I don't think that Gaster is Sans and Papyrus's brother, I Think he's their father, mainly because it says it that room with that strange machine on a letter to Sans, it says to take good care of your brother, signed "Dad"
Well... I don't know what to say, I remember vividly that there was a note there saying "take good care of your brother" - Dad I think that note may only be there in the genocide run from what I remember actually.
My theory: -Gastor the last Royal Scientist was assigned to remove the barrier before Alpyes, he attempted to modify the game data to remove the barrier. -Gastor himself isn't a bad Man, afterall he did make the core. None of the Royal Scientists say anything bad about him, and the last one says he got a piece of Gastor in his hand. His life was cut short however from the experiment he was doing, which I'm guessing he accidentally corrupted himself in the game files, thus being "spread across time and space". He died in this process -His Ghost can only be found in the modified files, appearing in the hidden room near the waterfall -His physical body remained in the main game but was split into two "incomplete" parts, each with ALOT of one of Gastor's personalities, and the other having NONE of it. Those are the skeletons that randomly appeared in Snowdin Sans and Papyrus -Sans is lazy, Papyrus is outgoing -Sans likes jokes, Papyrus does not -Papyrus is loyal, Sans is not -Sans breaks the 4th wall. Papyrus breaks nothing. -Sans is wide. Papyrus is tall Both like Gastor are named by the Fonts they use in dialogue, have an black/white body, eyes are an floating white dot, and they both work for Asgore. The workshop behind Sans house is Gasters Sans knows your future, intentions, and if you're going down an dangerous path. Hes the only one who uses "Gaster Blaster" in his fight. He can also undo/modify actions during his fight. Theres an Gaster in him alright. Papyrus has this ability... he just doesn't know how to use it Even though its likely Gastor was doing some horrible experiments, I cant blame him as Asgore made him do such things to remove the barrier. Just like Alpyes had to inject monsters with determination. "Remember kids, say SNOW to drugs!"
+DaneJoe That's interesting. Now it looks like both - Gaster and Chara changed after his dark experiment (Secter Entry#17) According to my theory, based on Entry#5 and VHS4,5, Gaster did some experiments on Chara, trying to extract her soul (because he knew, that none other alternative source of power would work). As we know, human, having their soul extracted, don't die. They don't need it to stay alive. And then Chara's dark side of personality began to develop really fast.
+Periculum Magnum According to another comment, behind Sans house in the workshop an note says "take care of your brother -Dad". Im going to adjust my theory slightly. I do believe Gastor accomplished multiple things, with his last attempt being modifying game files Gastor originally lived in Snowdin as the royal scientist at San's house, and used the workshop behind it. His experiments included: -Creating the core: As mentioned by other scientists -Extracting/Researching Chara's Soul: As you said, Gastor must have done some research on Human Souls to conclude that no alternative would work. Alpys later on probably tried to tamper with monster souls by injecting them with Determination, in hopes they would function like human souls -Human creation experiment: Logically, whenever an human child is born, an human soul is created right? Gastor attempted to create humans therefore creating human souls to be used. He created the main base of humans (skeletons) and added his own DNA so it could grow into their own life forms. Instead, the skeletons were brought to life as monsters, which he declared his sons. Named after their dialogue fonts like W.D Gastor himself, and have similar attributes due to the shared DNA (Black/White eyes and body). As they were suddenly created in an lab rather than being born naturally it would explain why other citizens claim "the skeletons just appeared one day" -Modifying game files: His final experiment was to modify the game itself so the barrier doesn't exist at all. He accidentally corrupted his own files, causing himself to be removed from the main game, thus "spreading across time and space". Further more, remember the random call you can get "Hello, is this G..." *wrong number*. You ONLY receive that call within Snowdin, the place Gastor lived
I like this theory, mine is similar. I think Gaster was practicing resurrection with the remains of humans, after his body was shred across space and time, his soul split, entering the two skeletons he was working with, brining them back to life. They wouldn't have Gaster's memories, but Sans might have received his powers this way.
In a way, based on a silly headcanon, I'm more leaning to the idea that Gaster is Sans and Papyrus's dad... That would explain why Sans seems obsessed with making Papyrus happy and keeping him satisfied, working multiple jobs as it is hinted and well going full crazy and almost raging if you kill Papyrus. They lost their father, and Sans wants to let Papyrus live an optimistic and happy life without worrying about what they need, and Papyrus - being of a childish baby-brother mentality not understanding everything his brother really does. Not to mention losing the only family left can make anyone go berserk. Also the fact that the key to the workshop is in Sans's room - maybe Sans, being aware of the timelines and remembering Gaster clearly, is trying to find a way to bring Gaster back, holding onto hope that he isn't dead, infact being almost positive he isn't! Though the machine is in disrepair, and when saving Sans in the final battle he says "Just give up, like I did"... Maybe he gave up at some point. He became tired juggling work, babysitting, royal guard shenanigans, and all else, then needing to decipher windings to understand Gasters science stuff to fix the machine, and he can't even ask for help on it coz all traces of Gaster are gone. No recollection of it. Thus he gave up, realizing that until he can get atleast some things off his head he will not be able to do anything about Gaster. Also how in the ending, instead of following everyone outside, he runs back in, as if he now realizes he will have more time to work on bringing back Gaster. It's just a theory on my part though.
KrikaGamerLog my only question is how would sans know about beyond time? like its reasonable gaster would when he got spread throughout time. unless gaster knew about beyond time before he died and he taught sans what he knew
Saying no to the fallen child during the genocide ending will make the... "child" look melted and scarred, similar to the appearance of Gaster. Pretty creepy, huh? I also got the "wrong number" guy on the phone when I played the first time. It didn't make any sense to me at the time. I just thought the game was trying TOO HARD to be funny. Guess I shouldn't be so quick to judge.
+Bidmartinlo I only recently saw this ending since I didn't ever play on the genocide route. The sad thing is, while the genocide route is horrifying, you do learn some interesting things about Undertale's universe that you can't learn in Pacifist. And vice versa, of course. Thanks for mentioning the similarities between those faces though. I think there's something more to that. Time to theorize...
