The Petrovaradin fortress is located on the right bank of the Danube, in Petrovaradin (Novi Sad city). On the site of a previous medieval building, the current fortress was built by Austria between 1692 and 1780 due to the constant threat from the Turks and the proximity of the border with the Ottoman Empire.
