@@keylavenosa9990 well, it depends on where do you come from and where do you wanna go. For example: Bilbao airport has international connections with mostly all European Capitals. But, if you come from overseas, you'll probably have to connect flights. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Hi James, Yoli and Lucia!
Thanks for this.I moved from England to Asturias nine years ago and have loved every minute. The countryside is green and beautiful, the Picos are a must. Next time you should check out the fishing towns and the spectacular beaches.
I settled in the ancient city of Oviedo. What really convinced me to move here was the friendliness of the people. I was not wrong. and here English is not spoken by many and I am dyslexic . But nevertheless within a couple of months I made dozens of friends, some who have moved on but many I have retained. I am retired but age doesn't seem to be a problem many of my friends are half my age.
Living in Asturias is in may ways living in a time that time forgot, most bars, shops and restaurants are privately owned and there is hardly a multinational chain to be seen unless you count Zara, which comes from the neighbouring region of Galicia.
You forgot to mention that the seafood is also spectacular.
Love your channel. All the best.

It's striking how all these Atlantic-facing/Western European regions & countries look so much alike, with their own unique feeling, of course: Asturias, Brittany (I'm from there), Wales, Ireland etc. The rolling hills, if not outright mountainous terrain; the diffuse, gentle greenness of the land; the oceanic climate (with some nuances, depending on the latitude); the ambiguity in the sea's color (grey? blue? green? the three at the same time?); the rugged coast; the feeling of being at the very end of the world etc.
Still, Asturias is a beautiful region. Hope to visit someday, why not... Ah, so many countries and places to visit!

I'm from Yorkshire in the UK and have visited a few times. It reminds me of the Western facing parts of the UK but the Asturian coast also reminds me a little of the Yorkshire coast around Whitby with the same little red roofed fishing villages hidden in little coves. And the people really are so friendly even if you don't speak much Spanish like me.

That was the most enjoyable video I've seen on the region. I was laughing and smiling throughout. When we first came to Asturias in 2010, we fell in love and came back year after year. We now make Oviedo our home and we couldn't be happier. I have mixed feelings about people discovering this region. I selfishly want to keep it a secret, but on the other hand, Asturias should be experienced. Saludos desde Oviedo.

I’m with you. Don’t let this secret out. Lol. Only half joking. My wife and I have been visiting Spain, from the States, for 20 years. 10 years ago we “discovered” Asturias and Cantabria. We come every year for 2-3 weeks at a time. It’s our home away from home. But, lucky for us, we alway visit in Autumn and Winter months. We don’t see many tourists from outside of Spain. Cheers on your retirement. You’ve found the loveliest place to live.

I'm from Yorkshire in the UK(a beautiful region itself if you ever visit with some stunning coastline) and stayed in Covadonga a few years ago. It's such a beautiful area with a completely different pace of life. The owner of my hotel Casa Rural Priena was so friendly. She gave me a cider apple as a gift. I never realised how big they are. In the UK cider apples are much smaller. I thought it was a cooking apple at first. What we'd call a Bramley which are very sour. I visited the reconstructed shepherds hut up by the lakes. I didn't realise people were still living like that. You'll see old abandoned shepherd huts on the moors of Yorkshire. I'll definitely try that bar next time I visit Cangas!

Probably I'm biased because since I was a kid till I was like 23 every single summer were the best in my life when I was there. The nature, the people, the food... everything. Now that I'm 53 and not so often I can go... maybe once every 2 years, but once I'm there I breath propely.

I was able to research and find my heritage that goes back 5 generations that are on record of what they found for me in Candamo.
Thank you for sharing. One day I would love to go and meet remaining cousins and learn of the history.

Tip: The beauty of Asturias isn't confined to the east and in high season the east 'el oriente' can be very busy, so don't overlook other areas of Asturias. A particular favourite of mine is the region of 'Los Oscos' in the west 'el occidente' of Asturias.

Apart of the sea, Asturias looks pretty much like my home country Slovakia 🇸🇰 those mountains and lakes look similar to High Tatras mountains 😊 but yeah, we don't have a sea in Slovakia 🤷🏻‍♂️😂 anyway, nice video and that stew looked gorgeous 🤤

Hi James, Yoli and Lucía, What an amazing video. Thank you for sharing it with us. I love Spain and have visited, lived and worked in many parts of it. I must say though that nowhere has left such a lasting impression as Asturias. It is a truly magical place unlike any other part of the country. Can't wait to get back there. Saludos.

North of Spain - from Galicia to Euskadi - is my favorite corner of the world, together with the Ligurian Riviera in Northern Italy.

What a wonderful video! Looks like a lovely, but cool, part of Spain. I assume it was shot in October/November. Beautiful area and it looks like well worth a visit.

Hi John, it is a cool part of Spain indeed. Also very different from the stereotypical imaginary of Spain (sun, dry climate, paella, bullfights or flamenco). Asturias has a moderate Atlantic climate been one of the most rainy places in Europe, with fresh summers and temperate winters, when you can find the whole mountain range the separates Asturias from Spain covered in snow and actually do some skiing. Because of its climate and rugged landscapes, that slowly fade into the Atlantic Ocean (in its so called Cantabria see), there’s an amazing dramatic scenery from valley to valley and from the coastline to the high mountains. Also because of its landscapes it has been barely invaded, only the Romans managed to conquered the area after decades of war against the mixed celtic tribes living there. These people brought there own cattle, sheep, goat (all of them different from the Iberian breeds) and for millennia shaped the environment they were sorrounded by. The cuisine is second to none, you can have all the fresh fish the ocean and rivers can provide you with, you can have some of the best meats in Europe but Asturias is synonymous of cheese as it has one of the most varied cheese footprints of Europe. Because of how well protected the wild environment is you can still fish wild salmon, observe wild bears roaming across the mountains or hike through unaltered forests. As most of other Atlantic regions, cider is part of its culture as well as the sound of the bagpipes, tradicional mythology or the welcoming attitude towards others.

The views are awesome, so all that healthy greenery means that the air quality has to be amazing (which is something that I love). I've seen enough photos of this area to know that this is a must see.

Ive been as you know in previous videos, in spain for 17yrs. When i first arrived spent first 5 yrs getting to know all of the country, but felt drawn to the north more than the rest of the country. So after spending 15yrs in madrid, we moved to Santander, mainly due to a bereavement! And after a good search, bought a place!!
My wife whose from Ceuta, wants us now to share our time between Santander+ Ceuta!

Great video. It brought back memories of visiting Oviedo in May. I went to Los Lagos de Covadonga, Gijón, Cudillero, Luarca, El Parque natural de Somiedo, Barayo beach, Cangas de Onis. There is still so much to see. So I will go back.

Oh wow, the cliffs triggered my vertigo, but they were beautiful none the less. And that cider looked delicious, especially with that cheese. I'm going to have to practice my cider drinking skills before I get there. Wow, that wind. It's all so beautiful.
