I grew some carrots in a deep flower pot this past year. They were frozen solid in Dec. I brought the container indoors for 3 days to thaw and they were still good. Nice and sweet.
Wow i never thought winter harvest was possible. Thank you for sharing. We just moved from Ontario to CB and can’t wait to get planting this spring. I would love to hear any tips you might have for a new maritimer :).
That's great! Can you remind us what zone you are in again? I had Carrots until December but I'm on the west coast so they were uncovered and I got a visitor who stole the rest of them🐇. Newspaper is a good tip! I have been using a damp tea towel for most of my harvests I put in the fridge. But I typically wash everything first. Works really well too.
I'm thinking about putting in some veggies this coming spring. Do you have a cellar? we had cellars here until about the mid 1980's when most people even the die hards were getting further and further from a traditional way of lifestyle. Now since the pandemic the importance of your lifestyle you are sharing with us has peaked many to start painting their own veggies once again.
Hey Charlie! I have the thermostat in my garage that I keep at 5c, so the garage is like a cellar from November to April - which is when i need a cellar. Everything is simply stored in cardboard boxes on the floor. Here's a vid on an easy way to make potato gardens if you're interested. ruclips.net/video/5LIYckw8cPg/видео.html
I dig only what I am going to use right away, and I take a pot of hot water out with me so that I can wash them on the spot and my hands don't freeze! You are so right about the freshness of them in the middle of winter. Store-bought carrots are yuck!
Great idea but not sure if that would work here at - 25 degrees celsius and that's not that cold yet. We haven't seen it yet even hit the - 40's yet. Would be nice but I am reluctant lol
Thanks Greg...great podcast. I did this years ago and had beautiful sweet tasting carrots and parsnips. Think I had beats too. Nothing like going out in the middle of winter to dig up some veg.🥰, Sharon.
Great video ad usual! Nice snow fall...we have nothing....last real snow was Christmas! I have spinach and lettuce under a couple cold frames which are about 2 - 3" high so once things warm up that will start growing again and we will have fresh salads beginning again in March! Thanks for doing this. Mike👍 🇨🇦
I'm always so impressed with your outcomes. I'm looking forward to my garden this year. I hope I've learned a little more. Also I love your new channel great info. We have a lot in common.

Very nice 👍🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks bub!
Very informative. Thank you.
You are welcome!
It's looking pretty Canada-ish around my home in Ontario today too!
Oh wow!

Exactly :)
very good I will try this next year
All the best
I followed your advise and domed some root veggies.
One issue... the potatoes started to grow!
Hopefully this snow fall will settle that issue.
I don' dome my potatoes for that very reason
So these were grown when? And you just keep them in ground when you are ready to eat? Thank you Mr maritime gardener!
I sowed them in April or May
I put in an order with Vesseys to try them out. Appreciated the shipping code, thanks!
Hope they work out great for you!
That's so good - fresh carrots under the snow
Yep!
@@maritimegardening4887 enjoy them, mine is young, not ready to be lifted yet
another great video, love the dome design I think i could do this. is that a cattle panel?
It's concrete remesh - very similar to cattle panel
They do store better in the ground :)
I still have some carrots left in ground and in a tub going to try and build a dome for next winter .. thanks for the idea
Sounds great!

It's a question of whether the day time sun can melt the night time freeze

Thanks Dwayne! More OOTC to come :)
Wish I still had some left...oh well to the store I go. Jeez you got a good snowfall compared to our bit this week.
That’s a very nice crop of snow you have grown there.
