This is a essay that I made forgive my fore my spelling and grammar IXL is a “learning” website. IXL is a paid membership at $6.99 per month per student. So don’t worry not only will it give your brain a sanding it will lighten your wallet. I will compare IXL to other learning websites in different categories. Number 1 learning style Now IXL lets you pick which one you do which is a great option. It lets teachers assign stuff and study for what you want. The downside is when you get assigned stuff it can be too hard and when you pick you typically don't go out of your comfort zone. While there should be a way to choose a topic the default should always be AI. IXL tries to do this with recommendations it still makes the user pick and they will typically choose what they already know . Also on the assignments it tells you the difficulty which makes you look stupid when you're low and it shows a massive point deduction when you are high. Things like prodigy do AI so well they have the user just out of their comfort zone and that is perfect. Number 2 competition Competition can make even the most least academic person be a constant participant in the class. Nerds like it because they like to show off ,jocks like it because it is competitive ,and everyone else likes it because it is a good time. IXL has no competition. There's no leaderboards there's no records there's even a cap to how well you can do . Also you can even do a second run. You can't compete in any way shape or form with anybody. Other games have plenty of competition kahoot has the whole Live competition that you can host in the classroom , prodigy has one V one battles you can request blookit and gimkit you have a Game that someone can once again host with records. Competing against another person drives you to get better to beat them and leaderboards even if you're the only one doing it makes you strive to improve. Number 3 awards Awards make you feel like you have something done and there's no greater feeling spending an hour working on one award and getting it and getting a new power up or smile Or a level up. IXL does have these Awards but none of them do anything and they also don't have a special objective to them they're just do this for a certain amount of time do that for a certain amount of time. And there's no hard ones to make you feel like you're on the grind. Prodigy is a master of doing this every time you want to battle you get XP and eventually level up also you get coins at the end of every battle that you can use to buy stuff like costumes you get no pets and there aren't any pity Awards. Booklet gives you coins for new avatars. Gimkit does the same. Number 4 progress There are things called rage games and they are good at keeping people playing because they want to prove themselves that they are better. Rage games work great but not when you want them to learn. IXL pretty much is a rage game because every time you get one wrong it sets you back a bunch. Also the story gives a whole new way to have Rewards and in a way that is most memorable. Sometimes the story can be a little overused. It usually works out. Number 6 twist If someone makes a game that's really fun, games shouldn't be everywhere. Every game needs a twist like a prodigy has pets Seteria has a way to make a new map. Khan Academy has a Mastery test. They all have a little twist. Now that I think of it, IXL does a twist: it makes you throw your computer across the room. A twist makes you want to do something over another. Conclusion I don’t like IXL some people do I am just saying that IXL is frustrating and teachers should pick something with this criteria
