I don't get why some companies aren't truckers friendly. Why in the hell don't have enough room in their yard?! I'm not an OTR driver just a Yard goat driver but still. I know how backing up in tight spaces is. 2 thumbs up for all of you OTR truckers out there delivering and have to deal with all this and traffic too.👍👍
Truckers have to be the nicest people every, there so helpful and they care about other truckers, if I see a trucker I will always help no question ask
I use to do flagging for construction every time I seen a tractor trailer I would always get the other side to hold traffic so they didn't have to stop much respect to truck drivers
One nice truck indeed! Thank you for your Service as a Truck Driver. The economy counts on you guys because most of the stuff we have was once on a truck like yours. Stay safe out there! That peterbilt is beeaaauutiful too 😍

I don't mind helping another hand back in. However, as I tell them up front, "I'm not going to give you directions, I'll just motion you that you can keep coming back and will let you know if you're about to hit something."
That is the perfect way to do it. I can't stand to have a non-driver sit back there spinning their hands telling me which way to turn the wheel. Just tell me if I'm about to some friggin' thing.
"Do unto others as you would want done unto you. " something like that lol also, helping someone else out helps to avoid them hitting you which is a plus
I back into these kinds of docks couple times a week I do help out other driver back in if they want help most of the time a driver does want assistance good backing video thanks
I'm still surprised that some company hasn't come out with some type of quick-setup back-up camera mounted to the very top of the door to the trailer itself...then have a good size monitor setup on the dashboard inside the rig! Great job BTW!
Lol, dude, camera monitors in the cab of the tractor have been around for atleast 10 years. Back in 2008 Coca Cola was in the middle of a fleet change where they got rid of alot of there side load trucks and started a system called OFS. We got new single axle 7 speed freightliners with 36 foot lift gate trailers. Every tractor had a monitor and every liftgate 36ftr had a rear mounted camera. Next time you see a coca cola driver delivering to a convenience store, take a look for the camera. The trailers themselves came from Canada and i believe they were designed by fruehaffen (however thats spelled.)
Namely and mainly, most bonehead would figure out how to hack the in-cab and watch porn at 62 mph. Bet. Besides, you can have em if ya want, but, i find backing in with a rear facing camera mess' with the whole right to go left paradoxymoron. Just sayin.

Trying to back up into a hole with not enough room in the front for the tractor to straighten out - so you have to “jackknife it” and flush and snug enough to the plate for the forklift driver to get in and out of your trailer safely - that’s a challenge. GOOD JOB THO 👍🏼 TAKE YOUR TIME and KEEP ON TRUCKIN’
When it comes to backing flatbed into loading docks, backing into dark holes with concrete on both sides leaving 1 inch gap on both sides is a common thing. That loading dock looks pretty easy to get into, never delt with hauling 53 foot reefers though.
When I was driving 5 tonne there was this same kind of dock. Concrete walls on both sides, very dark and you had to back in off of a busy street. It wasn't too bad in my truck but I felt for all the tractor trailers that had to back in there. You'd be holding up traffic thats backed up for blocks and there was no way to open the trailer doors off the street
Just a friendly tip in really tight loss such as this one with minimal room to crank pull way past the hole and try to be centered in the lot than give a very slight angle so that by the time you are in the slot your tandems are past the noise of the next trailer or tractor. It takes practice and patience but in 10 years this is the simplest method I have found that works consistently for your particular scenario.
joe McMillan this is also my preferred method. I learned that way at school. More room for slight corrections minimal oversteer. Ideally. I am far from perfect but working on it lol
Imagine instead of having two backing spots available, you have only one to back into, that makes things even more interesting when a slightest mistake can ruin your day. Yep...that's some joy of trucking we deal time to time. Personally, I think it makes whole lot more sense if they'd ask to drop trailer and park away from it like at Walmart DC. BTW, this place reminds me of a business I delivered in Denver,CO a while back. They should add light fixtures on docks to ease backing.