I got that phone call once... I don't know why, but I just did. That call brought me here, and I personally believe that Gaster is Papyrus and Sans's father. That would tie in better with the letter on that strange machine directed to Sans. It was signed by "Dad".
Note thag Gaster is AN EASTER EGG. Toby stated that it was a scrapped character due to the fact that monster soul wouldnt exist after a few seconds after death but gaster is. (if you are saying asriel's soul is there, flowey(you would know already in the true pacifist run) also said that it experienced soul fusion. But gaster's soul is spreaded across so it will be a very big plot twist and not very fitting to the game so that's why its scrapped
Okay, I've been seeing a whole lot of people saying (err, theorising) that Sans and Papyrus are two halves of Gaster. And... Ughhhh. I really, really, REALLY don't believe that to be so. I think they might have known him---especially Sans, who is clearly a scientist and used the gasterblasters, but not that they are the two halves that make up him. They may be very contrasting: Sans hating himself, Papyrus loving himself, Sans being lazy and basically having given up, Papyrus being extremely motivated to achieve his goals, Sans wearing mostly blue, Papyrus wearing mostly red... But this is just an example of good character-writing by use of foils. Their relationship is too brotherly and clearly that of two separate people for them to be the same person. It would be faulty storywriting to make two dynamic characters and then later reveal they're one person, at least in the way Toby would have to do it with Sans and Papyrus.
If Gaster's soul split after his death and entered two skeletons, they would be their own individuals, without retaining Gaster's memories. If Sans discovered the truth of his existence, that could cause him to change his outlook of their world. He can break the 4th wall, he has the ability to recall timelines, and this could also account for him seeming lazy: he knows the timeline can be reset if something goes wrong. That knowledge would have given him the determination to perfect his skills, which is why he is such a difficult boss, despite having 1 attack and 1 defense. Once he did, he could just relax. It's not until Chara appears that he has to really take his role as a Boss seriously. Or he was the only one to gain Gaster's soul, and decided that he didn't want to be alone, and found a way to bring Papyrus to life, which could explain why Papyrus doesn't have an asterisk next to his lines, and why he is very child like.
I have a theory Gaster is sans from a genocide run in which he is able to stop Chara/Frisk and absorb their soul. he then trys to fix his time machine so he could take asgore and any other survivors to na better timeline but he fails and kills everybody but him who is sent way back before frisk/chara could destroy everyone. With Chara's soul he becomes more and more corrupt and his hate towards humans grows stronger. He trys building a monster to destroy humanity and also creates the CORE. he adopts the name gaster because sans already existed in that timeline. I beleve he might have recruited sans as some sort of assistant. Younger sans found the time machine and trys to repair it. Once he trys to turn it on, it explodes giving sans his powers and sending Gasper through time and space not to be seen ever again...
Like this * and all the characters begin there sentences with it. Besides papyrus. This could be gaster listening because it says he can hear us always and * is a gaster font
I believe that when Gaster had the accident with the machine (or fell into the core?) he split himself to two characters: Sans and Papyrus -Gaster suddently dissapeared one day -Sans and Papyrus suddently appeared one day Some people say that Sans is a kind of "Scout", looking for humans, checking if they are dangerous or sth, this way, the Gray NPC's quote "he is listening" would make sense Maybe, Frisk recognized Gaster as Sans in the photograph at the hidden lab (Some bad english? sorry about that)
+NicolaSnake98 A few of you guys have mentioned this theory of Sans and Papyrus being a split with the whole being Gaster himself. The more I hear this theory, the more it intrigues me and makes a lot of sense. Might even do a future video on it. Thanks for your thoughts, guys.
I think Gaster would be more likely to have been Sans and Papyrus' father than their brother, so he would teach Sans about some of his experiments, while Papyrus may have been more interested in the idea of science than really learning about it. I think one theory was that pieces of Gaster were spread across time and space, which fits in with Sans being aware of the different timelines.
+Pikmin Quack Yup. Those theories make tons of sense too, and definitely fit with what goes on. I like to view it as one very likely interpretation of who Gaster was. Some have mentioned a note saying to Sans that he needs to take good care of his brother, and it's signed Father while being written in Wingdings, but I've never actually seen physical proof of this before.
I was in the shower, listening to Hollywood Undead, thinking. Gaster was the scientist of the kingdom, meaning that, without a doubt, he was extremely involved in determination research. I HIGHLY doubt Alphys actually discovered determination on her own, she probably just found whatever research was strewn about the place that still exists due to scattered memories infused with determination, or some shit. Gaster is a bad guy in my theory. He had 2 sons and he needed test subjects, LIVE test subjects. The experiments were mixed in their results. Papyrus (NYE-HE-HE-HE), did not seem to react at all to the determination being introduced to his soul/body, except for a change in behaviour, such as the undying will to become great/be everyone's friend. The second test subject was a revolutionary success! Sans (the comic) reacted to the determination in an incredible way, he gained amazing abilities; teleportation, hightened awareness to fluxuations in time (if caused by another 'determined' being) and incredible power in his attacks. This second test subject was such a success that it gave Gaster more confidence in his testing, so much that he might even use himself as a subject. While developing a machine to replicate Sans' results in all subjects (all probably meaning gaster and only gaster) he fucked up, majorly. spread across space and time, because of determination, Gaster was 'erased'. But what about 2 little creatures pumped full of determination, they, as they are the result of Gaster and their unnamed mother, should have been erased too. The determination in their systems kept them within reality. I would say, as a guess, the determination in his sons, or rather his sons' memories (maybe even a tad of determination gaster injected into himself) kept gaster within existence, as barely more than consciousness.
I have the start of a theory that Gaster IS undertale itself. Basically I place most of it on the followers words. One of them says that he is holding a piece of Gaster and another one said that he shouldnt talk about someone who is listening. But you and him are the only visible characters on the screen or frame, whatever you want to call it. Also they say he was scattered through time and space which means that he is everywhere on every timeline. That might explain the resetting feature. I have incomplete supporting parts and other stuff to tell of his life but as of know I still have to come up with them. Anyway I hope at least this theory isn't so bad that its laughable.
