I suspect that Willem's house is built of photobooks (of houses)
You've done more than just inspire me to shoot, I've started making my own RUclips vids while I got all this time lol, so thank you!
same here!! :)
same same!
I could recognize that house on the cover anywhere but only bc it’s one of Silversun Pickups album covers
Lars Tunbjork - Retrospective. It's a BIG 250+ image book of the photographer's life's work that was put together by his family after his death. I picked it up at a used book store recently and I love it. He has an eye for finding humor and whimsy in the ordinary that I think you'd like.
Love his work so much!
Andrew Phelps used to teach me a photography unit during my exchange programme in Austria! Amazing lecturer and produces beautiful work.
Fred Herzog - Early Color, is one of my favourite books
A goodie!
Todd Hido’s work is amazing
It would be cool if you did a video on self published photobooks from subscribers
Hido pics are on the front of Sillversun Pickup releases. So cool. I didn't know that.
just getting into film, you're my biggest inspiration for sure!
I always feel motivated to go out and take some photos after watching one of your videos but now I gotta save that motivation for later
Glad I’m not the only one with thrifted photo books although I have a closet full of them lol so maybe it is just me 😭
I picked up William Eggleston's Guide from a used bookstore recently, so there's definitely gems out there to be found!
Dave Giordano - detroit nocturne is stunning... Just the realization of my fantasy and taste on night photography
Much needed inspo bomb. More of these Willem!
always love these and your recommendations. Just picked up two new books. One called 'sunday best' which I highly recommend looking into.
songbook is1 of my favs in my collection
Love Songbook and how Alec Soth used the flash to push into the spaces- I also really love Bryan Schutmaat's work, wish I could afford any of his books.
I need to buy some photobooks! Thank you!
The "House Hunting" book looks really interesting, I like the colors a lot.
Thanks for sharing!
the knowledge is always appreciated, great video g
I love your work and what you share! Thank you for the inspiration
I have Todd Hido's Intimate Distance book. That's one is very nice too. House Hunting is so huge, I'd probably get charged an arm and leg to ship it to my country, glad to see the flip through on your channel.
So glad to see another video :)
Hey man, it's 3am here in Manila and I'm watching this. Worth the wait, good sir.
Love that Soth one in particular, I can't wait to be super old and look back at that career arch and have all the young shooters look at him the way I look at the generation before him.
the last books is astonishing, no wonder why its your personal favorite, it looks like similar with your photography styles.
Great video Willem. Definitely have these on my list of to get.
I find such joy in thrifting signed literature, to know that it was meant for someone else and by chance wound its way to you. Dog-eared folds, spilled coffee rings, torn out pages, or even the unopened copy with a stiff spine; all extra layers to project one's sentiments into.
I'm an architecture from Mexico and last year I went to Detroit. That book you showed us really resembles the vibes and ambiance of the city and that is really impressive. Coming from a crowded and densified city like Mexico City, it was really shocking to see a city like Detroit. It amazed me. Of course I'll pick a copy of that photobook! Thank you!
I just started getting into photobooks, so thanks for the recommendations duder
One of my personal favorites is 'My Last Day At Seventeen' by Doug DuBois.
Check out Beneath The Roses by Gregory Crewdson, it’s a beautiful photobook. It was all shot on large format film in the early 2000’s. The photos have a very beautiful atmosphere to them.
Excited for the new Zine !!! Keep up the amazing work
Thank you!! ❤️
First conglatulations for the videos, man. I've started to check them out lately and enjoy the subjects and your approach to it! My book sugestion is definately Thomas Struth Unconscious Places, you can spend weeks traveling around each picture. All the best!
Todd Hido is incredible! Have you heard of 'Pilgrimage' by Annie Leibovitz? It's more focused on her jorney to the places photographed and the thought process behind it, than the actual images. Super interesting and very inspring, in an unusual way, I think.
Just woke up, best way to do it
Love your photo book suggestions!
House Hunting is so iconic. Loved the video man
Yes! I forgot it was Wednesday through all of this. Thank you, and take care!
Notification squad :)) also I always look forward to seeing your videos!
❤️❤️❤️
That Detroit book is so sick as someone from Michigan. The power plant shot at 7:16 I believe is near the Chrysler plant, really cool shot mixing residential with the super industrial past of the city looming over it.
I'd recommend Gregory Crewdson's 'Beneath the Roses' and also the documentary 'Brief Encounters' filmed while shooting the book. It's a fascinating look into the movie set like lengths he goes to to set up shots. Thanks for for the recommendations, I'm definitely picking up a copy of A Detroit Nocturne, beautiful shots!
bloody love the book shows! thank you!
house hunting is a book ive been wanting to get my hands on for a long time!
Thank you Willem! Another great set of photography books. 💕
On another note, I subscribe to a couple photography channels, but you're the only photographer I subscribe to. Thank you for the work you put in for us here, and I just wanted to leave my gratitude here.
Thanks again, and stay safe out there.
P.S. Have you heard of Patrick Joust? I reckon you would dig his work. I definitely do. 👍
Vivian Maier, The Color Work is one of my favorite phonebooks.
That Higley book is *such* a good find!
Just discovered your channel and I'm very glad I did! I watched your video shooting the Mamiya 645, very informative and great shots! Look forward to following and discovering more of your work and your videos. Off to find you on IG now!