What a glorious view seen all those trucks. They all look sick as hell😍😍😍 I’m 36 and in March next year I start with Roadmaster in Orlando to take my CDL and is been a struggle looking for some to do for work that I can love to do and, I think I finally found it
If i may ask, why did you slide the tandems at the last portion of backing up? Im entering my last week in cdl school & ive been wondering a bit more when and why i would fiddle with the tandem axle? Thanks
Im like 90%sure i delivered here last week and if its where i think it is, im glad i got to deliver on the other side because that whole front side of the building looked like hell xD
I hated backing into buildings ( not like swift ) until mirror in the shade who knows what's going on back there! Also the only place ever wrecked a door on a trailer 🤬 Was no fault for me. After I walked outside somebody moved a big garbage bin . If 2 inches to left all would have been good. Door hit can can hit wall and bye bye door . The garbage can ended up in same spot that I had walked by. Just a tiny bit of blue paint on door saved my ass and company took full blame!!!
Hated those spots ! Once wrecked a trailer door leaving a short dock with maybe the last 15 feet of trailer inside . I had walked out the door right beside the trailer did some paper work the drive out and crunch. Had trouble trying to figure it out while waiting for mechanic to cut the door off. What had happened was after I walked out side someone moved a garbage in wheels over to clean something got distracted and left bin beside trailer. Door hit bin then bin hit inside of building and bye bye door ! Was just a tiny bit of blue paint on trailer door then figured it out ! Thankfully the company took the blame and paid the cost of damages !
That kind of backing does suck but at least you had a free space to work with. I'd have happily made a mess of getting it in if I had to knowing I had that extra space so I could wiggle and straighten out once I'm in the hole
Scottie d being nosy for the party peeps and helping a fellow JCT driver back in with no problems. Scottie always checking something out for the party peeps
It's called an inside dock my friend and those darn docks I tell ya are very tricky especially when the sun 🌞 is facing you lol. You can't see nothing behind you, sock, trucks, pillers. Nothing!!! Have a great day drivers... Lol 😎 🇺🇸
Inside Dock, YES forgot what to call it at that moment. Had a request to dock the trailer in an inside dock and use a flashlight but my batteries are low. Oh well, always on the lookout for more inside docks to make videos lol
The design of these docks is just ridiculous. You got just enough to position at a very "functional" 5 degree angle. Those SUPER educated college knuckleheads really know how real life works don't they?
The problem is that there is no feedback going to the designers, because truckers will ALWAYS successfully back into the worst situations and who ya gonna complain to? The guys on the docks are morons and don't care! I drove in the NY, NJ, CT region and everything is super difficult, but drivers performed miracles everyday so why change anything.
It's no different this side of the pond either, Here in the UK we have some ludicrous supermarket RDC (regional delivery centres) with a hair width between bays and stacks of pallets and skips (dumpsters) usually in the areas you need to wind off the lock position your tractor unit etc , make a complaint and you are met with "well others drivers manage" poor design and bad house keeping leads to frayed tempers and damage but these idiots don't see it like that
THE absolute WORST dock I ever backed into, was in an almost brand-new building!!! These clowns put the two receiving doors against the far LEFT of the building (think about it) up against the wall of the building!! So a driver would be forced to BLIND it in, with about 9 inches between your open doors and the wall!! BTW this was at a bakery whse. just outside Baltimore!!
Good thing they have good space on each side of the trailer , cus that moment u are at 45 is when u are the most t risk of hitting anything on the right if ur trailer tail is more than 2 feet from the line in that angle
scottied67, while I have never driven truck, I've backed a lot of trailers, and watching your video was very enjoyable. That would scare the bejesus out of me, and you made it look so easy. Nice job sir.
it scared me at first too, after doing it enough times I got pretty good at it but still have to keep the guard up, we are only as good as our last accident.
We use something similar to that yes, Electronic Logging of our time. It is connected to the Electronic Control Module of the commercial vehicle so there will be less chance of tampering. It tracks us via GPS as well. The trailers are typically 53 feet long for dry vans and reefers but there are some that are 48 and 45 feet long especially in the flatbed and tanker side of things.
I know the feeling of backing into a hole....its fun, and I'm being sarcastic. There's a xouple od places I deliver to in my area that are a real challenge. First one is a dock, off a main arterial designed in the 60's for 38 footers with roll up doors. Now we have are the 53 with flapa, which makes doors 10 inches away form trailer...gotta have 1 trailer per 2 doors as it will not make it across the pillar with another one there. The other is at an angle, kinda like what you did in the video, but have about 10inches of clearance on each side. Just glad lines are painted passed the doors so easy to align trailer, but man what a pain. Good job backing this its nice to see helping a fellow driver.
final mile ad at start I did that for a little over a year till we had our usual apartment complex del and install. caused a lower lumbar strain when I was pulling a dual washer dryer combo unit up stairs. working final mile sucked especially when having to do whole kitchen installs into new homes that were still in the proc of being built having to pull side by sides through mud and construction debris.
