the meanings have informally become synonymous, but the technical difference is that sprockets mesh with chains, and cogwheels mesh with other cogs or with gears. the cog itself is a tooth of a cogwheel that is inserted into a wheel as opposed to a gear which has cut teeth.

    • @sweaterfish6311

Some men fear that they have become nothing other than cogs in the machinery of modern society. For my part, I prefer to think of myself as a sprocket.

In the Atari ST port of Moon Patrol, there's two difficulty levels, "Beginner's Course" and "Advanced Course", each with a full A-Z run of checkpoints. After completing Advanced Course, you move on to Advanced Course 2, which is... the exact same thing, but with a "2" in the name. After that is Advanced Course 3... no different. 8-year-old me's crowning life achievement was reaching Advanced Course 24 without using any Continues. At that point, however, grandma noticed I hadn't shown up for lunch or dinner time, and sent my cousins upstairs to collect me, by brute force if necessary (it was).

An easier way to do those caps or any smc is put the flux down first then lay the component flat and just touch it with the iron (with solder on the tip). Then just do the other side.
    Same with that charger controller.
But I guess everyone has their technique.

Good job on the game, Ben. It looks and seem to also play great!
I think it was I who suggested it, either here or on the twitters. Super fun to see it implemented.
It would (will, hopefully) be cool to see people make cases for that badge.
You know what would also be cool, but for a future version of that? If they could communicate with one another over a short distance (kind of like one of the handheld Nintendo consoles, I think the 3DS did that), and you could make a game based on that characteristic. Something that would use the screen just for notifications/warning messages, so maybe something like a spy game, that you could steal "plans" stealthily from other players (I'm thinking of the plans from Impossible Mission, something graphical, like a puzzle piece).

God, I did 3 or 4 years of Computer Engineering and Electronics at college, back in 1995 to 1999. Which was hardcore programming in C++ and, er... something else! Some other language that I can't even remember the name of now! The course also took in the architecture of computers so you would know what your programming commands were doing/affecting. Lots of maths, quadratic equations, hexadecimal and binary fuckery involved! 😊
I did it so that I would be able to make computer games in future!
Well, to be honest, I think it's generally something that you need to understand and 'click' with as a young child, preferably as a 7yr old and up! Cos even though I qualified the course, I seriously still had no bloody idea how to go about making a frigging computer game! *Sigh!* 😞
I should also mention that at that particular moment in time (mid 90s to early 2000s), computing took a quantum leap forward as to how things were done! Memory became cheap, modems... changed! And became cheap too. Basically everything I'd learnt seemed to become virtually irrelevant overnight!

That's really cool. I was giving kits away at the local maker fest with a nano, 400 pin breadboard, i2c OLED, joystick module and some wires. The focus for my stuff is the game programming so the kit goes together without soldering very easily.
I'm curious as to how much of the improvement in the framerate is from using SPI instead of i2c and how much is from just being better at coding. I used I2C with my kit just because it was fewer wires and originally used a wii nunchuck which is also i2c.
