Wow. That tool where you pull the springs in place is genius. And, it's exactly what I need. I inherited a cheap couch that had this type of spring in plastic holders. They're not properly secured and one popped off it sideways. The strength in the spring is such that I've been trying to figure out how to extend it back so I can slot it in, almost took out an eye when I lost track of what I was doing and got too close to see what was going on. 😬 Going to whip up a tool like this tomorrow and get it sorted.

I would love to get the wire clip gun, but i dont have that much to do. Could you recommend a good hand tool for the job? I need to replace a few springs, and run new wire across all the springs.

QUESTION!!!! I've seen some couch-making videos and they use like. . . . I'm not sure of the name but it looks like some kind of a heavy duty nylon strap. I'm wondering: is there any benefit of using these straps vs springs? Or springs vs straps?

I would definitely buy Custom Made Couch from him. Does s nice .Quality job. I replaced springs on my old couch which.tirned out good but the guy who made my Couch couldn't hit the Side of a barn with Nail Staple gun so many Miss's exposed Nails I added Brackets Glued most of Joints Drill holes used Deck wood Screws now it's solid . By watching this guy he knows what he's doing and Takes pride in his workmanship those traits Getting to be Lost cause in USA. Everything Rush half ass. Enjoyed watching video

Hi, how would you measure the spring for a project? I see that you have to stretch the spring, so are they 2 or 3 inchs shorter than the span they have to cover or only 1"? just wondering how i would get a goo spring length for my seat project. thanks

How do you determine the length of the springs and what type of lumber is the frame made of. Thanks nice video
Robert Avery As for springs - Rather than buying pre cut springs of a certain length you can buy a roll which you cut yourself with bolt cutters. E.g. see Heico direct. They also sell 8g and 9g for bottom and 11g for back (some places don’t do 8g). Measure the length between back and front rail and multiply by how many springs you have (can do 4 inch distance rather than 5 if you want more support). Springs will be curved but you also pull them taut so the length between the wood is an accurate guide. That way it’s better to have too much than not enough, and worst case scenario you can give away any remaining length that you won’t use

Could you change a chair from coil springs to those type of Springs?
Oh I see why we were sinking in the couch. The manufacturer didn’t fasten the spring end clip. When the kids jumped on the couch, the springs became unfastened. Also, our couch had way less springs. Almost half. Finally the steel wire clips loosened. The wooden frame started to crack too. I really need to become a carpenter to fix this couch. 😢

Man I need a manual tool to attach the stay wire clips to the springs - he’s using a pneumatic one with a compressor, the hand tools are like $75, dang I just need to attach one wire. 😢

try repairing those springs when they break...and they will,it's a nightmare job,not for the faint of heart,most folks just throw away the sofa,i've repaired quite a few in my day and it's not easy,esp to do it correctly,so the repair lasts.
