- Marvel's Spider-Man is bad.. it's not the worst Spider-Man tv show, well it might be. this series was a chore to watch. I hope you all like the video! Let know your thoughts on the series and your thoughts on the video as well! #spiderman #spidermannowayhome #marvelsspiderman #marvel #mcu

This wasn't trying to tie into the MCU. It was trying to tie into the other Marvel animated series going at the time, Avengers Assemble and Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy
Agrees, but it was more or less trying to promote it. For example:
Peter is in his homemade Suit like in the climax of the movie,
The first villain he fights is Vulture like in homecoming,
The first character he interacts with is Liz Allen,
And while Vulture motivations is different from the movie, it still the same idea which is basically "get revenge on rich guy who screwed me over."
That’s exactly what I was thinking.. the argument could be made that those other series were trying to tie into the mcu or rip them off
@@codycoxx Technically not ripping them off if made by the same company. It was just the characters appearances.
And Hulk: Agents of S.M.A.S.H.
Although all of these shows were trying to be less like the comics and more like the movies.
@@ericbuckner3806
His first villain in general was originally the Vulture
Spider-man freshman year is no longer tied into the MCU. It’s now it’s own thing
Interesting. I’ll be there day one no matter what
I think the biggest example of this show’s failure is it’s complete misunderstanding of the Venom character. This show isn’t the only victim of this in Spider-Man media, but it is by far the worst aggressor as of late to push the misconception that the SYMBIOTE itself is an evil parasite / is venom on its own. Venom is the unique result of Eddie Brock + the symbiote (not just the nameless alien), and those negative emotions are only a result of it’s time spent with Peter (who basically taught the symbiote to become toxic).
I completely agree! Although I’m not a huge fan of having Spider-Man fight venom without there being a host, it’s the host that makes the both of them evil. Having Spider-Man fight the venom without a host multiple times in the series is so frustrating to watch as a fan of both characters.
Ya I did NOT like how they made the symbiote this big bad creature, especially in the final season. He’s supposed to only ever really hate Peter and Carnage at the beginning. And when he’s bonded with Eddie, after the initial spat with Peter, Venom is supposed to want to protect people. Sadly Spectacular didn’t have enough seasons to write that storyline, but even the venom movies and ultimate did it well (despite both of them misunderstanding carnage)
4:34 it was released even shorter than that, ultimate Spider-Man was canceled and ended sometime in 2017 and marvels Spider-Man was released two months after they didnt waste no time rebooting
Cause of Drake Bell drama around the time
Wow I did not know that, but it makes sense with all of the Drake Bell drama. That’s hilarious and a little impressive how fast they did that
Do you know what’s funny ultimate Spider-Man is the one that seems to have a ending or a somewhat good ending it was the only series I believe it did not get canceled
The drake bell drama happened in 2021
i think they said spiderman freshman year is gonna be in another universe and not the mcu anymore. not sure why tho
Please no. The fact that they keep changing so much about that series makes me think it’s gonna be horrible
It's an alternative timeline to the MCU
It's not even titled freshman year anymore it's your friendly neighborhood spider-man
They probably realized that they wouldn’t have any real freedom with the character if they tied it to the MCU, so instead they’re making a show that works as a sort of alternate version of the MCU
Which honestly, seems much more interesting to me
Since, if that show was just an MCU Spider-Man prequel they could only make one short season since Peter didn’t have his powers that long before Stark recruited him in Civil War
Because it’s not canon to the mcu you have characters like daredevil the osborns and doctor strange appearing in the series
Making it a standalone series is way better than being tied to the mcu
The animation team that worked on the two latter Spider-Man series' is Dong Woo. I enjoy their animation and artwork because I was originally familiar with their work on "Dante's Inferno " The Animated Movie. When you see them in chronological order starting with "Ultimate Spider-Man ", you'll appreciate it more.
Dude I love ultimate spider-man. How is Dante’s inferno? I’m about to read it
@@codycoxx I loved the animated version as well. It really does do the book justice! Dante's Inferno the Anime and the book are BOTH classics in my humble opinion! The animated movie came out in 2010; about a year before Ultimate Spider-Man debuted on television. I also thought the Ultimate Spider-Man was the best series since the one that debuted on FOX back in '94!
Awesome!! I’ll have to check it out
This show was good. At least they got the characters right unlike what Sony's doing
•Madame Web
•Morbius
•Kraven.
Plus this show was my introduction to the Jackal and the less well known villains like the Spot or Slide.
My introduction to Spot was in the 90s cartoon
@@jayheadley8061 The first Spiderman cartoon I watched was Ultimate Spiderman. I've only recently seen Spectacular Spiderman when it came to Disney Plus.
