      @@samright4661 Yeah. No disrespect to italy, but I must agree with @josh-xu1kr here. Most of Italy's cities are overrated. The average german city is nicer. Look at Frankfurt, look it Cologne. And I like Italy. My favourite Italian city would be Turin. But generally, German cities for example are more unique in my opinion.

    Good comment about showing up early for the Uffizi. We were there when the doors opened and walked right in. Plus, I have one of my best photos looking down the length of the Lungarno degli Acciaiuoli (3:39) without a single person in the the entire colonnade. Just my family at the very end. Hard to imagine with the crowds that are there just a little later in the day.

    17:45 the sound of Giotto's Belltower is just magical. When I first arrived in Florence I walked up a hill behind my hotel and was delighted to get a relatively good view of the city. The Duomo was probably at least 3 kilometers away, but at that moment the bell rang and even on that hill it was so loud as with other churches when you stand only a street or so away.

    I feel like Florence lacks at least one major thing - trees & greenery! NYC is considered a concrete jungle, but still has some trees along the streets - I think Florence is more suitable to be called a concrete jungle (even though I don't like NYC). I think London might be the best for tree canopy. I can't imagine walking in Florence at 35 C without trees - the streets are small, and it's hard to put trees there - I understand, but where it's spacious, they could at least plant something. Trees give so many opportunities I don't even want to mention, since everybody knows them. Florence is beautiful but planned poorly, probably because it's an old city. Sry for roasting, I'm an urban planner

    • @ProWalks
      @ProWalks  Год назад +1

      This is true...but not nearly as bad as Milan. Milan was concrete in every direction and no trees. Florence at least has trees on the outskirts.

    • @DashaMorozova2002
      @DashaMorozova2002 Год назад +1

      Well, yes, Milan is not he best either, but since it's bigger, I feel like at least some wide streets have trees. Florence is smaller, but it's easier to get to the suburban areas for some nature. But it's you opinion and I respect it & agree with it. Btw, I forgot to mention your videos are great! Keep going! I can't imagine how many steps you take for these vids lol@@ProWalks

    • @kathydent2116
      @kathydent2116 Год назад +1

      The buildings are so close that there's plenty of shade in the narrow streets. A lot of the churches have cloisters with gardens. A lot of the old palaces are built around a quadrangle and have gardens at their centres. You can walk across the city from olive groves in the north (on the way to Fiesole) to olive groves in the south (towards Bellosguado) in about 45 minutes . This is a video that goes round and round the medieval centre ONLY. It gives no impression of green spaces because that's not why people want to go to Florence. Nobody would have been interested in your version of 'urban planning' in the 13th century. Towns were compact for defensive reasons. Watch the ProWalks Siena tour and you will see how the countryside flows right up to the city walls everywhere you look. The reason why Italy is so beautiful is that urban planners have not been allowed to tear it down.

    There is a very small shop near the Arno River and Ponte Vecchio (side street) owned and run by an older man who sells mortar and pestles, wine, and miscellany. The front of his shop is kind of a jumbled mess. His shop was there in 2014 and 2016 for sure and had been there for many years before that. He offers small glasses of wine when you come in, and there's really only room for 1-2 customers at a time. I'm curious if he and his shop made it through the pandemic?? (I hope. I've worried about him.)
