  • This paclitaxel (brand name: Taxol) biosynthesis breakthrough harnessed the power of conversational AI to propose emerging and historical solutions to retrobiosynthesis, engineering microorganisms, top 10 areas of new research, and top 10 challenges for the field based on a 6000+ word AI summary of 10 related articles. For the time it took the author of the manuscript to summarize abstracts of the ten papers, AI performed the task approximately 12x faster, with 10x as many words, and included details across full papers instead of abstracts.
    These findings made AI effectively 120x faster based on an equivalent number of words between methods. The speed-ups complimented state-of-the-art, high quality, and unmodified generative AI responses from ChatGPT-4o, o1-preview, 3.5 Sonnet, and L3.1-405B. Future work will focus on advancing the field of drug synthesis through further incorporations of high volume and complex data afforded by unparalleled AI contextual understanding.