......Is it weird that I think Sans and Papyrus are pieces of Gaster? There is very subtle evidence (like how Gaster exists across time, so he should know about different timelines, and Sans knows about different timelines) for this but it just kinda makes sense, with the theme of his character and such.
+Alicia Zhi Maybe Gaster is the amalgamate of Papyrus and Sans due to injection of determination on a experiment? maybe thats what failed? or is confirmed that the time machine that Sanshave, ripped Gaster from time and space?
To be honest in my opinion W.D Gaster is a split into two leading up to the skeletons Papyrus and Sans...though Sans is the one that is more mature and calm like Gaster, Papyrus is has the height and the facial features more similar to Gaster as well. Also here is another thing Sans, weapon blasters are called "Gaster Blasters" not only that, it seems he is more understanding of the symbols and text language that Gaster wrote down if you manage to speak to Sans three times in the judgement hall in the Pacifist route in order to get his room key to unlock his room and a secret room behind the Skeleton's house.(Forgive me if i spoiled it) Also if you see the blueprints it speaks in the same text Gaster speaks and a time machine. So in my case his physical form is broken but his soul split into two. One that remembers and the other that is adventuring forth to discover and learn new things.
This face in the Gaster Attack could very well represent how his brothers remember him. Maybe stuck between time and space had different side effect than we thought, maybe the people didn't forget about him, rather they all remember him differently physically and mentally.
What’s very weird is, even after getting a ton of references and things related to him in Deltarune (probably gonna get more in the later chapters).... We still barely know anything about him and still have some things that we are not sure about. Really interesting.
My theory is that Ghaster was trying to find a way to control space and time. Maybe to time travel similar how the player can jump back and fourth through loading files. Or he was just trying to get power to take over the world. Or create more spooky scary skeletons.
Some people also say that Gaster is the father of Sans and Papyrus but I don't know. But I did watch a few other videos on Gaster and I thought (and I'm sure other people have too) what if Flowey had something to do with Gaster's "accident"? I remember Flowey saying something about how he would mess around with the timeline and he eventually grew bored of doing it. If Flowey was changing things in the timeline, maybe he did something that then resulted in Gaster's accident.
We know exactly what triggers the wrong number song. flag[5] must be less than or equal to 38 (so it happens with 38% probability). Also there is more evidence that Gaster is in fact the third skeleton brother (and not their father, etc.). Check sans' post on the official Undertale blog.
+KinataKnight What if the phrase "it’s rude to talk about people that are listening, right?" is a saying that everyone knows in undertale? Like a common thing to say as "The pen is mightier then the sword!"?
Maybe Gaster created the "Reset" thing that only Flowey and Frisk has. And since Gaster is related to Papyrus and Sans in a way (which I think Gaster is their dad), maybe Gaster let Sans (since he is mature) have some of that power. That power being his abilty to keep his memories after a reset.
I have a small theorie, When riding on the boat they it says : Beware of the man who speaks in hands. Wingdings But also consider the fact they say he is everywhere, so think about it, Wingdings and he is everywhere. Think about the hands in wingdings, since he's everywhere, it could mean he's been following us the whole entire time! But yeah like I said this just a small theory...
+The Offical Rimmed Potato King I changed my steam name to THE GREAT PAPYRUS once and my electricity went out when I hit enter. I'd be much more scared if it wasn't PAPYRUS.
Here's the thing that interests me the most: if Toby Fox really decided not to put Gaster in the game because he was rushed for time to release it, he could have just as easily removed the files involving him and changed the names of sans' weapons. A part of me wants to believe that a Gaster battle or something like that exists within the game and can be achieved through hacking the game enough (considering the things about Gaster that can already be found through hacking and the message they put for the error ending that ends with "but most likely you've reached this ending because you're a dirty hacker" showing that Toby Fox put actual effort into the files that can only be achieved through hacking, further supporting the possibility of such a fight hidden deeper within) but my guess is that Gaster is there just to be a mystery that players can gander at as we all do
It's a fun mystery, that's for sure. Lately it seems finds discovered by data mining are getting fewer and fewer, but that'd be cool if something like that was found.
+Romeo Fain Let's add to it with the Dog Residue, an item that can multiply but also disappear from your inventory. And Gaster is everywhere but nowhere at once... DUN DUN DUN.
I guess the biggest question I have that I haven't seen anyone look at is what is the core? The core creates all the power in the underground but how it does that is never explained which interests me and as follow up, Gaster was stretched across space and time as a result of falling into the core so I feel the core and the information we lack on it probably helps explain how Gaster became what he did
In the final fight with Sans, we 'snores' with the 'Aster' font, and people say that W.D. Gaster stands for Wind Dings Aster... Either way, Sans isn't supposed to speak in another font... Weird.
Wait, so if it is true that everybody forgot about Gaster after his accident, and if he is a skeleton brother, maybe they forgot about Sans and Papyrus too? Think about it, an NPC in Snowdin tells us that the wacky skeletons just kind of showed up, which is weird. Perhaps even Papyrus forgot, that's why he's so careless and happy, when we've seen darker layers in Sans. That would also explain why the photograph and the blueprints are hidden somewhere where presumably Papyrus doesn't have access to. Perhaps is was because of his mysterious power (the eye thing and the Gaster weapon) that Sans did not forget Gaster, or that in some way (perhaps with the machine in the basement), Sans was given this power by Gaster, and kept it in order to maybe... give powers to papyrus or somebody else too? OR maybe sans already had the power, and Gaster tried to get it by inventing something that could give it to him, but it ended up killing him? Am I going too deep? Does this actually make any sense?
It makes sense. What we know for almost certain, from what the game shows us, is that Sans seems connected to Gaster, and very likely has knowledge of him.
heres another thing that hints at gaster being related to papyrus and sans: sans's name is supposed to represent comic sans which is a font, sans also talks in that font, for papyrus the same story the font he talks in is the font ''papyrus'' and so w. d. gaster (wing ding) talks in the wingding font
I don't think Gaster is Sans and Papyrus's brother, but their father, I mean, he's much taller then both of them, And he looks and sounds very mature, specially because he's a scientist
When I played the game for the first time, that stranger called to me about the G...... only the stranger was papyrus... Was it a glitch? orr relationship between them confirmed?
