It’s amazing. We’ve never had so many tools to accomplish so much. Thank you for taking the time to put all of this together. I definitely do the sketching while researching thing. I love that part of the process. It’s discovering the visual storytelling of a property or historical time and place.

How is it that this video has only 47 likes? 48 now...

Thank you so much for posting this video! It feels like a masterclass in Themed Entertainment Design, and is the exact kind of resource I've been searching for. Like you mentioned, the books only go so far, and still maintain the mysticism.
I've also been following your blog, and have recently picked up a VR headset to start designing my own environments and attractions. I've found that Gravity Sketch on Oculus is a fantastic resource for 3D modeling and "Sketching" and even for producing finished products. Personally, I find that my brain works better in 3D than in 2D when it comes to designing because most of my experience lies in prop and costume fabrication and miniature building and painting. That being said, I can certainly see a lot of value in 2D sketching and drawing. It's a skill I would like to have myself, but is hard for me to learn and develop, especially because I find that my desires and passions are a powerful motivator that are often stopped by the equally powerful desire to be "perfect" and fear of failure. Do you have any advice for overcoming fears of failure when it comes to learning a new skill?

Mitchell, my brain works better in VR as well. It offers me the chance to build "inside" my own head. Best of all I can invite people in there with me!

I was very happy to hear you reference Ed "enfilm". He has assisted me numerous times over many years, and is a very generous person. Cheers to you both!

He is a life saver! I don't know if he knows how many industry folks rely on his work.

5:25 - Spot on advice! I’ve seen the same props, references, and people show up in photoshop key art a bunch of times 😂

I know, I feel a little guilty when I grab something from the first page of a Google search.

What degree is best for theme park design?

There are schools that offer degrees in Themed Entertainment Design, SCAD and Ringling. My background is illustration so communicating your idea in drawings is important even if you aren't near a school that specializes in TED.

Encountered a lot of stuttering that hasn’t happened in any of your other videos. Watching the timeline there isn’t any pausing which might indicate a connection issue on my end. The video pauses but the seconds keep advancing. No one else seems to have mentioned it and probably not worth the effort to upload again to try and address it.
