You did an excellent job at playing. I'd love to see you play more of the 80's music, I grew up on, especially Loverboy, Foreigner, Whitesnake, Boston Cinderella, and the list goes on for me. I'm also a very big fan of Todd Sucherman, and watch him quite a bit.
@Jazzyboy 77 the real genius on the drums is Neil Peart, he could write lyrics and be the best drummer on earth. Todd Sucherman is not a bad drummer tho I respect him and I like his music and Styx
GEN X, 1965! You've been blessed with God given TALENT like Jeff Porcaro. It's not learned or repeated...it's GIFTED It's great to see the younger generations embrace PORCARO!
Jeff Porcaro was generally an underappreciated drummer, but not by other drummers and drum officionados. His work with Toto and in the studio with Steely Dan and others made him one of the truly great rock drummers of the 1970s and 1980s. You certainly did Jeff justice in this wonderful cover Avery! ROCK ON!!!
Does my heart good, to see someone in your generation playing and loving the songs from the 70's & 80's.. An awesome song, I too play the drums (retired now) You have so much talent, it is simply amazing to watch you play... Be Blessed and have a Merry Christmas to you & your family... Also a Merry Christmas to all those watching......
Certainly is one of the best songs ever created - and just great to seeing you playing it! A song that brings back so many memories of my younger days.
Your drumming, as always, is spot on. If this is the same Reflex kit you played until you were twelve and got the Dios kit; you are to be commended for the respect and care you give your instruments. They still look brand new! I remember both kits came with double bass and you used those cool drumlites with the Reflexes. The past several years you have moved to a more professional look with the blacked out walls and really effective lighting. There is no doubt you will be a professional musician. You can play with anyone already. Rock on.
Omg! Baker Street is 🔥!! You’re so right about tunes from the 70’s through the 80’s. Why can’t music sound like that anymore? Avery, cover Baker Street! Please!!
I was so stoked when I heard the beginning with just you drumming because I knew what was about to come. You delivered and then some. It's mind blowing watching you make that groove into your own. You're a prodigy. Thank you for sharing your gifted talent with us!
Great job Avery, Jeff Pocaro was a great and often under rated drummer. He was one of my favorites, his unique use of fills and shuffles. He has played on countless others records including Micheal Jackson’s beat it
Yes, definitely one of the best songs ever. I’ve been following your channel for years, and didn’t get into drumming until I was about 35 or 36 years old myself. Love watching your videos, keep up the great work man.
This kid can play with any one I've been watching him for 10 yrs hes a joy to watch I don't think isn't nothing he can't play he could play with any of those bands right now he's that good keep rockin buddy
Excellent! People don't realize how much footwork there is here. I play it but not this good, excellent job and it sounds beautiful, the audio is great. Beautiful job truly.
Toto-amazing group and you remastered it too perfection. Africa, Hold The Line, and others. Love the 80's and love this song. Keep up the great work Avery.
Then you're about my age (born October 1974). Do you remember Jeff Porcaro of Toto? He died in a fender-bender, minor car accident in 1988 or 89. The people from the other car jumped out to exchange information, and Jeff was dead in the driver's seat. He died of a cocaine overdose, ultimately, and that wreck pushed him up and over, evidently.
Nice! Neil Peart always said about Tom Sawyer, it doesn't sound like it, but it's really fast. Same with Africa, that high hat work was excellent, great technique. An capturing some Porcaro magic - priceless!
Your patience is excellent. Dynamic sensitivity exceptional. The development of the groove was mature. You, my friend are musical, and are going somewhere new and interesting... I'll be listening... Utah Kid.......
I've covered 'Africa' too. Maybe I'll do it in some years again just to see my progress. Avery, thank you very much for your great videos!!! They are always source of inspiration.
A SIMPLE BEAT, YET EASY TO HEAR A MISTAKE IF/WHEN ONE IS MADE - WHICH MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT AND STRESSFUL TO KEEP GOOD TIME UNTIL YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TO CHANGE UP. EXCELLENT JOB AVERY. i'M GONNA LISTEN TO IT AGAIN!
Wow! Fantastic song. Great job young man. I'm sure your going some where with your drumming. Reach for the stars. I'm glad I ran across this. I will be looking you up again that's for sure
Had to watch it three times those fills that you added in their sounds great I have a big screen TV in my living room hooked up to a 500 watt amp and sub and speakers it sounds great your drums Great Sound always
This is one of my favorite songs ever! As always, you play flawlessly. I have to say I am feeling old, because I have watched you since you were a tiny little boy! You are the most talented young drummer I have ever seen and I know you have a huge career in some lucky band coming your way!
I've been watching your evolution in each video since you were 6. I'm from across the ocean in a country you probably didn't even hear about, Romania. Keep up the great work, you are amazing and have a great future ahead. Hope to see you live one day!
Yes, this is a good song, and I actually saw TOTO on this tour (co-headlined with the Tubes). But the best song on TOTO 4 is "Afraid of Love", lead vocals by Steve Lukather. Now that song rocks!