What if Gaster was easily accessible already? What if, and this is just a guess, the mystery sprite is what is below the cloak of the guy in the boat. The sprites do have a similar shape after all. Considering his name does tie in with the fonts he still has to have something in common. This is where the popular theory of the multiple fragments of its soul comes in. Papyrus and Sans are fragments of Gaster. They suddenly appeared (although some can argue they always lived near the core before). The mystery man on the boat (or on the cat) can be another fragment. The problem is that they can't recall they are him. They didn't inherit his memories. They became separate entities over time. The grey monsters, I'm just gonna assume, are dead monsters. They're either characters you've seen before used by Gaster to communicate to you, or, what I believe could be the truth, the fourth and last part of Gaster, the real consciousness that is Gaster, has revived their souls. Please hear me out. How could he have done it? The monster souls disband pretty easily, don't they? And yes, you are correct about that. Nonetheless, Gaster became unwillingly spread across time and space. Doesn't that mean that the real consciousness of Gaster is beyond that and thus can glue their souls together before they disappear from existence, like determination did during the true pacifist route to the human soul. He is most likely the entity that has set this thing all in motion. He used you, Frisk, as a puppet, yet another entity, which he finally could make human after those 3 other attempts (Mystery Man a.k.a. reviving himself, Papyrus, Sans). However, he failed to do one thing, put his will over the human's determination. This is where the player comes in. He ruined Gaster's plan to break the barrier and safe monsters from an eternal life in the undergrounds. Of course there are some flaws with this theory and I'm willing to revise some of it, work out how close this could be to the truth. I just came up with it on the spot right now, so any suggestion toward disproving this theory are welcome. And more supporting evidence would be great as well.
+SuperGeneralCrazy What it comes down to is how helpless Gaster is. The way his followers speak, it seems like Gaster is unable to change the course of anything, even in the state he's in now; only able to see and hear people, but everybody's forgotten about him. So him being capable of doing these things would go further than that. But then again, his soul could be fragmented into multiple beings, such as Sans and Papyrus, like you mentioned. He has no control over their actions, but it seems like Sans could be close to piecing something together. If the time machine in his basement is anything to go off of, it's possible he's been experimenting.
Is anyone gonna talk about how if you try to name your character "Gaster," it does nothing but hard reset the game? Like, no funny dialogue or anything like naming your character "Frisk" or "ASGORE." It just... resets.
when the npc says "whats that creepy thing smiling behind you?" couldnt that be flowey? i know he/she could of sayd flower but that would just make a bit to ovbious
It's possible. Due to it being one of those cut NPCs, however, it's likely Gaster related. Fits in with his whole thing of being there yet not being there.
The sprite named misterius_man took by the comunity as gaster, is black with white details, which means that it wont be easy to see him in the combat screen. all the other characters are white with black details, thats make them easy to distinguish. The point of this is that it wont be possible to fight gaster because his sprite is hard to see in the combat screen.
I had a thought today that made a hell of a load of sense. What if there is a Cult of Gaster? I mean, no 'normal' person/monster will just have followers. I played around with the idea and figured out that these monsters must believe that W.D. Gaster is a divine entity and will follow him to gain these ablities through a solitary lifestyle similar to Gaster's daily struggles being around people that cant see or remember him. Plus, as stated, you have to edit data values in the game files to see him, as Undertale plays with the SAVE feature, I see this as Frisk honing his/her mind to see him. Good day :)
I did in my playthrough, forgot to mention it in the video, but along with "the man who speaks in hands", this also seems to be referring to Gaster. Potentially.
+Chat-Mort Shortly around the time the other followers were discovered. The armless-monster-kid follower is one of the more mysterious ones too, by the simple fact that you can interact with him in a few different ways, and he eventually says some things before disappearing; very different behavior from the other followers. There's various theories about him in particular.
The telephonecall is triggered by the fun-value. And most of the things that are getting triggered by the fun-value are Gasterstuff. So, we can be pretty sure, that G is Gaster.
Ive gathered info and come to the conclusion of this: Gaster and Sans were scientists, Gaster being the royal scientist. Sans and Gaster worked on Gaster Blasters but mostly time travel. Gasters death to me is either falling into the core or being lost in the time and space continuum. After Gaster's death Alphys became the royal scientist.
I thought it was strange.... No youtuber i watched found Note 17, I looked it up, no where to be found, than someone on hangouts told me they found 17, and said weird stuff like this. Then they named their character Gaster and studied what happened differently, So i looked more into it. Then they told me the Message was in weird font, and sent a picture of it to me, and said i think this is W.D. Gaster. I could tell, speaking that It was in Wing Dings font. I just thought i would say that. Also a few people caught the River person saying that, most of them were confused, i asked my friend about it, annnd thats what happened. Thats how i got here :P Sorry i wanted to post this
Haha, no apology necessary, those are interesting finds. And yes, entry 17 does exist, but just like all other Gaster related things, it wasn't in the full game, only in datamined files. The entry itself was written in wingdings, implying Gaster wrote it.
Omg Gaster if the g is removed an u add isk at the end it spells asterisk an papyrus has none in his dialog? maybe capped words within the asterisk is a clue? also during some of the gameplay there are wing dings on the map layouts? i took puzzle course after reading a novel digital fortress, an this games has some of the same aspects...
+Whole_Revolution also the riddle for gaster always being there but never exist is an asterisk to the players, he is always there but no one notice? also papyrus is the only one character without an asterisk?
I comment on too many videos... So, when people say, "Oh, yeah, Gaster spread himself all over time and space on purpose." (Yes, my friends DO say that.) I say to myself, "well, Gaster didn't do it on purpose, he accidentally did." I get confused. Also, when I hear that, it offsets me, somehow...
I think that Gaster is not necessarily related but at least there is a connection between Gaster and Sans and Papyrus. And if Gaster actually did horrible experiments then there is a possibility that Sans and Papyrus were in fact, test subjects. That might explain why Sans can bleed.
About the sequel thing, I would rather have a prequel with a bunch of back story and just leave what happens next to the fans. I want cannon back story more than I want to see what happens after you beat the game.
