    The Griffey’s at Bear and Son have found a way to keep the manufacturing of affordable knives right here in the United States. I have several Bear and Son knives and each offer good craftsmanship, excellent functionality, and a reasonable price. I haven’t been disappointed with the purchase of any of the Bear and Son products. Lately, I’ve been hearing more and more about this made in the USA company actually manufacturing knives for other knife companies.

    Great company. Would love one of their automatics, but don’t wanna get busted carrying one in MN. I’ll have to settle for the spring assisted. Always looking for good made in the USA products!

    These are also really well priced considering they’re made in the USA.

      Yeah they do, including on their knife sharpening kits to. Was looking on Amazon and eBay for a stone, and all they had was garbage Chinese made synthetics. So I started searching around, and found some on their site that are the Arkansas natural stone and we're actually less than the Chinese disposables

    Sadly I've had three Bear and Son knives. Their QC is poor. They are also crooked. They sell a Rancor folder Bear Ops in S30V except it is NOT S30V! Luv Them Knives tested their steel and it came back as 8Cr13 with .15% vanadium, but S30V has 4.00% vanadium. That was 2 years ago, I bought one this year and it is not S30V and is way too soft. I sent it to a heat treating company and paid them $25 to test it and it is still 8Cr13 Chinese steel.

    When he mentioned buying some of the old camillus tooling it made me wonder if Bear & Son makes a TL29 style electricians knife with a spear point blade. I would definitely be interested in one especially if the blade steel was 1095 or O1.

    I enjoy all episodes but me personally really enjoyed this one .i saw the cowhand with damascus blade in the fall catalog. I think ill order this one instead since its about 30 dollars cheaper. Great informative show

    I do like the shape of the handle on the sharpening stones positive grip.

  • @Lex5576

    I wish I could find a Cowhand with India Stag handles and a 1095 blade. They make plenty of India Stag Cowhands with 440 blades, but not carbon. These Bear knives have some issues with QC, usually it's space between the liners. But that's only cosmetic on a knife with plenty of character. These are tough built knives that sometimes take time to break in.

    i keep my edge 23 degrees that's about half of 45 and it only rides up about halfway on the secondary bevel . what leather and cream do you strop with. does the sharpening kit come with a strop

    Did Bear knives get the s30v steel issue worked out in the Rancor 2 flipper

    I had to send a knife back to bear and sons to get fixed it took them 1 month to send the knife back the same way i sent it to them. I called them to find out why and got a horrible attitude about the whole situation. Ive never baught another bear and son knife again. So caution when thinking about getting one

      Yeah a ton of qc issues. Alot of knife guys that know their stuff stay away.

      @amandabingaman9520 3 года назад +1

      The big issue seems to be the steel is different from what was advertised. I just ordered a Rancor 2 flipper with G10 handles with s30v steel and I'm going to send it out to be tested I will let you know. I hope that it is right

      I have a friend who lives in Jacksonville, AL and gifted me a Bear knife. Total junk. Worst POS ever. The embarrassing part of Bear knife are the words, "made in usa."

    • @xjimmontg9241
      @xjimmontg9241 2 года назад +1

      @@independent2368 I did, its analysis is 8Cr13 with .15% vanadium. S30V has 4.00% vanadium. It is a cheap Chinese steel.

    These guys have the best deals on American made sharpening supplies and cary genuine Arkansas stone that was quarried at the quachita mountains in Arkansas. I haven't personally used it before, but ordered some things last week and have heard that they make the best stones. I bought a kit that has a course & fine block on each side of a stand with a base and was under $20 after shipping. Which is a bargain because I couldn't find anything nearly as nice on Amazon or ebay and was all Chinese junk anyway. It was even less in many cases and have some of the best prices I've seen anywhere, plus it feels good when you can support American businesses first and foremost 🇺🇸

    It erks me when people say it's HARDER to sharpen... no steel is HARDER to sharpen... it's all exactly same to sharpen other then how long it takes to sharpen. 440c sharpens exactly the same as Rex121 the only difference is how long it will take you to remove the steel needed to apex the edge. Another thing that's bullshit, aluminum oxide will cut up to 66.5to 67.5hrc just fine... I have sharpened Rex121 at 67hrc with aluminum oxide but it took forever, if your at 66hrc or less aluminum oxide is no problem at all. I tried some Rex121 at 70.hrc and ruby stones cut it but not very quickly, my Bonded diamond Venev stones cut it just fine. I hate hearing the misinformation BS about sharpening.

    I'm not sure about that sharpener. Those angle holes are nothing more than a loose reference. Yall should do a more in depth review of that sharpener and go through all the steps. Give Swaggs a budget knife and let her learn how to sharpen.

    these all seem overpriced in today's market, and what about the steel testing that their knives continually fail?

  • @framusburns-hagstromiii808

    Every Bear and Sons knife i have came with flaws in materials, poor fit and finish downright sloppy in some cases and copious dirt and grit inside. QC is either completely incompetent or non-existent. I would advise to only buy where you can visually inspect the knife in question, otherwise its a crap-shoot and the odds are good the goods will be odd. Wish they would step up their game.
