Too many technicalities. They've sacrificed the spirit of the rules for the letter of the rules. The term "your own time" needs to be changed because that's so vague, and delay of game penalties for the same infraction should not stack. Some rules should also be applied only if it gives a player an unfair advantage (the clip shown was obviously not the case).

I believe that if you are not able to stand on the court you shouldn't be playing, also as a form of respect towards your opponent, but in this case Ivashka was a victim of poor umpiring. It literally isn't. It is a commonly used phrase, that means "if you will not be ready for the next point, you will recieve a code violation". Players should know the rules, it is quite a basic knowledge.

Communication is two way after all. The communicator has a certain level of responsibility to ensure some level of diligence is exerted to let the receiver know what I'm trying to say. Umpires should talk to the player's association to disseminate a phrase that I think is important for them to know. Umpires can't assume players will either know what it means or will ASK and clarify. The player in the video completely had zero knowledge of what it meant.

The Ivaska situation is a terrible handling by the umpire and the supervisor. Tennis players take medical time out and sometimes if the doctor feels necessary, the doctor leaves the court with the player to treat him. Sometimes for an injection and sometimes for the massage. They never do it on their time. Here, Ivashka had an apparent diarrhea and with the approval of the doctor, he went to the toilet therefore like other medical problems, this was not a regular toilet break. It was a medical break. What is the difference between going out of the court with the physio to have a massage and going to the toilet with the suggestion of the doctor because you have a diarrhea. Ivashka was totally right about his reaction even with the yelling.
Gotta feel for Ivaskha there. Medical time out for a stomach upset issue, that obviously results in going to the bathroom. Can a doctor stop the player in this case? No. So what can the doctor do? Give an exemption rule that this is a medical case that requires going to the bathroom. And the time shouldn't count as player's own time. To be honest no umpire is consistent with rules in tennis. Supervisors should be given a different name they dont make discussions. Managers/supervisors solve the problem and they don't in tennis so change the name to spectator. If it was Nadal, Djokovic or Federer doing medicals they wouldn't get that treatment of code violations cause they are big names in the game.

Have you ever sat on a chair before? I've umpired 150+ matches in my life. I'm gonna tell you one thing. You can't see shit from the chair. Especially on the center service line and the far long line. That is why there should ALWAYS be line umpires on hard courts. The balls were close, and they are not amateur players. It is really hard to see the ball, and make the calls. On the other hand it is easy to comment when you see the ball from a good angle, sitting in front of the computer without any pressure on you. Also, you can rewind the video. He cannot. I am sorry, but calling him incompetent is straight up ignorant

I know that the players get frustrated when the umpires fuck up, but working on a hard court without line umpires is insanely hard. Would like to hear more of your thoughts, please don't feel attacked by my comments, I am just trying to discuss
@@Squirrel_eater your first and last sentences led me to feel attacked as you put it, i admit. And yes everybody makes mistaked there's no avoiding that. And when you go higher in a profession the scrutiny increases while the margin for error decreases. Of course its difficult to see the ball flying at 100mph without line umpires and hawkeye. I understand your need to defend your profession but i was merely commenting on a point out of context and admittedly it may have been too harsh looking back on but in my defence im not here to write these essay long paragraphs plus i feel the comment was more emotinally driven before it was pragmatic
