Northern pike are well know to pretty much attack anything that moves in the water. I've even had one that tried to attacked my canoe paddle ... needless to say it was an entertaining sight seeing that pike literally go airborne.

@@MrRobjs83 Yea that is why I was specifying for the topwater fishing. It is really difficult to get live animals (especially ones that you have hooked) to give the right kind of presentation you need to get a fish to strike for topwater. A lot of times a hooked frog is going to immediately try to swim for the weeds and try to bury itself in, or just straight up die.
I remember this used to happen at one of the parks near me. They had huge 3 or 4 foot koi and catfish in the manmade lake (before they drained it and killed them, bastards,) and those guys would eat unsuspecting baby ducks all the time. They would also come right up to you and beg for a whole slice of bread. Fish gotta eat. :D

@@mrboon2590 Idk, I fished Spike so the only think a could see is they are extremely effective to Hide and wait something pass near them, whit a high ground like that it was easy to spot whit shadow beneath it but so low above the water whit a smaller angle it was probably harder to see it, could have been mistaken for a wood trunk.. One thing is clear, they are known to snap young ducks ( rarely mature ones ) so its not that mother particularly
he singled out the one that was separate from the group...perfect example of safety in numbers...you can see the mother duck at the very last moment looking down like "wtf? oh noes!"

Many predators of ducklings, that's why they have large broods. But pike get taken by otters, sea eagles, cormorants, etc, even big ones, not to mention anglers. It's all nature.

I was once attacked by a 87" Northern Pike while bathing in Manitoba. I fought her off with my bare hands and after 2 hours I finally was able to drag her onshore. Needless to say we had shorelunch for one whole week after that ordeal. The wounds are still healing on my torso, but it was worth it. Too bad I forgot my camera at home, otherwise I'd share the video here.
Northern Pike are aggressive fish but ive never seen a freshwater fish as agressive as a Tiger Musky. Half pike half musky. Beautiful fish and so fun to catch due to their overly aggressive nature.

The pike are not a native species. They're killing all the King salmon too. They're an invasive species.

I've seen muskies do this, too! Pike and muskie will eat anything, mice, ducks...anything that size and in the water is fair game.