I believe Gaster is there dad that's why he has to holes in his hands he created gaster and then vanished from existence so sans and papyrus didn't remember because they never met gaster
Gaster is an amalgamate that was once a skeleton and father of Papyrus and Sans. He was usually called Dr. W.D Gaster. The W.D stands for Wingdings, is which he speaks in. He was a scientist of the king, but since things went wrong and he died, Alphys took part and made two labs, the human,Frisk/Chara is terrified of him, we don't know why. Others say that Gaster speaks in hands, people say he doesn't, Gasters wife (Or Sans and papyrus' mother) died way before that, when the war was there,Not the world war II or War I. The war of humans and monsters. She died of a human, stabbing her with hope. Since then, they were casted underground.
gaster threw himself in the core as Suicide, but the all powerful "determination" sort of saved him. instead of a "save point", he watches your game play. papyrus didn't care for science, but when pap heard that gaster was killing himself, he came RUNNING! just in time to see it. that's why you can't speak to pap in the core. and sans is more powerful the OP. that possibly fits in that "he's sans and paps dad" theory. welp, that's a theory.
What if..... Gaster was a reference to God? I mean, just listen, it's almost just like god. To some, he doesn't exist at all, but to others he does. I mean sure there isn't any theory supporting that God fell into a core like structure and is "shattered across space and time" like Gaster, but still. There's a similarity.
Think you got the wrong idea about them being removed. Gaster is a whole other plot-line that the Dev' is still following, he still has plans for it and such, I think. (I hope.) ... I mean, I'm not sure. ;-;
I think I know why that atack of Sans is called Gaster blaster, the skulls look like that matel skull in the true lab. Maby that skull blasted Gaster into the core and maby that inspiered Sans to make an atack that was named after Gaster. But it could also be that the metalic skull was ment to harnes Sans atack to make it more powerfull it was probebly against Sans his will and he blasted Gaster into the core and called that atack Gaster blaster ever sins. This became pritty long, sorry for that.
from videos I've seen where gasters left eye is blue which representing sans and his right eye is orange which represents papyrus. I don't know about you guys but I think that having gaster as the father of papyrus and sans is only logical. so there's my theory.
Just for haha's, I think Gaster is the game.. The reason we're able to play it, reset, save, and load. But then, how is Flowey able to do those things...?
what if undertale would be a pre sequel and you meet gaster before he "spreads" and dies you could be another human or your previous human from the first game andalphys created a time travel machine that would be cool
I've gotten the random phone call ever time I true reset. maybe it has something to do with that, but it hasn't happened of pacifist and dear god I'm not sure about genocide run
osamh ali I've already beaten the game 5 times, minus genocide because I'm saving that for last. There really isn't that much to spoil for me. But maybe it would be better for those who haven't played the game yet.
wait I just realized that "sans" in french means "without" maby toby fox chose that because sans looses his brother in the genocide route meaning he without him? I dunno just a theory
the hidden item in workshop is an time machine why is an time machine? well the gaster was trying to make it because gaster wonted to go back in time and stop the war but he fell down to the core and becomed overloaded determination even the crack on his head made him crack hes head really he must hit somethong with head and why sans trying to fix the time machine because he wont to go back to time when the war almost starts and he wonted to fix it but after the war he felled and hes finished but sans also wanted see himself but he cant because that time gaster was alive thats all
maybe Gaster was MADE to be data mined and never talked about every one forgot no one remembers him and people have data mine it is because he was erased from time form space from undertale
There will not be an "undertale 2" but on the Kickstarter page he said that leftover funds will go to extending the world of undertale outside the game.
The wiki theorized that the two brought Gaster's machine elsewhere(the lab behind the house) & sans is trying to bring him back by fixing the machine. Another thing it questions is that the gasterblasters might either be for/made for him or meant to stop him. Given what you said I think I agree with the latter.
+Icyangel10 Same here. And that's an interesting theory about Sans trying to bring him back. The question is, for what? Gaster, if he DOES exist in Undertale's universe, doesn't seem to have any power to do anything, at least as far as we can tell. Or maybe Sans wants his help/to help him, but I can't really see that...
You kind of forgot what you mentioned about Gaster. For one he was the royal scientist so his knowledge would be important just as Alph's, plus sans is likely related to him or at least friends or was very close to him so his connections to Gaster would be another motive
Exactly & sorry if I misread what you typed but that's why I said that you forgot what you mentioned in the video due to how you typed the last reply. Again sorry if I misread or misunderstood that
gaster isnt a good guy because he did bad things well alphys did horrible stuff to i hope that gaster is a good guy in undertale2 but i think gaster is papyrus and sans father
I understand this WAS released Nov. last year but the whole idea that Gaster is brother or farther or creator of sans and PAPYRUS is completely absurd. It rides on so much speculation that even one clue pointing against it can completely disprove it, take for instance the badge that pops up in sans' secret lab upon entering it multiple times. How would that tie into the whole theory? I'm glad that Game Theory made something on this addressing it in their theory, but it has the same problem, too much speculation. I'm not sure if Gaster will ever be explained but I hope it is, also when I find a way to contact Toby Fox/Robert/Radiation I'm spamming of Game Theory's theory of correct.
if Gaster was before Alphys then wouldn't Sans and Papyrus be younger as well also there is a secret text in something like a hacked file I don't know but in the end it says wouldn't you two agree which means that maybe both Sans and Papyrus were there maybe and that they possibly worked with him so since he is related he could most likely be an older sibling or maybe.....a father it's possible
And when Sans gives you the key and you go to his room and you find the machine he could be rebuilding it to bring back his brother or father and he could of inherited the Gaster Blasters and when he says you don't know how hard it is when you fight him it could mean that you don't know how hard it is to loose a father maybe and the picture could be Sans Gaster and the followers and the guy who calls you it's possible
I don't think that Gaster is Sans and Papyrus's brother, I Think he's their father, mainly because it says it that room with that strange machine on a letter to Sans, it says to take good care of your brother, signed "Dad"
This is also a good possibility.
+Imrukii Toa of Fire Uh I've never seen this letter, and I know about Sans' secret room with the machine.
Ugh, it's there, it's in one of the drawers I think.
