But Michael and the other man must have been in that building for a while because it was pitch black outside when they climbed the fence and it was daylight when they exited the building.
It was pitch black outside when KITT passed through the gate as well.

KITT was supposed to have a jet engine, at least they took the inspiration from the GM Firebird, which was a turbine engine equipped concept car.