Hey Scottie, I don't remove the load locks because I'm still moving the load to the dock. They will release them then throw them into your empty and at the guard shack they know you have load locks. Just my thinking brother. Thanks for the video
Yes I see your point. On one level I don't trust them to put the same load locks back in, you know what I mean, they might throw two beat up broken load locks back in, I don't trust them lol
This casey doss from texas u did excellent maneuvering backing up and it was very helpful the guy guiding u back in the whole hope to here from you I also have my cdl and all my endoresments
Isnt thay the Tempe Az safeway? Sometimes it can be a nightmare there. What I do and what is recommended to do is park and check in and you will be served b4 all those in line. I made that in one pull up. But I have seen others struggle and takin out their front bumpers in that curve. You were lucky not to have a truck next to you when backing in.
Yes I found out there is overnight parking on the street, about an hour before appt if not before because so many trucks, creep in the gate and check in.
I have to laugh at this comment. I've been in combat and backed into docks like this. Not comparable. I'd just hate to have to perform a backup like this with someone shooting at me. You might want get out and check for IEDs. See any indicators like lamp cord anyone. Backing like this can be quite simple with practice. It gets much harder with distractions like other vehicles trying to drive around you as you are backing. I always have to empty my bladder if needed before a backing maneuver.
@@rossstevens6165 So have I. The comment was not comparing combat to truck driving. He was comparing "FOCUS." One inch can be catastrophic. Ask a sniper under a helicopter search then do a 90 degree alley dock squared to the dock with no front-cap in the public right-of-way. Do not detach. Brain surgery is the same way... Get one.
The company I used to work for build a dock on the second floor and you have to blind side with 57 foot trailer all the way to the dock and the bad part when is wet from raining you have to get it in one try to the dock door!
that's what it's about people. one help the other. I don't care if you think your all great and wonderful, there are days your mind is just not into it and even the best will screw up ( be man enough to admit it.!) We are all on the same team out there, driver vs all those who try and f... the driver over or blame the driver. If you see a fellow driver just having a rough go at it just put the f"n camera down and help them out for a couple minutes. it will come back to you some day for helping. great to see someone give you a spot on the back up if you asked for it or not. I never would sit in my truck pointing and laughing like an asshole. Nothing lke backing in a container at 2am in a snow storm and wind after an 8hr shit drive.
Sry,I've been offered a helping eye a few times. But I rely on myself. I mean some of these guys drive double team, one calling out what to do,still taking 4/5 times the amount of time needed. (And still not correctly docked) I do appreciate the effort though. In a world where everyone looks out for him/herself it's nice to know some ppl still care about others.
Because drivers should know the size of what they take along for the ride. You can get your trailer in almost every spot if you have any idea of spaces. Been watching a few more of this online idiot drivers. If you're not sure, step out and check. This guy has so much space, dont know what he was wondering about 🤣
Rear cameras on trailers absolutely suck. Better to know the length of your vehicle and how much space you have to work with. I only pull tankers, so I don’t have to ally dock as much. Sometimes times you may need to do this maneuver. They also have lag because of the wireless connection. One guy broke the monitor in the cab because it was blocking part of our view over the passenger side of the hood about a year ago. We just took it out completely because it was useless. I fuel large locomotives for CSXT and Norfolk Southern. We back right up to the engines. I prefer to get out and look if I need to. Even with a camera you still need to get out and look.
Backed my superb chip wagons in the dark last night with no lines to guide me in our yard parked them between two other sets with only about 1 foot of wiggle room either side, brother you had miles of room nice job fella!😧
I have to agree with Darren the other drivers will complain a lot more if you hit their trucks because you didn't want to waste their time by being a little more cautious and take some extra time making sure you straight

That's what I call a real G.O.A.L. Good job.
How would you like to sweep out a trailer with a wisk broom that was full of hay?
Bro you are a professional driver I would have blind sided that dock in my professional years of 43
Go back in at Tootsie Roll in Chicago. When you get parked half of your tractor is in the dark.. It's tons of fun in the snow too!
why did you slide the tandems at the dock? does the trailer dip otherwise when forklifts enter?
