    What I love about the Splugenpass is that it goes accross the italian border (south) from the swiss border (north). As soon as you cross the mountain, you get greeted by a mediterranean environment and culture, aside from mountainnuous environment and culture. This really shows how these mountains have divided cultures for centuries..

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  2 года назад

      Indeed - you see this everywhere in Europe- just cross some arbitrarily created border and you can experience a different culture 😉

    It was a memorable 10 days riding our BMW 1250 RT, what a great bike for these roads, very different to our Honda

      @@MotoVibes Ha! The ONLY speeding ticket (or moving violation) I've EVER gotten in 53 years of driving was in Switzerland. Damn Autobahn speed cameras. Went from "Unbegrenzt" to a 120 zone so fast that I should have hit the brakes. But that would have been dumb, given the open road and speed of traffic. Coasting meant I was too far over the new limit, thus the ticket. So the supposed "safe" choice was hitting the brakes and endangering others. Lame.

Albulapass und Furkapass bin ich ebenfalls gefahren - es ist ja in der Schweiz recht schwer sich für genau 10 zu entscheiden - am Ende macht es auch die Abwechslung, die es interessant macht in den Alpen Motorrad zu fahren. Die Route des Grandes Alps ist für mich ebenfalls ein absolutes Highlights - falls ich dazu komme eine TOP 10 der fränzösischen Pässe zu machen wirst Du einige der Pässe der Route des Grandes Alps wieder finden ;-) - Grüße nach Polen!

    @Motovibes.. what route would you recommend for 4 days starting from Zurich ?
    I am short on time and finding options on how much of Swiss alps I can cover in 4 days

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  2 года назад

      Oh - 4 days I would either go East towards the Dolomites and cover some Swiss passes on the way and back or go southwest towards the West Alps (Route des Grandes Alps). How far you get depends on the km you want ot ride in a day. You could just stay in Switzerland and discovery the smaller roads too. For tour ideas check motovibes-4.creator-spring.com/digital

      Thank you very much- I hope you will get the chance to ride in the Alps. If you cannot bring your own bike that definitely adds costs to the trip plus the flight. There are many places outside of Europe I would be interested in seeing but it’s hard to justify the costs - thanks for watching 😉

      Thank you very much- glad you like the content 😉 as for the time to travel to the French Alps - you can go in early May but some of the highest passes may still be closed - some do not open until the end of May /beginning of June. There is still much to see but if you really want to ride the highest passes beginning of June would be a safer bet. You can check local websites for status on the passes - some give a prediction when they open others will only tell you if they are closed or open. Enjoy your trip 😎👍

    How would someone go about taking a motorcycle to Swiss Alps from the US?

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  Год назад

      Cheapest but also longest way is to ship it by boat through a carrier that is specialized for this kind of transport- this will likely be several thousand US dollars each way. This may only make sense for a very long trip of several months. For a few weeks renting a bike may not only be easier but also a lot cheaper in the end. I rented a bike from this place motorradvermietung-hamburg.de/ - Stephan - the owner just expanded his fleet and offers a rental hub in Munich - it’s a quick ride to the Swiss Alps from Munich and there are plenty of flights to Munich from the US

      @@MotoVibes do you find the filters make much difference or improve the footage considerably?

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  Год назад

      @@markworthington1710 Yes, especially while riding on the motorcycle and also for the drone when there are moving subjects in the frame. The action cameras and the drone have a really high shutter speed even during normal light but especially during sunny days. The ND filters help to reduce the shutter speed and give the videos a more natural look as faster moving subject (or the scenery or background) get a bit of motion blur

      @@MotoVibes I think you'll find they are more than a a little out! For example, at 2:09, you have Saint Gotthard Pass as being (and I quote) 2.091 m! Is that metres or miles? Either way, it's out by a HUGE magnitude!

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  Год назад

      @@Jer0867 i put the link in the description for every source for the height. Other sources confirm the height of 2107 meters above sea level incl Wikipedia- how to you get that this off by magnitudes?!

      @Jer0867 Год назад

      @@MotoVibes Watch the video again; the quotes of elevations are given as "2.091 m" and so on. It's quite clear to see! 2.091 m is less than 7 feet. I've worked in engineering for almost 40 years, so I'm quite familiar with the terminology regarding lengths, distances and height etc.!

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  Год назад

      @@Jer0867 now I see what you are getting at. Half the world is using a comma as decimal separator the other half a dot (like the USA). Pretty much all of Europe is using the comma including the Germany (where I am from) so switching to English from non native speakers this is what sometimes happens as it did in my indications of elevations. Usually the order of magnitude will be quite obvious as in this case to figure out the right number. This mix up of decimal separators is a lot more common than you think usually for translation reasons.
      Wikipedia has an interesting article on this topic if you are interested en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_separator

      I use 2 drones - I have a DJI Mavic air 2 which is old now by current standards and likely will see an upgrade soon. The DJI is for all the landscape shots etc. the second drone is a Skydio 2 which is excellent in tracking shots - none were in this video but on the newer videos these shots are easy to spot. It’s like having a camera man along which is great since I am usually the only one with such camera gear even if I ride in a group 😉
