    I just got a 143w2. It was sewing great until I when with heavier thread. Can't seem to get the tension right. Love this thing I'll figure it out.

      Thank you. I still had problems with this machine. It was missing a set screw in the hook gear which would cause it to go out of time. I replaced the special Singer screw and finally got it sewing perfectly.

    Hello! Thanks for the video. Yes, the thread belt should be dry and clean, then it will work correctly. From the VD-40, it could simply be washed. Can you give a link to the place where you bought a new gear belt?

    silicone spray good for belt ,apparently. i dont know what this thing about wd40 is, it doesnt lube, its only for dismantling. anyway interesting to see you resolve the snags. still not sure how you fixed the chafing thread. i didnt know about checking for grooves in the wire bit.. thanks

    Hi! I have this machine and my husband pulled the shaft by the hand wheel out by unscrewing it. Now, I can't get it to go back in. Do you know how I can fix this?

      Yes but do not use a hammer!!!! Check the threads of the shaft for damage. Many of these machines have been abused and the screw threads are chipped. I have another video on that. Also the adjuster screws in counter clockwise. It likes oil to be sprayed inside the shaft and if that doesn't help then the stitch length adjuster has to be loosened. That adjustment is on the top under the cover. There will be a spring loaded eccentric that rotates with the shaft. On it are 2 screws 180 degrees apart. One has a smaller head then the other. The smaller head screw is the adjuster. The larger head has a powerful spring underneath. Leave that one alone. Take the smaller one out and there will be another screw under that one that you unscrew a few turns. The shaft should go in then. Once in, set the stitch length to 8 and using the needle poking holes in paper adjust the set screw until you get 8 holes per inch. Put the second set screw back in (it locks the inner on in place). And good luck. They're not that difficult.

      @@carlmauro4813 Sorry, after taking a closer look I just noticed that it's the little screws thing at the very end that adjust the stitch length. I don't know how to put that back into place.

    How can I lengthen the stitch more it reaches 8 and it lacquers I cannot go to 4 or 5

    • @carlmauro4813
      @carlmauro4813  3 года назад

      Looking in the top you'll see the eccentric that moves the dogs. On it are 2 screws, one is larger than the other and they are 180 deg apart. Don't touch the larger one because there is a spring under it. The smaller one is a set screw and under that is the adjustment screw. They are stacked one upon the other. Take the first one out. Adjust the one underneath. Set your stitch length to 8. Then adjust the adjustment screw in or out a little at a time while sewing thin cardboard and while turning by hand. When you measure 8 stitch holes by ruler (to match the indicator) then put the set screw back in. And that should be that. That machine should make 6 spi. Maybe I'll do a video.

      @@carlmauro4813 I would appreciate if you made a video I could not lengthen the stitch and I did not want to damage it I would like to be able to see how you do it

    Carl. Does your zigzag dial have a hard stop when turning clockwise? Mine seems to hit a point and feels like it starts to unscrew

    • @carlmauro4813
      @carlmauro4813  3 года назад

      Turning clockwise you should be able to remove the dial and pin. Sometimes the threads are damaged. I have 6 machines with that style of adjuster. 3 have busted up threads. I managed to get them to work anyway. I have a vid on that.

    Bought one of these in 1969, and used it sewing sails with a clutch, second generation here was thinking about converting to servo. Cool video. Also need some various 107 parts. Any places selling parts?

      Yes Ron Blake. Find him on Facebook in Vintage Industrial Sewing Machine Group. You still have your 107w from 1969? It was old then!

      Ha! Yes, still have it. My Dad bought it, and we’ve used it over the years patching sails, dodgers, covers, converting hank sails to roller furling, making bosun seats, etc. Cool machine, thanks for the info., Good luck!!