Imrukii Toa of Fire No, one drawer has a photo, one has a badge, and the other two just result in you looking at the blueprints.
Well... I don't know what to say, I remember vividly that there was a note there saying "take good care of your brother" - Dad
I think that note may only be there in the genocide run from what I remember actually.
My theory:
-Gastor the last Royal Scientist was assigned to remove the barrier before Alpyes, he attempted to modify the game data to remove the barrier.
He died in this process
-His Ghost can only be found in the modified files, appearing in the hidden room near the waterfall
-His physical body remained in the main game but was split into two "incomplete" parts, each with ALOT of one of Gastor's personalities, and the other having NONE of it. Those are the skeletons that randomly appeared in Snowdin
Sans and Papyrus
-Sans is lazy, Papyrus is outgoing
-Sans likes jokes, Papyrus does not
-Papyrus is loyal, Sans is not
-Sans breaks the 4th wall. Papyrus breaks nothing.
-Sans is wide. Papyrus is tall
Both like Gastor are named by the Fonts they use in dialogue, have an black/white body, eyes are an floating white dot, and they both work for Asgore. The workshop behind Sans house is Gasters
Sans knows your future, intentions, and if you're going down an dangerous path. Hes the only one who uses "Gaster Blaster" in his fight. He can also undo/modify actions during his fight. Theres an Gaster in him alright. Papyrus has this ability... he just doesn't know how to use it
Even though its likely Gastor was doing some horrible experiments, I cant blame him as Asgore made him do such things to remove the barrier. Just like Alpyes had to inject monsters with determination. "Remember kids, say SNOW to drugs!"
+DaneJoe That's interesting.
Now it looks like both - Gaster and Chara changed after his dark experiment (Secter Entry#17)
According to my theory, based on Entry#5 and VHS4,5, Gaster did some experiments on Chara, trying to extract her soul (because he knew, that none other alternative source of power would work).
I do believe Gastor accomplished multiple things, with his last attempt being modifying game files
Gastor originally lived in Snowdin as the royal scientist at San's house, and used the workshop behind it. His experiments included:
-Creating the core: As mentioned by other scientists
-Extracting/Researching Chara's Soul: As you said, Gastor must have done some research on Human Souls to conclude that no alternative would work. Alpys later on probably tried to tamper with monster souls by injecting them with Determination, in hopes they would function like human souls
-Human creation experiment: Logically, whenever an human child is born, an human soul is created right? Gastor attempted to create humans therefore creating human souls to be used. He created the main base of humans (skeletons) and added his own DNA so it could grow into their own life forms.
Instead, the skeletons were brought to life as monsters, which he declared his sons. Named after their dialogue fonts like W.D Gastor himself, and have similar attributes due to the shared DNA (Black/White eyes and body).
As they were suddenly created in an lab rather than being born naturally it would explain why other citizens claim "the skeletons just appeared one day"
-Modifying game files: His final experiment was to modify the game itself so the barrier doesn't exist at all.
+KrikaGamerLog You are very close to what my theory is.
Bluerose09 Oh really, it is?
+KrikaGamerLog eh i still like the theory that gaster is a split between sans and papyrus
anita life eh, that theory feels... I dunno weird? For me soo ye
Time to theorize...
shhhhh gaster is dadster shhh let the bone daddy be
YES
i think that too
Yes void dad is tol skel dad
I think he might be Sans and Papyrus' father too
+Jinx Link same
Seeing only hints of Gaster in the game could be a direct reference to how he exists but doesn't.
Precisely!
I got that phone call once... I don't know why, but I just did. That call brought me here, and I personally believe that Gaster is Papyrus and Sans's father. That would tie in better with the letter on that strange machine directed to Sans. It was signed by "Dad".
I agree
Or he was the only one to gain Gaster's soul, and decided that he didn't want to be alone, and found a way to bring Papyrus to life, which could explain why Papyrus doesn't have an asterisk next to his lines, and why he is very child like.
papyrus and sans are created by gaster
Ernestine Clara is that confirmed by Toby?
+BoundbyCronus idk its just a theory
Sounds cool, but I personally think that gaster is a separate entity
+kaitlyn duguay Yeah, I agree.
Aster is also a font.
Like this * and all the characters begin there sentences with it. Besides papyrus. This could be gaster listening because it says he can hear us always and * is a gaster font
+Joseph Cimino lol I think that's a bit too much of a stretch.
Not really if you think about it m8.
Joseph Cimino Yeah it is.
Shuckle the Great Sometimes you gotta explore whats believed impossible to prove possible. No body finds anything by shrugging off things.
That unsettling moment when you realize that all the notes in the true lab weren't alphy's, but gaster's.
It's alphys. It talks about metaton and Undyne is referenced.
Just one note ( which is note 17, and can't be accessed without modifying the game files)is from gaster
All of the true lab notes are written by alphys except the 17th one
+YeahCoolWhatever Actually there is a note 17th of alphys, you can find it after the waterfalls, as sings.
I THINK they worked together at this project.
I believe that when Gaster had the accident with the machine (or fell into the core?) he split himself to two characters: Sans and Papyrus
-Gaster suddently dissapeared one day
-Sans and Papyrus suddently appeared one day
Some people say that Sans is a kind of "Scout", looking for humans, checking if they are dangerous or sth, this way, the Gray NPC's quote "he is listening" would make sense
Maybe, Frisk recognized Gaster as Sans in the photograph at the hidden lab
(Some bad english? sorry about that)
It's okay. I can't speak my own language. .-. Ask my friends
+NicolaSnake98 That's quite interesting.
+VG TI I'd love to see that!

This was mentioned elsewhere here too, and no, it's definitely not weird! Makes a good amount of sense.
Also, when you ask the shopkeeper about Sans and Papyrus, she says they just showed up here one day
Could be another hint.
+Phooka Humes A very good theory. I like it.
This face in the Gaster Attack could very well represent how his brothers remember him. Maybe stuck between time and space had different side effect than we thought, maybe the people didn't forget about him, rather they all remember him differently physically and mentally.
Very possible! Interesting.
I like that first one. But that third one... 5Spoopy3me.
