  • Here's a solid Brian Wilson interview from the late 80s. I'll be posting 2 of these today. These interviews feature a very healthy, present, and coherent Brian Wilson. Even has quite a bit of energy.

    Brian didn't like Carl?

They had their differences I suppose. I’ve watched many documentaries and interviews and this topic is almost never covered. It was probably mostly contained within their personal lives.

This interview is from 1988. At the time, Brian was under Dr. Landy's control. Landy brainwashed Brian into believing his family was against him and Landy controlled Brian's access to the Beach Boys. Landy convinced Brian that Carl, Mike, and the rest of the band were trying to sabotage Brian's solo record and his association with Landy.

@@metv2363and there’s an interview with him and Melinda in print where he completely slams Carl and Melinda tells him to stop and be polite.
Soooo…it is hard to blame Landy. Unclear what the fallout was about. Brian’s statements against Carl might’ve been harder than the ones against Mike, but it’s less viral of a topic.
Note Brian is also paraphrasing How To Speak Hip about Jeff Lynne’s shades. Pretty cool. Didn’t notice that one.

@@JW-hn9ck , yes, I was looking at it from the date of this interview when Landy was still in the picture. There has always seemed to be some friction with Brian and the rest of the band going back to the 60s but Brian's beef with Carl is sad if not surprising.

He had no real legitimate or long-standing beef w Carl. I saw them many times greet reunite before BB shows in the 1980s always huge hugs and smiles physical affection. Landy was a dangerous asshole who happened to save Brian’s life. Brian has spoken how much he misses Carl and spent time w him watching football all day at Carls very close to his death. Besides being gifted musicians who gave so much to the world, they were family and grew up doing that together..don’t trip too hard..As Carl said,”Brian is a put on”’ he can at times speak simply or bluntly as anyone knows who’s followed their careers
