Omg I never thought I'd see people react to this. This show is unhinged and you'll love it lol. Very very little of Staged is improvised, but they've said that a few moments are just the two of them going off script just a little bit, if I understood that correctly.
Yes, Michael's wife is also an actress, and so is the director's sister, which is also his real sister. He is also the real director and writer of the series.
This is a great show. The start of series 2 still blows my mind.

They can do alphabetical order on opening credits too. If David Tennant had been able to keep his birth name professionally, he would have come before Sheen. They had staggered credits on _Cheers_ for Shelley Long and Ted Danson, and, actually, they have staggered credits in season 2 of _Good Omens._ Tennant is lower corner left and Sheen is upper corner right. In the first season, Sheen's name comes on first and Tennant's after, but Sheen's fades and Tennant's stays on a bit longer. So they kind of did always put in some effort to make it even.
It's great because David and Michael became like huge friends after the show (Good Omens)

From my understanding, it was very scripted. If you watch the bloopers, you can get an idea. I would have been interested to see an actual documentary done on Zoom of their rehearsing a play, though, actually.
This is kind of like when George Burns and Gracie Allen, and Jack Benny, et al, had sitcoms where they played "themselves." Burns would even watch on television to see how the plot of the episode was progressing and then go back to join the other characters.
