Thanks for the video man! I bought a 2000 Acura TL recently with an F’d up mirror as well. This was helpful in taking it off. For anybody wondering (2021) I did not replace with an OEM mirror. I opened the original, took out the leaky mirror (glass), put the housing back together and mounted it back up on the car. I purchased a cheap wide angle mirror that clips on and looks awesome instead. Highly recommend for a cheap fix (~$10)
I just used your video to replace the mirror min my daughters 1999 Acura TL. Everything worked great, except i had to extend the wiring harness as the one on my mirror was too short. (From a newer model). When they say it will fit, 1999 through 2007, they are correct, mounting wise, but not necessarily harness length wise. Get the exact model if you can) Thanx for the video, it made things much easier. Good job! Cheers....
As to the leakage of the mirror, I called the manufacturer. The first mirror manufacturer knew about the problem and sold it to another manufacturer. They knew about the problem and were willing to extend the warranty. Honda knew about the problem as well and asked the manufacturer not to extend the warranty beyond two years. By the time most of the mirrors began to fail they were out of warranty and now you have to pay for a very expensive mirror. Even at Pull Apart the mirror is about $22 and is still subject to leaking.
What was shown was good and easy to follow. But like others have said showing the removal of the old mirror was important part that was not included. It would not have been very difficult to reinstall the old mirror then remove it for a complete how to.
The Acura rear view mirror is held in place by thee tiny tabs (points) that stick down from the window lug. Two tabs on the bottom corner and one larger tab on the top center. These tabs run along the top edge of the window bracket as you push the mirror over the lug. These three "tabs" then fall in place on the bracket and are held firm by the spring. As the car ages and the bracket moves about or the bracket is taken off and on the car, the tabs wear down the bracket, the mirror gets loose and may fall off. If you look at the top edge of the bracket you can see if the edge is worn or not. If it is so badly worn that the tabs will not stay in place then you have to replace the bracket or possibly hot glue one or more of the tabs. The top center tab is the last to engage and would probably be the best to hot glue. That would make it easier to replace and easier to glue. Another simple repair alternative is to put a self threading screw through one or both of the square holes on the bracket and use that screw to put pressure on the lug. That prevents the mirror from moving about and keeps it locked in place. That mean you have to scrap one of the prongs on the plastic cover but it is a good alternative and easy to do.. Acura put out a service notice about the spring being deformed but I don't really think that has much if anything to do with the problem. As you move the mirror in place, the service manual says you have to tap it lightly with a flat head screw driver with the outside edges wrapped in tape. That drops the mirror into the final position over the center tab. To remove the mirror you have to push up on the mirror then take it off. The more you wiggle or shake the mirror the more damage you will do to the edge and tabs.
Hi, i really need your help to show me how to remove rear view mirror on Acura. Because my 2002 Acura, the tab of it is so hard to press it, and i do not know how to take it out
If you haven’t done this yet, I’ll take mine off again & send you a video. But, once you get the plastic cover off there is a clip that presses down (between the mirror arm and the windshield) in the mirror should slide off the mounting bracket glued to the windshield.
Metalheart80s Sorry I didn't get back with you sooner. I posted this video and didn't think about it again. Never dreamed that so many would find this helpful. If the mirror coming off is still a problem, buy some locktite (the kind that comes in a little tube like super glue or krazy glue) at any hardware store or auto parts store. Put just a drop or two on each side of the bracket and reattach. Use a punch and metal hammer to drive it up on the bracket. It doesn't take much and be very carefull not to tap the windshield or it will crack. Just to be safe you could tape cardboard or something to the windshield to give it some protection. I can't caution you enough about taking care not to tap the windshield with the punch or the hammer.
Anyway,.you could share the part number / supplier (if you went through a third party to get it??). How hard is it, to physically remove the mirror from the windshield bracket??
WARNING --- WARNING --- Video does not show taking the mirror off the windshield. I also "cracked" my windshield! Be advised it only takes one tap on the mirror to break the windshield!
If you look at the invoice he shows briefly, you can make out Acura of Tempe. That dealer sells Acura parts on eBay as acurapartssource. Unfortunately, he probably purchased this 5 years ago and the price has gone up quite a bit. I just ordered it myself for a insane $136.50 plus shipping. I should have bought it years ago when it first went bad. PS. It looks like I purchased the last one from acurapartstore. Hopefully they will get more in stock but you should be able to find it by Googling the part number. 76400-SEP-A02ZA. Unfortunately, everybody is selling it for around $140 or so these days:(
does anyone know how to replace an inside rear view mirror for a 1998 oldsmobile regency? It's not your typical mirror, it has some type of clip on it that makes it very hard to slide back onto the piece on the windshield.
Sorry I didn’t decide to share until I had the mirror out. There is a tab under mirror cover (on windshield side) that you squeeze to slide mirror off.
Don't do the hammer and punch!! It's in the Acura service manual but it is unnecessary. Grasp the mirror stem firmly, wiggle it side to side as you pull towards front of car and downward in parallel with glass. It will come right off.
Please see my posting. Don not wiggle or shake the mirror or you will damage the holding bracket. The service manual say to use a flat edge screwdriver with the outside edge wrapped in tape - a very light tap.

If you're going to do a replacement video, how about you show how to take it out. That's most important in cases like this.
Wow,I didn't know it would leak out, changing mine soon, thanks for the step-by-step process (: very helpful

what kind of glue did did you use to attach it
No glue the holder was never off the windshield. The windshield mount & rearview mirror slide together. Depress the spring clip to detach.

Very helpful, thank you!!
Thank you! I will be doing the same job soon.
Thanks, worked great for me as well on my 2002 TL. Honda part # 76400-S3V-A02ZA. $81.13 plus tax from my Canadian Acura dealership parts dept.
This can be done without a punch. It can be snapped in by hand.
You have red solo cups on each end of that table? Hmmmm, I wonder what you've been doing.
