  • After the recent emergency on I95, where 100s of vehicles were stranded in the snow, Jason shows how he prepares his family vehicle for similar situations.
    With even a small amount of preparation, situations like this don't have to be an emergency.

    There is an interesting story of a guy that was stranded in Alaska in winter (and -30F temperatures) who cut up the back seats to get at the foam inside to make "shoes" so he could walk to a place with heat & communications without getting frostbit on his feet..

    That’s one thing that people don’t always do is make sure to keep a full tank of fuel during winter. Especially when there is a winter/snow storm coming, make sure to fill up!

    • @toml.8210
      @toml.8210 2 года назад

      A half-empty tank allows water to condense and freeze, which blocks the fuel lines.
      If you do get into deep snow, dig away the snow near the tailpipe! If you don't, you'll die from carbon monoxide poisoning. And run the engine for short periods, only enough to heat the cabin.

    Excellent video with the kiddos and letting the youngest daughter drive (she looked like she owned that steering wheel 😁). I’ve made my Dodge Journey home for going on seven years now. Coworkers have joked how in a situation where vehicles are stranded… there I’d be angry for being disturbed (while cooking meals, watching RUclips videos and staying warm). Do a summer heat video as well pls. Maggie wasn’t too interested in exiting for the fire drill. 👍👍😁🇺🇸

    Make sure if you are leaving your water filtration systems in your vehicle that they will still work after freezing. A lot of filters do not work after being frozen.

    You have a great family buddy it's good to see , keep up the awesome work 👍 I have a feeling we prepers/ Americans may need as much knowledge on these type of things in the immediate future . It seems like the world as we know it is going to hell one day at a time anymore. Everyone stay safe!

    If you live in a hot climate and are taking your car into the snow for the first time make sure your defrost is powerful enough to stop the windshield from freezing over. There are plenty of cars that can’t handle 15 degrees Fahrenheit causing your front windshield to become non clear.

    There are candle lanterns that double as a practical heat source. Just having some people in the vehicle won't do anything. Automobiles leak so much air, and there is no insulation to retain any little heat you can generate with your body.
    The best thing to do is to not go out in severe cold or to know where you are going, to guarantee arrival. Slow down to a safe speed!, take safer roads, or just stay home.

    Equinox is prone to rear main failure below 20 degrees due to clogged pcv valve. Make sure the OEM recommended fix for the pcv has been done. If nit check and drain the line twice a year. Also AC Delco FC219 oil filler cap breaths unlike the stock on Equinox. That will allow excess pressure to escape and not lose the rear main seal.

    Yep, good reminders. Living where I do in Southern Colorado. Weather can be unpredictable and dangerous if not prepared. I have always carried extra coats, blankets, water, snacks, and fire starting stuff in my vehicles. There have been times where we have been delayed because of wrecks or rerouted for various reasons. It always makes me feel like I can get my husband, myself, plus kids through nearly anything, at least for a few days.

    I have decided peanut butter and wheat thins are the Highest density food that will last years and still tastes good. Power bars that do not have a coating that will melt is second best but don’t taste great after 12 months.

      Peanut butter is actually what we stock up in the south for hurricane season. It keeps well in heat & cold, can be eaten straight out of the jar, most people like it, full of protein and good fats. Easy to store.

    When you have a "luxury" SUV, you don't need any extra stuff or preparing! You already have AWD, ABS, and some other acronyms, so you just start your "performance" turbocharged engine, turn on the heat, and GO.
    Screw the ice scraper or snow brush. Those $30 all-weather wiper blades will take care of any ice or snow on the windows, and you have the "brightest headlights allowed" to blind yourself and other drivers. And your $30 UFC T-shirt and eye-phone will keep you warm in the sleet.

    I watch all your videos,, some times twice,, hint hint.... anyway i notice that you quite often say " in the area i am at resources, weather, etc. " prep for that.. i have personally bugged out multiple times from massive weather events .. always the area, resources, and conditions are severely different where you run to, ( many times states away from your starting point ) compaired to where you run from... ie bugging out to a " different location " just something to think about, choose your words wisely... who bugs out to the same or similar location that they are escaping ? Most of the time you are bugging out to a location opposite from where you run.. i.e. high ground, i.e. more remote, i.e. more competative for resources..

    • @charlessalmond7076
      @charlessalmond7076 2 года назад

      I do. I live at the foothills of the "Blue Ridge". If I ever have to bug out it will be to family property deeper in the mountains. Same geography, same resources, a little more severe weather wise.(not much).