Hi "A" brotherman!! Finally, our little "Rocker" has found that drumming is wayyyyy more then (even though, I love the acceptance of "the R-n-R devil horns"🤘🏼in music, my dear friend R.J. Dio certainly got some mileage out of them!!😁😆 R.I.P. my friend!!) more then the "dev-orns" being thrown up, sex and drugs!!! Congratulations my young drumming brother! Jeff would be not only proud, but honored as well!! Toto had their share of issues, not so much band, but production and management issues!! The brothers Porcaro were prolific writers and musicians, but if you want a record deal..., especially if you don't want to foot the bill upfront, and want the best of everything one can get when making that record... well, fighting is futile and lands ya right back where you just came from, the garage, or basement and back to slugging it out in the trenches of the music industry in the bars and Nightclubs... I shudder the thought!!! But rather than do that, the brothers just took the smart road, and waited until they had fulfilled their contract(s!) It certainly was not the worst thing to ever happen to them!! This entire album "TOTO IV" was on fire from the day it hit the record stores and the airwaves!! They were finally able to put down on tape what they loved doing, writing and playing!!! From 1982... (whew, long time ago!!) And right up until now, 2021, the music, the album, the musicianship is still pristine and absolutely standing the test of time!! Considering a young cat like Avery here is taking the time to learn and record, both audio and video of a song Like Africa, I love it... well done, YOU !!! One final technical note her brotherman Avery, take another listen to the mix, especially on a cellphone, or laptop!! And not through your DAW!! Just go to your RUclips channel and listen as if you were "average Joe listener!" It a decent mix, albeit the snare and hats are mixed a little too "mean and lean," as they stand out to far in the mix, especially the swish of the hats!!! I love the gated Verb on the snare, just back the level down! I would imagine that you may already know this, but Digital recordings are not warm past O dBv, in fact they are 100% distorted!!! I suspect that is the only real problem with the hats and snare. I mean it could be mic choice, I am looking at your setup, looks like Sennheiser's on the kit, the kit is mixed pretty well, and the overhead brass I cannot see, and the hats I can see, but I am not exactly sure what that mic is... I pretty intimately know just about every mic used in recording from the 1930's up to about 2005! Because in or around 2005, that is when everyone and their brothers were making mics, especially cheap mics, and moreover, cheap drum mics in copious numbers!!! But ultimately it is up to you, the quality of your studio work as an engineer, that is seen and heard globally can only be, first and foremost acceptable by you... sometimes we get very wrapped up in our work, and feel that it is good enough... Fatigued ears, using headphones and being a bit stubborn will only allow you to make so-so finished product, don't ve afraid to take advice from those who really know what they are talking about, it is only too help, and not to make fun of, or poke one in the eye!! Remember, shit in = Shit out!!! Your drumming is magnificent and will only get better, but currently you are bordering on upper level professional!!! Now, get to learn how to engineer the same, at that level!! Think globally... hint...🤔... it doesn't mean the world, or planet earth!!🤫 ANYWAY, KEEP ON KEEPING ON BROTHER DRUMMER AND ENGINEER!!!!!!! PEACE !!!!!!!🤘🏼
Absolutely a great job. I found your videos listening to or finding Christmas music this year. I have listen to every video you have on here. Fine job young man, I so hope you go far
Well done, as always. I like how you gave it your own ever so subtle spin, not a complete remake. I must say, I've never drummed before, but my wrists hurt just watching yours on that cymbal. LOLz! Excellent job!
Amazing as always! This took me back!! Being 61 years old I was a kid when the British Invasion hit in the mid 80's when MTV took off and we never looked back! This brought back so many memories. I would like to make a request, if I could and I understand if you ignore it. I'm sure you get an endless number of requests to do songs but in your search for material, perhaps you might come across an old 80's song that is one my my very favorites as I was growing up. It's the Simple Minds song "Don't you forget about me" and yes, it was used in "The Breakfast Club" movie but it was one of my favorites long before the movie came out. If you get board on Saturday afternoon with nothing to do... you get the idea. It's got a pretty good drum track. Think about it, won't you! Keep killing it, Avery! and, Marry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I wish nothing but success for you.
Avery, Another great drum cover, very well done. This is one of my favorites when it comes to 80’s music. The band director at your high school must hound you daily to join.
I would love to see some Cinderella also! Of course the others as well.
I’d like to see more RUSH
If you enjoy the 80's music, I tend to cover a lot of it, Douglas.
Todd is an absolute genius on the drums...I have been a fan for a long time...
@Jazzyboy 77 the real genius on the drums is Neil Peart, he could write lyrics and be the best drummer on earth.
Todd Sucherman is not a bad drummer tho I respect him and I like his music and Styx
3:06 this part is beautifully done 👍
Excellent job, only detail I think you’ve missed the China Cymbal which is present all along the song
GEN X, 1965! You've been blessed with God given TALENT like Jeff Porcaro.

