  • Ocam rails and rack installed on a Pajero NT 2010 model. the roof rails have corroded badly and the rack has too. the welding on mesh to the rack has come away at a few spots due to vibration. the powder coat on the rack has faded and is peeling off. the rails have completely corroded everywhere the powder coat has come off to a point that the roof of the car has rust stains and in some places has eaten through the paint.

Same problem on mine mate, did the best I could to treat mine about 6 months ago but it's starting to bubble up again. Just wondering what you ended up doing about it?

Unfortunately there aren't others here in Australia only rino or ocam. I ended up making my own out of stainless steel. I followed an existing design and it works fine without the rust issue. I also changed the rack for a rola 1800 x 1200 anodized aluminum rack. Overall cost for the stainless steel trails and rola rack was just under $1000. 00 Australian.

Hi Steve, I am thinking of getting a good roofrack for my Fortuner. What are the good brands?

The best quality rack but expensive is the Front Runner a South African brand. Value for money and still very good quality is Rola they are sold in Australia by super cheap autos and come in various sizes. The roof rail system will depend on what is fitted to the Fortuna. Rola is about half price of the front runner. Check out Rola at www.rola.com.au
      Hope this helps.

Apart from that, how was it for noise, and was it sturdy?

A little noisy and quite sturdy. I eventually had a stress fracture in the mesh from where the awning bracket was mounted but this was just typical of aluminium. Aluminium work hardens over time making it brittle.
