I don't like this interviewer, either. Marilyn was more complex than many men knew how to deal with. Too many tried to put her in her place, into a 1-dimensional role that would make them feel safer & in control. Treat her like a sex kitten, or like a child, or like a dumb blonde. But don't treat her w/respect or allow her too much power. She was so powerful in her beauty & sexuality that those around her couldn't deal w/her having anything other than that, including probs. Very sad.
Marilyn was so pretty. She smiled on set but was broken underneath. The Industry should have treated her better. It is crazy how she can smile on set and make everyone think she was okay but behind it the real person was dying a little everyday R.I.P. Marilyn
Wow, you can hear the difference in Marilyn's voice as she goes from sober to intoxicated... and more open answers. It's a CRYING SHAME they treated her so poorly, she was such so amazing - gorgeous, talented, and such a sad life. RIP Marilyn
she was beyond disrespected...her salary vs janes russell's/!!! should have at least been the same!!!! she was a smart women!!! sensitive talented being!!
I just adore the way she talks! So timeless--and not dumb AT ALL! I am glad people are now noticing the beautiful SOUL behind the lovely face and frame.
She had such a zest for life, there was something so hypnotizing about her that left people wanting for more, and to this day people still find her so interesting. She was misunderstood, sure she was promiscuous but she was damaged emotionally. As they saying goes, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" We love and miss you Norma Jean Baker.
When Marilyn announce her divorced with Joe she seemed really sad and i think is because Joe DiMaggio was the only man in her life that really cared about her and she really loved him but he didnt like the way her career was going he was super jealous and was trying to get her outta Hollywood
She reminds me of my grandmother.. just the way she speaks, her underestimated intelligence, and her classic, undeniable beauty. Marilyn Monroe.. so completely misunderstood and underrated in her time.. but what a wonderful woman.
"I hope we got something here?" Marilyn was a whole hell of a lot smarter than they gave her credit for. Her intuition and understanding of fame is poetic and lyrical. As a male of the species, I just want to swoop down and rescue her. Just incredible.
Beauty on earth personified. Kind, sensitive, gentle, but insecure. All she ever craved was love, support to overcome her own insecurities, and to show everyone her true talent as an artist. But nobody cared enough. Nobody took care of this precious lady. This has always saddened me. Everyone wanted to carve out their piece of the Marilyn Monroe sex goddess for themselves. Act in haste, repent at your leisure. God forgive mankind for what they did to you beautiful Norma. Rest in peace my angel.
Marilyn the last thing you said in this interview was "please don't make me look like a joke" well no one ever did you will never be a joke your an inspiration to women all around you are dearly missed. Even though your gone your legend lives on R.I.P Norma Jean -3
This interview was so good to hear and sad too. The reporter is obviously a jerk who's against her. Marilyn is a brilliant, talented woman who'll always be in our hearts. We'll love her forever. She's the greatest woman of the 20th century. R.I.P darling Marilyn xx
That last line just breaks my heart. And the sad sort of desperation in her laugh....she didnt just want love she wanted to be respected for who she was, not what she had. I wish she could have got what she needed.
Marilyn's IQ was 168 supposedly higher than Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. Her personal library contained over 400 books on topics ranging from art to history, psychology, philosophy, literature, religion, poetry, and gardening. Many of the volumes, auctioned in 1999, bore her pencil notations in the margins. Interestingly there are over 600 books written about her and that number is still growing.