Well done Avery this is one of those hit songs I never get tired of Jeff Porcaro is looking down from heaven and smiling
Certainly is one of the best songs ever created - and just great to seeing you playing it! A song that brings back so many memories of my younger days.

Is it the same reflex kit just without the .bc bass drum and 3rd mounted tom
@@themaskedmusician4510 yes
Late 70's thru the 80's produced so many great songs. This one along Baker Street from Gerry Rafferty are just like candy to the ears.
Great song. Well done Avery.
Hey buddy ,I would love to see you play hold the line. Thanks Dan
Great job Avery, Jeff Pocaro was a great and often under rated drummer. He was one of my favorites, his unique use of fills and shuffles. He has played on countless others records including Micheal Jackson’s beat it
All of Toto played on Michael Jackson's Thriller album, minus Bobby Kimball. I don't think he needed any high harmony.
I don’t know any music lover who under rates Jeff Porcaro.
Yes, definitely one of the best songs ever. I’ve been following your channel for years, and didn’t get into drumming until I was about 35 or 36 years old myself. Love watching your videos, keep up the great work man.
Certainly has to be in the top 10. Very smooth and soothing song! Great cover Avery!
Top 10? I challenge you to link one better "Africa" Drum Cover.
This kid can play with any one I've been watching him for
10 yrs hes a joy to watch I don't think isn't nothing he can't play he could play with any of those bands right now he's that good keep rockin buddy
Agreed, one of my most favorite songs of all time. Glad you made a cover of it.
Excellent! People don't realize how much footwork there is here. I play it but not this good, excellent job and it sounds beautiful, the audio is great. Beautiful job truly.
You make it look so effortless , the true sign of a professional !
Nice job with Toto!
It's crazy to think how many of us have been watching you for so long...and have watched you grow up. Well done, lad.
Toto-amazing group and you remastered it too perfection. Africa, Hold The Line, and others. Love the 80's and love this song. Keep up the great work Avery.
Fantastic work, great song ! You did it again 😎👍
Simple:
Awesome drummer
Awesome song
I was 10 when this came out. This took me right back to then. Nice job, dude!
Then you're about my age (born October 1974). Do you remember Jeff Porcaro of Toto? He died in a fender-bender, minor car accident in 1988 or 89.

Your patience is excellent. Dynamic sensitivity exceptional. The development of the groove was mature. You, my friend are musical, and are going somewhere new and interesting... I'll be listening...
Utah Kid.......
Great job! My son is playing drums and learning from your videos. Young people don't play 70's, 80's music much. Unfortunately....
Can't believe how fast you are growing up. This is truely a great song.
I hope you're having as much fun as it looks like you're having! Love it when you post.
Fantastic Avery! Love this song was 16 when this came out
Great times 🤟😁
Avery, you are very talented don't ever stop playing! Your future is bright!
I've covered 'Africa' too. Maybe I'll do it in some years again just to see my progress. Avery, thank you very much for your great videos!!! They are always source of inspiration.
Replacing the second snare drum with a high tom makes the beat sound really cool.
Avery is supper execellent.l love the songs . I'm always rewind to watch .his how to performing drumsticks.
Great job
Most excellent cover, Avery! Thank you for sharing!! 👍
The drum setup sounds nice 👍 the snare has some nice “reverb”
A SIMPLE BEAT, YET EASY TO HEAR A MISTAKE IF/WHEN ONE IS MADE - WHICH MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT AND STRESSFUL TO KEEP GOOD TIME UNTIL YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TO CHANGE UP. EXCELLENT JOB AVERY.

Sweet groove, style and you look comfortable behind your kit. Best of luck to you in all your future endeavors
Avery, I so enjoy watching you play your drums. I've everything about you from the beginning when you started out very young.
Absolutely perfect!! What else can I say?? Hope you and your family have a safe and healthy holiday season!! ✌🏻❤️😎🎄🎄
From one of the BEST drummers in the biz! Spotless cover, Avery! #RIPJeffPorcaro
Quel talent ce garçon depuis son jeune âge , je lui souhaite une bonne réussite pour l'avenir et c'est bien engagé
Any song he does makes the song better. Merry Christmas
Bueníssimo, lo agregué a mi Playlist pública. La canción completa suena muy bien, sería soñado para un concierto, me motivó suscribir, Congrats.
Yes, this is a good song, and I actually saw TOTO on this tour (co-headlined with the Tubes). But the best song on TOTO 4 is "Afraid of Love", lead vocals by Steve Lukather. Now that song rocks!
The tubes are still around. No way
You are not wrong when you say one of the best songs ever created. Absolute masterpiece. You nailed it kiddo.
Excellent job, and great to hear some Toto! 😊
Love this song. What a great job, Avery. Shine on.

Awesome. I always wished I knew how to do this when I was younger.
Now this is the way to start my Christmas break from job. This is all so a great way to just start the day off right. Marry Christmas Avery
Great choice and great job!!
Avery, Another great drum cover, very well done. This is one of my favorites when it comes to 80’s music. The band director at your high school must hound you daily to join.
Awesome! Toto’s Rosanna is a crazy drum cover.
I loved the cover, you gave the song the honor it deserved. Thanks
Awesome. Great control and discipline. I appreciate your range of covers and styles.
All right on my way home from work. Listening
One of my favorite songs.
Nice to see you again playing 😊
U have grown up to be such an accomplished musician. Awesome job
Amazing job
Keeping the hi hats going at that speed for the whole song is a challenge in itself :-)
