Oh - the joy of 0 gauge clockwork - nice to hear it was your highlight. LOADS of these lovely trains are available on popular auction sites and the common items are well priced, invariably reliable given their age, with a bit of TLC - great fun and a great community of collectors for the original Hornby 0 and Dublo as your film shows
Good morning David, thank you for watching, the opportunity to see this many items from ranges developed by Hornby was very enjoyable, especially being able to see and hear many of them in motion. I've been tempted a number of times by 0 gauge clockwork, but so far I have resisted.. Take care. Oscar
Really enjoyable upload. Memories for me with Britannia & the tank loco running around & some of the older sets at the collectors show were really amazing. Many thanks.
Hi, thanks for watching glad you enjoy the video, terrific day out and great to see such a different model railway items in action all under one roof. Take care. Oscar
Hello Oscar, bit later catching up this week, its good to see steady progress on the layout, the wiring is coming along nicely, it's incredible just how long it takes. That class 31 is running very nicely at the moment, isn't it amazing how a train can run around the layout a dozen times fine then for no reason it decides to leap off the rails, all part of the fun. Looks like you had a good day at the vintage show, wasn't that helix amazing and the engines coped with it very well. So many of them looked to be in amazing condition. All great to see, thanks for taking the time and trouble to film and show us. I'm about to get ready for my little job only two days a week but I enjoy it. See you next time, Eddy xxx
Good morning Eddy, work on the layout is definitely progressing slowly, but some rewarding progress has been made. As you say many of those items at the exhibition are in stunning condition, some must be around 100 years old now. It was great, seeing so many Hornby items in the one place. Take care. Oscar
Amazing show, really neat to see all the vintage Hornby O and Dublo. Have a little of the O in clockwork and some of the Hachette repros on my Lionel layout here in the States as I'm a fan of British models.
Hi, thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed the footage, Great to hear you like the British model railway items, they do look so different from North American locomotives and rolling stock, I've just recently seen a little bit Lionel & America Flyer in action at another event, sadly we don't get to see much of it in action here in the UK. Take care. Oscar
@@oscarpaisley It's much the same over here in the states, British models in O gauge are decidely niche here as we still use the 3-rail system with AC power (to say nothing of the mains voltage and frequencies being different as well) while the trend in the UK is 2 rail and DC power nowadays, makes things interesting when trying to find new engines for the layout to be sure! I was pleasantly surprised to find a Lionel Collectors Club based in the UK, are you familiar with them?
Good morning Mike, Ronald Dodd has one built into his terrific railway, you can see it in action, along with a motorised turntable, here: ruclips.net/video/YCOW4c-DBug/видео.html Thanks again take care. Oscar
Hi Oscar, Love the video from Shildon, being a long standing (over 35 years) member of the HRCA I really appreciated the time you took to record the day. Maybe see you at Gaydon in October?
Good morning Dave, thanks for watching. It's terrific to hear you enjoyed the footage, it was a great day out getting to seeing these stunning items on show and very much appreciate the effort by all those involved with HRCA and at Locomotion in making this event possible. I was just at Gaydon a few weeks ago for the TCS, Trix, Bassett-Lowke event, depending on time and various commitments it would be great to get down to the event in October. Take care. Oscar
Hi Oscar. It’s Tuesday morning Oscar time this week due to a big golf tournament at the weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. That show at Shildon was amazing. There is so much “antique “ Hornby/Triang model railway stuff that is in such excellent condition. I had no idea. Brilliant filming as always, will have to go back and pause to read the comments on screen, they disappeared to quickly for me to catch them. Thanks again for sharing. Really appreciate the time you take to do this. Roy.
Thanks Roy, glad you enjoyed that footage, it's amazing what lovely condition those items are in, many must be getting on for 100 years old, Hornby certainly did develop some lovely model railway items over the years. Hope you had a great time at the golf tournament, take care. Oscar
Hi Oscar, great video most enjoyable, especially the Shildon show, some wonderful old locos and rolling stock beautifully preserved and maintained.........more please. Regards Barry
Loved the hornby acho layout they looked well detailed for their time ,you know you 3D print your elevated supports if you decide to refit the catenary the sections over the mainline could have the clips built in ,could that be done ,another good video coffee and a bourbon bikkie and our Oscar Cheers Mark 😊😊