Oh Norma jean baker tears in my eyes I love you and I am so sorry the men in your life hurt you you did not deserve it but if I would have met you I would have cautioned you to stay away from Hollywood you should have been what you wanted to be a teacher with a husband and children I wish I could have helped you and been your friend and also I'm sorry so many claim they love you when they don't they love the idea of you and marylin Monroe was not who you were you were so misunderstood and used I wish most of all I could have protected you from all the pain you went through I hold on to one good note Norma wherever you are remember john Kennedy is in hell for what he did to you we all know what we did and we know the truth he can't and they can't hide it anymore he was a murderer and we will always treat him as such have peace in your afterlife dear sweet norms jean I don't know what your future holds or if you'll be reincarnated but I hope that now you are in a better place and I hope that you know we will protect your memory against all those who think I'll of you norms we surround you with love and protection rip bright angel
U r an ignorant fool who knows nothing of pain and suffering she was an angel who is in heaven and thank god john Kennedy and bobby Kennedy got what was coming to them and are burning in hell as we speak and good riddens
I think it was awesome when the clip showed her outburst about "cranking up for acting roles" because we get a glimpse into how she must have been feeling at the time. All the other clips and memiors show a happy smiling Mariyln but never one with any other emotion then her "happy face." this was awesome we see her defensive here and a look into what she was really going through.
This beautiful, intelligent woman comes across to me as a victim of work place bullying and chronic depression. I wish she could of just walked away and started her quiet life without all the crap.Poor girl.
God Bless Miss.Marilyn Monroe. A woman who never really got a chance to be really happy, yet made millions of people happy! Do take care of her! She has been hurt too many times in her life, let her rest in peace.
I don't understand how someone could kill a woman so sweet. she was so beautiful inside and out. It's like killing bamby. I get teary eyed thinking of her last hours.
She asked one thing of him. To not make her a joke, yet he still disrespected her. What a jerk! I just recently finished her Bio my story. A great read for her fans.
And regarding her being late...she was absolutely tight to not set foot on set until SHE was ready. Thanks to her doing that we got her best work. As director Billy WIlder said " I would rather have Marilyn late on set than any other actress on time". Damn right.
I think he should have sensed she needed support but he was just another cheap journalist without feeling or character. A curse for eternity on all those who betrayed her!
After watching these I suddenly realized that poor Norma Jean was truly mentally ill. Possibly bi-polar or slightly shizonphrenic--she sounds absolutely like someone who in this day and age would be in therapy and probably on medication. It is unfortunate that people interpreted her behavior in the lens of normal behavior because it is painfully obvious that her personality was splintered. She needed what we can offer now--genuine therapy and medication.
This does not sound like someone who would take her own life a few weeks later. She is easy to laugh and is concerned with the how the interview would come out. Sure she was defensive about how she had been treated by Hollywood but she had every right to be. She sounds in sync with her reality, had rationalized it, and had come to terms with it.
Elvis Presley also was a genius in more than music. He too read deeper subject books such as philosophy and Eastern religion. He made nites in the books he studied. He carried a traveling bookcase with him when he toured. He had a photographic memory and had the entire Bible memorized. He knew Shakespeare's plays verbatim. For his movies, he knew his role and everyone else's roles, learning the whole script in twenty minutes. He possessessed a very quick wit and a great sense of humor. Most people do not know how intelligent he was.
Thus we see that intelligence is not a precursor to neither peace of mind, emotional stability, integrity, nor happiness...... Its crazy that somebody so loved could be so insecure and miserable
The hollywood scene can do anyones head in, It's a shame that Marilyn didn't have any real family to look out for her. She needed people on her side. It may seem strange but she reminds of Britney Spears when she was going through her breakdown. But the difference was Britney had her parents to step in and help her.
The only mistake Norma made was getting involved with the Kennedy's. She loved Bobby Kennedy, thought she would marry him, and become first lady when Jack moved over for Bobby. She was also noting down pillow talk. When she threatened to spill the beans on the Kennedy's because Bobby had told her that that was not going to happen, they had her taken care of. This is fundamentally it. She was murdered. No wonder the Kennedy's are cursed. What a waste of a beautiful human being. So very very sad.
I was only 2-3, my dad’s engineering colleague, brought his daughter over to our home, I saw my first cute, blue-eyed blonde, left an indelible impression on me. Pretty blondes always leave me with a twisted neck. Marilyn Monroe was my mental view of a grail woman. Never changed, still love blondes, but I realize it’s an endless chase that’ll never end.
