    My wife and I went to Fort Fisher for the first time in July 2021. We took her Jeep Renegade (2" lift with Toyo A/T tires). It was her first time driving on the sand. She and her yellow Renegade, Big Bird did great. The only issue is no bathrooms. But you can just jump back in your vehicle and drive to the outpost. (Kerr Beach) We used to pay from $20-$30 parking at Carolina beach for parking so $30 Week days $35 Week ends to drive on the beach is awesome in my book. You can leave and come back unlike the pay for parking beaches. We live in the Clayton area so this is a great day trip. Just wish you could do summer camping here.

    Probably headed to live in Raleigh. Good to see what the beach life is like out there. I guess NC has the best of both worlds with the mountains on the other side. I wouldn’t know how to make up my mind of which side I’d want to spend time on!!

      We do, and that's why I love it. Both mountains and the beach, and plenty of offroad on either side to explore. Good luck with your move and I hope you enjoy it here!

      So how are you liking it? Thinking about moving to North Carolina from Colorado

      Mark Dieffenbach I’m still in Oklahoma but I’m still planning on making Raleigh the move. I have some coworkers out there and I need to make a visit but it’s seemingly relative as far as cost of living and such compared to Oklahoma... but a little more green, more mountains, more beach haha. Just sitting back and watching the news out there it looks rough but same could be said of Tulsa where I am right now and it’s not that bad at all. Hard to trust the news. I try to find people on RUclips that actually live there to get a better opinion

      @@JudgeDredd_ I live in a rural area about 30~45min NW of Charlotte proper. If I didn't watch the news, I wouldn't think anything was going on with social unrest, or even the virus. Well, ok, shopping at Walmart is different.

    Thanks for the video! I have a Chevy AstroVan with AWD, New Goodyear All Terrain Baja Champion Knobby Tires and a 3" Lift Kit. The Van is heavy, as it is a modified camper. Any guess how it will do on this beach? Thanks! And where are the other beaches that allow driving that you said are hard packed. I know about Freeman but not any others. Appreciate it!

    Thanks for the video, have you ever had an issue getting stuck? I just got a 2005 land cruiser but is 100% stock. I would think it would be fine but thought I’d check what your experience has been. Thanks.

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  5 лет назад +1

      Mine still has a stock suspension and stock differentials and I have never gotten stuck. In fact after a lot of great experiences with it, I typically just leave my truck in high gearing and AWD with the center differential open. I generally air down to about 20 psi all around and the truck handles everything great. A 2005 should have traction control and the option for running with the center differential open. Then if you have problems you can always air down more, lock the center diff, and/or switch to low gearing. One thing I would recommend are maxtrax. The only time I've had a friend get stuck in the sand they had gone down a bank and were wanting to back their way back up, and it was too steep. A friend first tried pulling him up without much luck, but the maxtrax very quickly got him up the bank.

    • @leenestle
      @leenestle 5 лет назад

      Great, thanks. Yes have a center diff that I can engage. I am looking at the maxtrax or similar. Your videos are super helpful and giving me lots of ideas on where to explore in NC.

      Just did fort fisher today, 20 psi with locked center diff did the trick. Didn’t have any issues at all. Biggest hassle was the 30 minutes it took me to air back up in the parking lot.

    Do they allow alcohol on the beach?
    I'm assuming no bonfires but I'm sure small grills are allowed.

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  5 лет назад +3

      Alcohol is not allowed, as with any state park. And that's correct, no bonfires but I imagine you are right about a fire in a grill.

    Is camping allowed on the beach?

    • @SDM502INF
      @SDM502INF 5 лет назад

      The beach access is open at 8 AM and closed at 7PM every day during the summer. Camping on the beach is prohibited. However, there are a couple of campsites in the area if you want to camp overnight and then spend the day on the beach.

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  5 лет назад +2

      What he said is true, but this time of year and for the whole winter access is actually 24 hours. They still say no camping, but you can stay overnight on the beach. I'm not sure how you want to interpret that... if you are fishing all night but have a tent set up and catch a few hours of sleep from 12-6 then is that okay? I think they would say it is.

    How far did you air down?

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  5 лет назад +1

      You know, usually I always air down, but this time I didn't. There isn't a great place to air back up as you are getting off the beach, and I don't have a compressor yet. I get nervous about driving on the road afterward with low air. Normally on the beach I air down to 18-20 psi.