VG TI Yeah! XD
+Random Entity but why maybe for the war so all the monsters can escape that's e most like theory that I can think with your theory
Silverstyle Or to make Spooky scary skeletons.
Good to know! Thank you.
+KinataKnight Link?
+KinataKnight Link?
Smiling Owl undertale.tumblr.com/post/130552032545/important-info
+KinataKnight What if the phrase "it’s rude to talk about people that are listening, right?" is a saying that everyone knows in undertale? Like a common thing to say as "The pen is mightier then the sword!"?
Maybe Gaster created the "Reset" thing that only Flowey and Frisk has. And since Gaster is related to Papyrus and Sans in a way (which I think Gaster is their dad), maybe Gaster let Sans (since he is mature) have some of that power. That power being his abilty to keep his memories after a reset.
toby foxx mentioned wed get something special after the game reaches earning of 14000 dollars he said it was very dark...dark...darker....
+Isaiah Razo Dun dun DUNNN.
+Isaiah Razo can you link me to where he said this
+Seank7 no i dont remeber... where i saw this.
+Seank7 just get all your friends to buy it and find out.
+Seank7 kickstarter
I have a small theorie, When riding on the boat they it says : Beware of the man who speaks in hands.
Wingdings
But also consider the fact they say he is everywhere, so think about it, Wingdings and he is everywhere.
Think about the hands in wingdings, since he's everywhere, it could mean he's been following us the whole entire time! But yeah like I said this just a small theory...
And of course chrome crashes in the middle of watching this.
*shakes fist* GASTERRRRR.
+The Offical Rimmed Potato King I changed my steam name to THE GREAT PAPYRUS once and my electricity went out when I hit enter. I'd be much more scared if it wasn't PAPYRUS.
that's like the name the fallen human easter eggs lol only that is what you expect to happen once you type in gaster
***** but you cannot copyright papyrus since papyrus was a font name long before you existed
Sans not Sarns .-.
A mistake that was fixed in part 3, sorry.
+VG TI its all good, nice theory btw.
Thanks!
+VG TI np
+Eonic Hero I'm working on a theory on my channel, but I currently have no videos due to an uploading bug. I'll get it fixed soon though!
the river guy says "beware the man that speaks in hands" refering to the wing ding font that has hand symbols its a common theory
W.D means white dog
gaster means stomach
white dog stomach
+Romeo Fain Maybe he turned into that little dog that always follows you around everywhere?
+huricane887 MIND- BLOWN
+Romeo Fain Let's add to it with the Dog Residue, an item that can multiply but also disappear from your inventory. And Gaster is everywhere but nowhere at once... DUN DUN DUN.
VG TI I ran out if brains to blow up for that one so I blow up my heart HEART BLOWN
Romeo Fain How about we have a little heart to heart? *laughs in robotic anime like voice*
What we know for almost certain, from what the game shows us, is that Sans seems connected to Gaster, and very likely has knowledge of him.
heres another thing that hints at gaster being related to papyrus and sans: sans's name is supposed to represent comic sans which is a font, sans also talks in that font, for papyrus the same story the font he talks in is the font ''papyrus'' and so w. d. gaster (wing ding) talks in the wingding font
this videos views inceased by 1000 in one second
I don't think Gaster is Sans and Papyrus's brother, but their father, I mean, he's much taller then both of them, And he looks and sounds very mature, specially because he's a scientist
I got the wrong number call, and all I was wondering was: Wait, wat?
GASTER-FUN!-,METER
1885
i'm pretty sure the character is not in the photo
why does it say 'yellow soul' on the left side of screen all of a sudden?
No alphys was the one who was doing the horrible experiments
1 more reference to him the river man/woman says "beware the man who speaks in hands" in wing ding 8 of the character are hands
U know he talked about that? ._.
did he? im sorry i didnt notice :(
When I played the game for the first time, that stranger called to me about the G...... only the stranger was papyrus...
Like, no funny dialogue or anything like naming your character "Frisk" or "ASGORE."
It just... resets.
+Bryan Main Awh man, I completely forgot to mention that in the video. I had planned to too! Thank you for mentioning that.
I don't think Gaster is Sans and Papyrus' brother nor father
when the npc says "whats that creepy thing smiling behind you?" couldnt that be flowey? i know he/she could of sayd flower but that would just make a bit to ovbious
The point of this is that it wont be possible to fight gaster because his sprite is hard to see in the combat screen.
edited background or something
Great theory, however what if instead Gaster was Papyrus's and Sans's Father?
+Chibiwolf Aj Equally as plausible. I like that theory too.
Good day :)
Interesting ideas here. I like.
+VG TI Thanks. :)
So did anyone else get the river person's warning about "The man from the other world?" It seems as if I'm the only one that has gotten that message.
I did in my playthrough, forgot to mention it in the video, but along with "the man who speaks in hands", this also seems to be referring to Gaster. Potentially.
That's fascinating. It also opens another question: What other world?
Hmm. The dimension Gaster is in maybe? He's scattered across time and space, but maybe to him it's like another world.
Dunno, just tossing ideas!
Well. We may never know.
I think it is a refference to deltarune
Don't be rude, He can hear You even in theories videos. . .
When did people discover the Gaster follower armless-kid sprite? I've never seen this information before.
Thanks! That's amazing. I hadn't heard about him.
The telephonecall is triggered by the fun-value.
And most of the things that are getting triggered by the fun-value are Gasterstuff.
So, we can be pretty sure, that G is Gaster.
Ive gathered info and come to the conclusion of this:
Gaster and Sans were scientists, Gaster being the royal scientist. Sans and Gaster worked on Gaster Blasters but mostly time travel.
Gasters death to me is either falling into the core or being lost in the time and space continuum. After Gaster's death Alphys became the royal scientist.
It is the only theory that makes sense to me about Gaster.
P.s I think he created core also
I thought it was strange.... Thats how i got here :P
Sorry i wanted to post this
Haha, no apology necessary, those are interesting finds. And yes, entry 17 does exist, but just like all other Gaster related things, it wasn't in the full game, only in datamined files.
The entry itself was written in wingdings, implying Gaster wrote it.