It’s sad that people only live once and never seen again Marilyn would’ve have been a wonderful woman to meet but people back then kept getting in her way and not treating her respectfully
I'm crying my eyes out and I don't even know this remarkable creature. If I did know her, I'd probably wouldn't be able to say two words to her. I just wish she could have had a better life.
I don't crank anyting you know I'm not a Model T I don't crank....... we are not machines no matter how much they want to think we are we are not..... Marilyn simply wanted to be acknowledged as human not a money making machine.🕊
if only she would live enough to be a happy old woman, jesus the sad look on her face is so depressing, she suffered so much and we cant do anything because she is gone....i hope she is better now....
Thank you for that, you seem knowledgeable about her life. Was RFK seen at her residence on the day she died? So many have said so. I do believe there was a lot of coverup surrounding her death. She most assuredly did not commit suicide.
The interviewer is Richard Meryman and what an honor it must have been to be there in the first place to see her and take this unknowing that she would die a short time later..so sad.
How she grew up probably made it hard to trust people, too bad she kept out too few of the right ones. This interview was great at showing how complex and troubled she was.
The very end made my eyes tear up. "Please don't make me look like joke" How sad to have to ask an interviewer that. At 1:12 we get a glimpse into Marilyn's vulnerablility and character. She automatically gave the public everything they wanted to hear despite her doubt about children. All anyone wanted to hear was witty dumb blonde remarks from her; she was never allowed to stop acting even off the set.
I love Marilyn so much - she was beautiful inside and out, and very intelligent too - she was obviously used to much and was very emotional - which makes her all the more lovely. I hate that Tony Curtis tries to say he had an affair with her now, when obviously he didn't, I really don't like the way the interviewer speaks about her, and I'm glad she gets angry also - it's so sad when she says "Please don't make me look like a joke" I don't think she was paranoid. She should have got twice JR got!
@alexandraphipps so true! The one thing that annoys me about this whole interview is when the interviewer said she was trying to play victim. That's very ignorant and arrogant of him. Marilyn Monroe was not a damn robot.
what did the reporter mean whe he talked about "cranking herself up" why was she so mad about it... sorry if its a stupid question but please tell me...
That isn't the end of the interview/documentary. Not sure if the person posting this cut it off there intentionally. In the full documentary the narrator continues after that line. They also show her funeral. There are other complete versions posted on youtube.
I'm puzzled...if she hated being objectified, then why did she invest so much time and energy into portraying herself as a 'blonde bombshell' (as they used to call them)?
Woman like MM & Judy Garland were treated like commodities, MM for her body and beauty and Judy Garland for her amazing voice and the way she had with a song. The Men in Hollywood were sharks & they smelled blood in the water & devoured Women who were vulnerable in Hollywood who were the most famous & bread winners in their relationships. People think that is an invitiation to help themselves to these women. That's the reason they are no longer with us & died so young. PPL can only take so much.
i love how laid back and imperfect (in a good way) she is in this interview. i cant help but see the same sadness in the eyes of britney spears. they are nothing a like but at the same time a lot a like. im glad this interview is still around. not a lot of people know marilyn as a human being.
It's creepy how much her and miss Britney spears look a like her(Marilyn). Britney and Marilyn are from 2 different eras but the both embody sex appeal but hidden underneath vulnerability and those doe eyes.
Beauty not means only anatomy.Women you are talking about are only face and body,no charisma,no grace....Marilyn had all:charisma,grace,sex-apeal,humour,innocence,she knew how to move,to dance. She had that sparkling in her eyes and her voice is lovely. She was ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! She was smart too.
I have to agree with MM here--that "cranking yourself up to do a scene" remark/question was thoughtless at best. I mean, if he'd bothered to educate himself at all about her, maybe read a previous interview or two he'd have been be more sensitive in phrasing his question(it's supposed to be he ART of interviewing!). I don't blame her a bit for being bugged. Good for her! Marilyn was an extremely bright woman, whether drunk or sober.
