    It doesn't have to feel and look like animal hide. What really matters as the flexibility, durability, strength, that remains unmatched by other materials. It takes time but now is the time to start. Once mother's and father's start handing down these products to their sons and daughters then it has proven itself as a better material than an animal hide. It will be pointless to pretend to be an inferior material.

    Fabulous. I love this, mushrooms grow so easily and everywhere. Set the cows free, seeing those sad faces and crowded pens is heartbreaking.

      But they don’t want the cows set free. They want less of them because they claim cows are part of the problem. So roaming free and growing in a happy population isn’t part of their plan 🐮

      Nobody grows cows for leather.
      It's a byproduct that would be thrown away if leather companies didn't pay for it.
      I get the humanitarian argument for fake fur or something but all this mushroom stuff is gonna do is maybe bring down the price of an otherwise waste byproduct.

    3:30 If it can integrate composite mix, like the Kevlar, wiring, enmeshed with gold thread, then it means it has OTHER potentials. Mycelium leather bag with integrated electronics for theft protection like tracking, electronic tracking, or, leather jacket that can have integrated electric resistance heater(stainless steel, carbon fibre), then jacket or even seats can incorporate it. Or even building materials.

    Mostly used animal hide is cow hide. How many cows are slaughtered globally for meat p/y? I don't know but it must be a lot. People all over the world need to agree not to eat beef meat in order for the benefits of mushroom leather to kick in. The primary point is not to "save" the cows but to reduce green house gas emissions. It's a nice thought but will McDonalds cut back slaughtering cows? We are talking about a lot of cow hide, what do we do with them?

    How is it plant-based, as she says, if it’s made from fungus? Fungi are not plants.

      Hmm I would hope it would be cheaper than animal leather. But my guess is that before they learn how to efficiently mass produce mushroom leather, it’ll probably be more expensive

    This is great, and I hope the trend continues. We must find alternatives to using animals for food and products. It’s cruel and it’s ruining the rainforests.

    All well and good, but the story misses the point. Cows are raised for meat first as a primary product. The leather is a secondary product. So, just throwing away the cow skin for mushroom leather doesn't influence carbon emissions. Not solving the problem just cashing in on a feel good story.

    • @deschepticon
      @deschepticon 2 года назад +1

      I think it’s a part of the solution. Yes cows are still consumed for meat but the overall profit from raising cows goes down if cheaper alternatives become available. If better meat alternatives (which already exist) rise in popularity then there is little reason left to raise as many cows

    Leather mushrooms ? What are we going to do with the real Leather after we eat all the beef 🤔 idk just throw it away ? Smh think about it and I don't know if this is true but I'm sure our Leather in this day and age isn't coming off the backs of wild free roaming animals and is being collected from the cows we are all about to eat so what's the problem ?