+VG TI My friend at first was like "Help me find 17" And im like "I dont know where it is"
also Yaay
I feel dumb apologizing for things like that tbh
I'm pretty sure Gaster is sans and papyrus dad
Omg Gaster if the g is removed an u add isk at the end it spells asterisk an papyrus has none in his dialog? maybe capped words within the asterisk is a clue? also during some of the gameplay there are wing dings on the map layouts? i took puzzle course after reading a novel digital fortress, an this games has some of the same aspects...
+Whole_Revolution also the riddle for gaster always being there but never exist is an asterisk to the players, he is always there but no one notice? also papyrus is the only one character without an asterisk?
+Whole_Revolution that seems very interesting; I think you're on to something..
i love puzzle ever sense i learn about ceaser puzzle code in 1st grade an decided to take courses in the world of puzzle's an riddles... in college...
I thought he was the father of Sans and Papyrus..........
I think that Gaster is not necessarily related but at least there is a connection between Gaster and Sans and Papyrus. And if Gaster actually did horrible experiments then there is a possibility that Sans and Papyrus were in fact, test subjects. That might explain why Sans can bleed.
Gaster is....
My Fathah
About the sequel thing, I would rather have a prequel with a bunch of back story and just leave what happens next to the fans. I want cannon back story more than I want to see what happens after you beat the game.
toby why do you torture us like this
I believe Gaster is there dad that's why he has to holes in his hands he created gaster and then vanished from existence so sans and papyrus didn't remember because they never met gaster
But that's just my theory
Gaster looks like a crying child from fnaf .-.
But much more happy :D D:
No-one:
Nobody:
Not even me:
Not a single living soul:
VG TI: Sawns
S a w n s
VG TI you realize you're just about the only person who says Sawns right?
gaster threw himself in the core as Suicide, but the all powerful "determination" sort of saved him. instead of a "save point", he watches your game play. papyrus didn't care for science, but when pap heard that gaster was killing himself, he came RUNNING! just in time to see it. that's why you can't speak to pap in the core. and sans is more powerful the OP. that possibly fits in that "he's sans and paps dad" theory. welp, that's a theory.
Think you got the wrong idea about them being removed. Gaster is a whole other plot-line that the Dev' is still following, he still has plans for it and such, I think. (I hope.)
... I mean, I'm not sure. ;-;
But then, how is Flowey able to do those things...?
what if undertale would be a pre sequel and you meet gaster before he "spreads" and dies
you could be another human or your previous human from the first game andalphys created a time travel machine
that would be cool
I've gotten the random phone call ever time I true reset. maybe it has something to do with that, but it hasn't happened of pacifist and dear god I'm not sure about genocide run
i did the genoric run theres an easter egg if u add somethin in the game files....thats enough for now....
osamh ali I've already beaten the game 5 times, minus genocide because I'm saving that for last. There really isn't that much to spoil for me.
But maybe it would be better for those who haven't played the game yet.
i had the phone call happen on my first run, which was a pacifist run.
but i did reset the game (truly through my steam files) after accidentally killing toriel... *sniffles*
wait I just realized that "sans" in french means "without" maby toby fox chose that because sans looses his brother in the genocide route meaning he without him? I dunno just a theory
I SWEAR TO GOD...If gaster wasn' intenionally made I WILL SCREAM (MAbye he was? MaByE hE wAsN't)
the hidden item in workshop is an time machine why is an time machine? well the gaster was trying to make it because gaster wonted to go back in time and stop the war but he fell down to the core and becomed overloaded determination even the crack on his head made him crack hes head really he must hit somethong with head and why sans trying to fix the time machine because he wont to go back to time when the war almost starts and he wonted to fix it but after the war he felled and hes finished but sans also wanted see himself but he cant because that time gaster was alive thats all
Maybe he is part of the Hard Mode? Like when you use the name Frisk? Maybe if Toby finishes it Gaster might have a role in it?
When Flower says : " I bet someone like that's watching right now, aren't they...?" I think he might mean the player, not Gaster
maybe Gaster was MADE to be data mined and never talked about every one forgot no one remembers him and people have data mine it is because he was erased from time form space from undertale
There will not be an "undertale 2" but on the Kickstarter page he said that leftover funds will go to extending the world of undertale outside the game.
me: *clicks on video, watches the first three seconds, cowers under the covers." I need to stop watching theories about gaster at night.
OMFG
TURN ON AUTOGENERATED CAPTIONS AND LOOK AT THEM WHEN HE SAY UNDERTALE FOR THE FIRST TIME
Check out gasters theme and then the music that plays against omega flowey when the orange soul is used... Its the same thing at different speeds...
Mentioned both of those things in the video! And you're right, both of those things could tie into that theory.
Exactly & sorry if I misread what you typed but that's why I said that you forgot what you mentioned in the video due to how you typed the last reply. Again sorry if I misread or misunderstood that
It's all good!
gaster isnt a good guy because he did bad things well alphys did horrible stuff to i hope that gaster is a good guy in undertale2 but i think gaster is papyrus and sans father
Wait.... The creepy thing smiling behind you... Flowey is always following you and is always smiling......
Plus I have found out that papyrus and Sans can talk in that way as like talk like Gaster well meaning weird fonts
The game theorists already did a theory about how the weird writing was related to how sans is..........
Watch the video on game theorists.
I prefer the theory of Gaster being Sans and Papyrus's Dad, but that's just mw
who here has heard of dont forget? its a possible sequel to undertale. it fully includes gaster.
Ahh crap I wrote a paragraph again
When he said W.D Gaster and his face appears, I said: "Oh this spooky guy"
Gaster is not a person it is a thought. Gaster is the thought of confusion, because of his strange nature and behavior.
no no no no stop!!!! gaster is not sans's brothe. gaster is sans and papyruses dad if you agree like my coment
if Gaster was before Alphys then wouldn't Sans and Papyrus be younger as well also there is a secret text in something like a hacked file I don't know but in the end it says wouldn't you two agree which means that maybe both Sans and Papyrus were there maybe and that they possibly worked with him so since he is related he could most likely be an older sibling or maybe.....a father it's possible
I think its future sans
I find any thought of Gaster conducting "horrible experiments" preposterous.
Fair enough!