Do you have a tachograph system in the US / Canada that monitors your work and driving hours? And how long are the typicsl trailers? 45'?
We use something similar to that yes, Electronic Logging of our time. It is connected to the Electronic Control Module of the commercial vehicle so there will be less chance of tampering. It tracks us via GPS as well. The trailers are typically 53 feet long for dry vans and reefers but there are some that are 48 and 45 feet long especially in the flatbed and tanker side of things.
That’s what’s up truck driver help , we’ll done bro 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Hellva support from one another...
What brands are you delivering to Safeway?
final mile ad at start I did that for a little over a year till we had our usual apartment complex del and install. caused a lower lumbar strain when I was pulling a dual washer dryer combo unit up stairs. working final mile sucked especially when having to do whole kitchen installs into new homes that were still in the proc of being built having to pull side by sides through mud and construction debris.
Hey Scottie, I don't remove the load locks because I'm still moving the load to the dock. They will release them then throw them into your empty and at the guard shack they know you have load locks. Just my thinking brother. Thanks for the video
Yes I see your point. On one level I don't trust them to put the same load locks back in, you know what I mean, they might throw two beat up broken load locks back in, I don't trust them lol
scottied67 I've also had them forget to put them back in when done unloading too.
This casey doss from texas u did excellent maneuvering backing up and it was very helpful the guy guiding u back in the whole hope to here from you I also have my cdl and all my endoresments
Thanks 👍
Good he had someone to spot him
Isnt thay the Tempe Az safeway? Sometimes it can be a nightmare there. What I do and what is recommended to do is park and check in and you will be served b4 all those in line. I made that in one pull up. But I have seen others struggle and takin out their front bumpers in that curve. You were lucky not to have a truck next to you when backing in.
Yes I found out there is overnight parking on the street, about an hour before appt if not before because so many trucks, creep in the gate and check in.
Backing into situations like this and way worse is like being in combat, you are living 100% in the present and alert, any mistake is devastating.

So have I.
Get one.
I suck at backing trailers 🤣 i'd be there all evening 🤣🤣 lmao
The company I used to work for build a dock on the second floor and you have to blind side with 57 foot trailer all the way to the dock and the bad part when is wet from raining you have to get it in one try to the dock door!
Is there something I can specifically watch on the in's and out's of CDL's? I'm trying to work on getting mine.
I do a dock like this everyday. It’s easier at night, because you can see better. You get used to it and it becomes easy.
when I was brand new i had a BLACK HOLE dock under a Giant retail store with major parking lot cross traffic the whole time.... holy crap
Anyone else turning their head trying to see the mirrors?
That's how a professional gets R done. My opinion sir
Oh yea I've been there few times, mostly on the other side of the building. Tempe az
Nice parking, also nice of the guy to spot for you. JCT nice truck
thank you my friend
that's what it's about people. one help the other.
Man you right
Amen for it brother , this is a risky business , everyone trying to fck up our income , so the more we support each other the safest we are.
Lol that’s nice and bright compared to the warehouse I back INSIDE of
How do trailers not have rear cams? Insane.
Scottie I know this is an old video but have a question have you ever thought about a wireless backup camera ? For situations like this might be handy
Don't forget the gold bond foot powder on ...it helps backing ...
Freightliners are the best 😀
Scittie is a true driver I like your videos.
Glad you like them!
Its 2021 and still we wont have back cam behind trailers ?!
Backed my superb chip wagons in the dark last night with no lines to guide me in our yard parked them between two other sets with only about 1 foot of wiggle room either side, brother you had miles of room nice job fella!😧
good job my friend!
Nice job! Only way il park that good is when im playing American Truck Simulator lol
Safeway in LA? Why do u remove the load locks if they do it inside
#1 I don't trust them to put them back in. #2 if they do put them back in I don't trust they put the same ones back in, maybe broken ones.
scottied67 the guy inside the lumper window is a dick huh oh nd it was in Arizona
Nice Video, What type of camera do you use?
Are there many curtain side trucks in USA? Also after you've backed up how do you unload the pallets. Is it by the fork hoist driver
I have to agree with Darren the other drivers will complain a lot more if you hit their trucks because you didn't want to waste their time by being a little more cautious and take some extra time making sure you straight