Afternoon Mark glad you enjoyed the footage the AcHo railway was quite lovely. The continental buildings always look so futuristic to me. I do have a few of the R.310 Mast Clips for sidewalls Tri-ang made for use with the catenary, but nowhere near enough for this current section of raised track. I think at present, if there was going to be catenary on the railway it would be restricted to the inner line only. But I think a solution could be made for supporting the Maste without too much trouble, possibly very time consuming.. Thanks again. Oscar
First class. Love it. Your Triang rubber tunnel on your layout brought back some happy memories when I was a small lad. My dad would stop the train in the tunnel and I was there wondering why it had not emerged. Triang and Hornby is just the best. Thank you for sharing your videos.
When I was in charge of our clubs Thomas You Drive layout the preference for many young drivers was to stop the Thomas or Percy trains in the long tunnels. Could not work that out myself as it was more time not driving or seeing the train I used to say Thomas might get scared staying in a dark tunnel since I was hoping not to have the big job of retrieving a stalled train from the tunnel as well as hoping that they got maximum usage from their turn of driving. Often parents would see the issue and encourage their children not to stop. My suggestion of stopping in stations was only taken up be a few , but those who mastered that were very pleased with their control skills in learning that the controller handle was more than the on off switch that most digital age children thought it was.
Lots to see and hear in this one. The early Hornby is always amazing to see, so shiny and colourful. The elevated section on your layout looks like it will be the best one yet with a station no less, looking forward to the steady progress. 😊
Good morning Pauline, glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching, terrific day out been able to see and hear so many lovely items in the one place. Take care. Oscar
Morning Oscar, Some superb vintage models, buildings and signage at Shildon, great footage. Excellent progress on the elevated section and the idea of an elevated station is something to get excited about. Yet another one to add to the ‘Grand Day Out’ section 😀 ATB, Gordon
Thank you Gordon. It really was a ‘Grand Day Out’ with some terrific items to see, and those large tinplate trackside accessories are quite something. Really looking forward to developing the elevated part of the railway further. Take care. Oscar
Great video Oscar, you had some wonderful shots of all the vintage tin plate sets I liked the extra closeups of the real locos as well. My favourite was the Dublo layout with the full scenic's not seen that done before, it worked very well. Your upper level station idea is very interesting, look forward to see how it pans out. Cheers Rob.
This layout is a perfect example, of actually enjoying a comprehensive DC analogue layout.. No modern track or 'fine' wheel standards to worry about.. It's just what model railways used to be all about in the 1960s.. (Although on a larger layout than most of us would have ever dreamed about).. Oscar has made a few new switches and contemporary relays enhance the running to an outstanding level? Congratulations... Long may the FUN continue..
Great video here Oscar and as always hope you had a really nice time at this show, I have never been to the shildon site of the NRM but really want to go there as they have a lot of great exhibits like the prototype deltic and APT-e as well as the prototype HST power car which are all exhibits that I would like to see in person, some great shots of the layouts and a lot of interesting items on the various layouts that you saw.
Good morning David, thanks for watching great to hear you enjoyed the footage. Shildon NRM is a great day out there is always something to see, there is a viewing area alongside the workshop at the back so you're able to see current renovation work in action, definitely worth a visit. Take care. Oscar
Hi there Oscar ,, quick question ,, Why do people run there trains flat knacker. I know there models but the poor imaginary people on the trains must be getting soo much motion sickness hahah. Cheers from John in Australia
It's great how these old Triang trains just run faultlessly around the rather coarse track and tight corners yet you buy modern Peco track with large radiuses, modern Bachmann locos and stock and the damn things derail all the time and constantly come uncoupled. There has not been any improvement over the years.
I second that !! The early track and wheel standards work very well some 60 years later? I would be surprised if our grandchildren will still enjoy the model locos and rolling stock built today, (But the old Tri-ang and Dublo will probably still be going in many years to come)? ?

The concept of an elevated station intrigues me! I must admit I did not see that coming.

Thanks Gordon. Glad you enjoyed that, certainly are wonderful things those tinplate O gauge models.

I winced at the derailment, but Triang trains are made of sterner stuff🙂 Looking forward to seeing more development on the elevated setion.

Trial and error ! The best way of « planning » a layout 😂

Another great video Oscar, did you buy anything at the show?
Hi Graham, glad you enjoyed that, oddly there was no retail/trade stands at all at the show just the NRM Locomotion gift shop.
Take care.

Jinxed it by saying that it would go horribly wrong! (aprox 33 mins in were the train de-railled) 😕☹😱

Hi, the layout is approximately 3m x 4.5 m with an operating well of 1.2m x 2.3m.
