    Very informative video. Layman's terms this jackpine savage could understand. The addition of crayons would have been a nice but I figured it out. 🙂 Thank you !

    If your using a stihl chainsaw use just go and buy a stihl ripping chain and bar ‘ they are specially made for this type of work ‘ and like there saws they are excellent ‘ the stihl bar and chain cut a much narrower kerf or cut width than the granberg chain ‘ which in turn passes through say hardwoods much easier than the wider chains and bars ‘ which in turn produces much less sawdust and more usable wood ‘ for instance cutting boards of 1 inch thick where a lot of waste can Accor ‘ the stihl set scores greatly here

      Hmm. Might try this approach. Granbergs 36 inch chains are back ordered. Thanks for the recommendation. I just got a MS661 and can't wait to get some slabs cut.

    This may sound crazy but I sure wish that you sold these or one of your dealers sold these on eBay. That's where I get all my chainsaw supplies. I don't shop anywhere else

    Have used other brands of ripping chain. Granberg’s is hands down the best. No doubt about it. The design is far superior to the others.

      I'm pretty sure this is true. I haven't been doing this long, but their aren't just a ton of options where ripping chains are concerned. Until proven otherwise This is the best ripping chain available for purchase.

    Skip tooth has a 3rd less cutters, not a half less and really, do you think that if you hit something nasty with skip you won't notice it until it's wrecked but with full comp you may be able to pull away in time? No way,but otherwise very informative

    • @uarbor70
      @uarbor70 3 года назад

      There are different types of skip tooth. There is half Skip and full skip. I am pretty sure full skip has half the number of teeth of a regular chain

      We do apologize for our long lead times right now. The demand for our product and the lengthy lead times from our suppliers due to Covid-19 has made it difficult for us to keep up! We promise we are doing everything possible to ship orders as fast as possible. We appreciate your patience during this time.

    Sometimes I have to half & quarter big logs for fire wood. I've thought about using a ripping chain for this work......is there any safety issue with that? I've seen a lot of people say there is danger in using a ripping chain without a milling attachment.

    • @jaredeberly9724
      @jaredeberly9724 3 года назад

      You shouldn't need a ripping chain for cutting lengthwise down firewood. Like he said in the video you will get the long ribbons of sawdust. The only problem with a standard chain is it cuts too fast and it'll get bound with sawdust. This is where the skip tooth chain comes into play, it's made so it's less likely to bind with the long ribbons of sawdust. I half and quarter logs too, just with a regular chain

    • @09rja
      @09rja 3 года назад

      @@jaredeberly9724 Yeah but the point is: I'm trying to avoid the ribbons. Also, I still wonder about the safety issue with the ripping chain.

    • @jaredeberly9724
      @jaredeberly9724 3 года назад

      @@09rja I would assume that it would work better because it would be taking less off. They would still be ribbons but it would be shaving less off at a time. Also maybe keeping the rakers high on a normal chain would have the same effect

      If you have any older chains for your saw file them to 10-15 deg angle across the top you’ll be ready to go.

      The connection links are the same. The rivets are the same. I often free hand saw boards without a mill guide. I have broken more standard chain links than ripping chain.
      The tow formed by cutting length wise makes good kindling when dry and great smoke when green.

    But, can you "cross-cut" with a Ripping Chain effectively and be cost efficient as well ?

    • @FelonyVideos
      @FelonyVideos Год назад

      I know nothing at all about any of this, but I am learning because I will soon be making boards from dead trees on a new property. From what I've seen on youtube (LOL), the shallow angled cutters cause a lot more kickback than conventional chains. I know I haven't answered either of your questions, but thought I'd share what little I've learned.

      This all depends on the size of your bar. The larger the pitch, the larger the kerf is going to be. Let us know if you have anymore questions!

      When you order our Ripping Chain you can get it cut and looped to whatever length you'd like. You will need to pull the information from you bar though. It is stamped into the bar on the side closest to the powerhead. Email us at info@granberg.com if you need any help figuring this out!

    If I go with Granberg chain in my 36" Alaskan on a Stihl 661, do you have a sharpener for idiots. I can use the Oregon guides with 25 or 30 deg for cross cutting but is there anything you sell that will guide me at 10 deg. I find free handing impossible. Thanks.