I have recomendation: Michael Levin - Zebrato, beautiful black and white photography with dreamy vibes
I’ve found quite a few quality photo books at thrifts stores which is the best bc prices for photo books are usually expensive. However thrift stores
the books are very affordable.
Love this!
would highly recommend looking into Graciela Iturbide's work! Amazing!
3:22 the portrait of Kramer omg lol
I also got the newest re-rerun of House Hunting by Hido, and honestly, I was very surprised by how large the book is, but I can very confidently say that the price is justified, and no matter what, it's a work that I think people should experience
Eggleston, Hido, and Maier pretty much wraps it up.
really love your content. very good video.
My book-recommendation would be Stephan Vanfleteren: Portret 1989-2009. Completely different from your own style or preference may be, but a great Flemish portraitist to draw inspiration from.
i love how you found that book at the thrift store, like only you would source that out.. it was waiting for you
these Images are beautiful
Awesome books! I would recommend you to have a look at Chris Killip - In flagrante two, or any other book of his, if you haven't already. Thanks for the video!
Based-off the work you seem to like, i think you'd fall in love with 'Beneath the Roses' by Gregory Crewdson.
Mostly shot in suburbia, very cinematic and stunning large-format photographs. Probably my favourite photographer :)
Can’t wait to get my copy of Walking Svalbard!, because of Willem I’m going to start buying photo books... kinda wish I could have started early enough to get my hands on a copy of America’s Playground, even if it was just a zine :(
while I agree photobooks are really nice to have, especially for studying it multiple times, for me there's nothing better than going to a photo art gallery. Being there and having the big prints with the right lighting in front of you is such a different experience, you immerse yourself in the image.
The Inspiration.
Definitely check out Simpson Kalisher's "The Alienated Photographer" .
True Places by Jack Carnell. Really cool and wacky guy was one of my professors in college.
Ah yes, perfect way to spend a bit of my afternoon 😤
Try Ed Templeton Wayward Cognition
You should check out Blind Spot by Teju Cole. It's a fascinating mix of photos and writing. Very poetic, at times political, and overall makes for a unique experience in viewing an image and having its meaning transformed in front of your eyes as you read the accompanying text. Highly recommend.
Also, I found it pretty cheap in a used bookstore here in Austin ;)
Jeeeze, you and George (negativefeedback) dropped heat on the same day. Thank you good sir!
ahhhh the picture in 4:40 is of the motel from The Florida Project!! had to share because it's my favourite movie and seeing it in Alec Soth's book makes me feel like we are living in such a small world :)
TWO of my favorite photo books of all time are both by Doug DuBois: 1. All the Days and Nights. 2. My Last Day at Seventeen. Stunning observations, shots, and subject matter.
Love Doug Dubois! Although I’ve never seen one of his books 🥺
@@WillemVerb They are readily, and affordably, available on Amazon. Published by Aperture. :)
Great video as always ! Could you do a review on Canon F1 ? I cannot decide between F1 and A1 and i would like you opinion on it :)
I really love what you are doing. I think all your pictures have a unique colour to them and that they all have some kind of story behind. I will like to meet you one day and even make a collaboration or shoot some pictures. I am a film photographer from Montreal mainly street or urban photography. Thanks for you art Willem.
Yo wtf is Willem looking so fresh lately? 😳
(Bro dw I'm wearing socks 😋🤭😁😁😳)
Great video
Francesca Woodman's On Being an Angel is one of my favourite. Check it out.
Songbook🖤
"Forest" by Jitka Hanzlová
lets goooo
These books look great - I need to take some inspiration from photobooks but I don't know where to buy them here in Taiwan. I've just started taking film photography semi-seriously and by that I mean I have been shooting rolls as intentional projects instead of leaving a roll of film in my camera for whenever I want to shoot. I'm currently making videos of my entire rolls of films here on RUclips (regardless of whether I messed up the shots or like the shots). I want to one day make a zine or photobook - for those who have already finished their first books, what do you wish you'd known or taken into consideration?
i've never clicked on a video faster in my life
Willem needs a black beanie sponsorship
Black beanie/Champion hoodie/Carhartt pocket tshirts sponsorship and this man will never have to pay for clothes ever again
What company do you recommend sending my film to for prints?
Hi Willem. A Question, do you know if all the photos in these books are made with analog cameras or are some with digital cameras made?
For the B/W lovers, I'd suggest 'The FIlm' by Ansel Adams. Greatest book to learn about b/w photography and film in general!
Ive been told that my style of photography is reminiscent of Ansel Adams. I did take a lot of influence from him, and realized that Black and White is my style. When I shoot color images I get a lot of great images but nothing that just stands out as truly special.
I CLICKED SO FREAKING FAST
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the cover photo for that first book used by the band Panic Switch? :)
No need to risk going outside when you got photo books and Willem Verbeeck videos to keep you entertained and sane
😤😤😤
Flash frame at 3:13
2:05 correct me if im wrong but i think this photo is a cover of a music album, i dont remember the name of the band tho
Silversun Pickups :)
Is the Todd Hido book the same as the original publication?
I need to send my Nikon F60 for fungus issue but do you think it's a good camera to start with?
I’m not familiar with it 🥺🤷🏻♂️
alec soth is the goat
Have you ever considered experimenting with Polaroid cameras?
Il Ghirri de noialtri
my grandmas house is in one of the books, I live in Higley too, whattttttttttttt?????
Where can I buy photography books?
Does Willem have a different hoodie?.... something I ask myself everyday
What happened to your video about Todd Hido?