@cyberlioness I apologize for repeating myself but it's documented she did suffer from manic depression or bipolar as we know it today...There's a series on here I think it's called The Final Days of Marilyn Monroe...where directors, fellow actors...all knew of her mental illness. During the filming of Something's Got to Give her psychotherapist had to accompany her when she went. I never thought it was such a strange idea that she would take her own life...impulsivity is common during mania
Not saying she was stupid. And reading books doesnt give you a better IQ either. Intelligence is separate from knowledge. But irrelevant of what problems she had and what the cause was, all i was saying was that she was emotionally unstable. Just pointing out that she wasn't all smart and pretty and perfect. She did have a huge global impact and she was very impressive. Just not perfect. That's all, man. Never said she was stupid. I like her too. That's why i came to this video. :)
It sounds like they’re talking from the freaking space station
Ikr🤣😂🤣
😂😂
Bro😂🤣
Haaa you made my day ☺
The tapes are old but also likely copies of copies for this documentary! Would be great to hear a clean version!
"Please don't make me look like a joke" -Marilyn Monroe last words.
If she could see the icon she has become.
You're not a joke, Marilyn and you never were.
She was so fragile. Requires certain kind of person to deal with a personality like Marilyn Monroe.
I don't like this interviewer, either. Marilyn was more complex than many men knew how to deal with. Too many tried to put her in her place, into a 1-dimensional role that would make them feel safer & in control. Treat her like a sex kitten, or like a child, or like a dumb blonde. she was in a ring where the contender was money; we know wins
I deal with these same issues. A very accurate description of how she felt and I bet this is how most women feel.
Marilyn was so pretty. She smiled on set but was broken underneath. The Industry should have treated her better. It is crazy how she can smile on set and make everyone think she was okay but behind it the real person was dying a little everyday
R.I.P. Marilyn
Vicky Coldronatiee, Victim, victim, victim! Smh
Best comment ever to summarize what happened to Marilyn.. 😰
Why do i keep hearing my name ;-;
Она - с детства улыбчива и светла. Хмурить брови просто не умеет
I wish she could see how loved she is now
Wow, you can hear the difference in Marilyn's voice as she goes from sober to intoxicated... and more open answers. It's a CRYING SHAME they treated her so poorly, she was such so amazing - gorgeous, talented, and such a sad life. RIP Marilyn

Her smile is absolutely stunning
She has such a beautiful smile!
Some good insights always helps bring some good light. Thanks for the treasured compilation.
2:08 "I guess I still don't know what I am"...makes me sad.
It's so heart breaking to see her cry , oh god😳💜

RIP, Marilyn. 49 years today. 6/1/1926-8/5/1962. i'm only 30, but i respect human life that's passed on.
I Just love her!!
That was Beautifully said. I couldn't agree more and was thinking the same when listening to how fragile she sounded.... such a gentle woman.
my queen, i'd bow down to her
I miss u marilyn... i really do... and i really wish that you are finally content and happy!. Take care love! 3
RIP My sweet Norma Jeane

That was the thing she said that made me very sad...
I think he should have sensed she needed support but he was just another cheap journalist without feeling or character. A curse for eternity on all those who betrayed her!
Please take that back. We all deserve redemption.
God bless!!!!
I just how she tapped the microphone on stage:)
This does not sound like someone who would take her own life a few weeks later. She is easy to laugh and is concerned with the how the interview would come out. Exactly... people need to hear that sometimes
Champagne 🍾 and pills 💊 are a bad mix sometimes

What happened at 3:11? Did she throw up or something?
She was pregnant there, I think some kind of morning sickness, when the movie finished shortly after she lost the baby

MM will always b one of a kind!
she was such a beautiful woman, wow very unique!
Quotes like this when she talks about suicide and her talking about growing old prove to me that she didnt kill herself.