I think comparing this show or any other spider-man tv show to what Sony is doing is not an accurate way to compare the forms of media.. All of the Sony stuff is horrible (venom is fun bad) but ever has their own favorite shows. I will say this was the most I’ve seen of the Jackal in any Spider-Man tv show so I will give it props for that
@@codycoxx To be fair, I think this is the only Spider-Man TV show that ever had the Jackal (in full display). We've only had his alter ego in both the 90s cartoon and Spectacular Spider-man.
this was not good
It's strange because I wouldn't say marvels Spider-Man 2017 wasn't bad per say but it's as dull as it's art style
Yea probably made by the same people who made she-ra
That’s honestly a great way to describe it
I would say its bad
I agree. I would say that the story started getting stale halfway through season 2, and the 3rd season wasn't necessary at all.
Ultimate Spider-Man can break the fourth wall. Can 2017 Spider-Man do that?
Nope. That’s why 2017 is a worse character
I thought so.....
The thing with the credit text style is because that’s the style that every disneyXD marvel cartoon between 2012 and 2020 used. And the thing with the changing name of series for third season thing isn’t unique to ultimate Spider-Man too, it goes for every other disneyXD marvel show, like for example avengers assemble became ultron revolution, then it became secret wars and then got renamed again to Black Panther’s Quest.
I think some of the similarities in terms of writing between each show might be due to the writing and production staff largely being a lot of the same people behind ultimate Spider-Man and it being made right after ultimate Spider-Man (work started in 2016, before USM even finished airing)
Fun fact: the reason why Spider-Man knows groot in season 3 is because the same Spider-Man appeared in 2 episodes of the guardians of the galaxy cartoon ruclips.net/video/t_saMnMDWKg/видео.htmlsi=Wc8Ppvytiun3J2rF
27:45 - to be fair, venom in season 2 did directly go after his aunt and his friends so that has to count for something
28:55 - the reason why season 3 has “6 arcs” is because the season was actually released as six 40 minute episodes and then later released as 20 minute episodes
It is the first one to fully show the Science of the Web Shooters with it's Pressure system
That is true! It reminded me of TASM1
Personally, I think the only original unique thing they've ever done in this show was The Superior Spider-Man arc that has never been adapted before this. And they did it in a way that wasn't dragged long like in the comics. Say what you will, but I'll take this over Ultimate Spider-Man, because I feel like that show was a mockery to the Comics with the same name, even if the final season was an improvement.
My only gripe with this show is the way they portrayed the villains, especially, Lizard, Black Cat, Venom and Electro, but not as worse as Spidey and His Amazing Friends. Doc Ock to me is probably the only villain in this show with any character arc as well as development in the second season.
I agree. The villains in this show were horrible. I haven’t read any of the ultimate Spider-Man comics so I don’t have anything to compare the show to
@codycoxx I totally recommend reading that comic. That particular comic series it's what inspired the majority of Spider-Man films and TV shows since the Rami trilogy. The only issue they've ever adapted in the Ultimate Spider-Man TV show was the one where Spider-Man and Wolverine switch bodies.
For the 2017 series, the only things I've spotted that they took inspiration for Ultimate Spider-Man (the comic) were Black Cat's bad luck powers, the accidental comment Harry made about Peter not having a father, and Harry Osborn as the identity of Hobgoblin. Other than that, It's clearly trying to be MCU, Spectacular, TASM and Ultimate all into one. But I think we can all agree, (I don't know what your particular favourite Spider-Man TV show was, but for the majority of hardcore Spider-Man fans) no Spider-Man TV show beats The Spectacular Spider-Man. (in my honest opinion).
Was the ultimate spiderman show’s intent to be like the comics of the same name? Cause if not then I honestly enjoyed the show for what it is.
@dunkboyxd6618 If you like the show, that's totally cool, more power to you, I won't judge you for it. It's just my personal opinion, I think series 3 and 4 was when they actually shine and start to get better in terms of character development. Mostly for Spider-Man and Flash Thompson and possibly MJ and Harry as they try to flesh them out more in series 4.
Spider-Man unlimited was originally going to be Spider-Man 2099 but the Batman beyond show came out and they didn't want people to say they were copying batman beyond even though Spider-Man 2099 comics came out before batman beyond
Idk what you be smokin', fam but MTV Spider-Man was goated.😤
Hey man I didn’t like it at all when I first watched it 😭 I’ll have to check it out again
Ironically, enjoyed the series and this is one of the only few videos I’ve actually seen someone breakdown and I hope one day I can finally rewrite it because that’s what I’m currently doing
Thank you so much!! I hope your rewrite goes well!
This is a rlly well made vid , it needs more views
Thank you so much. Hopefully it’ll gain traction
Mj was always in love with peter but peter doesnt have the balls to ask her out and a girl isnt going to wait until her eggs dryup.
She wants a baby, either peter grows some guts or she's going to who has the guts to ask her out
After being angry to ultimate Spider-Man, I liked this for it not being 4th wall breaking. Did it add anything? No. But at least I wasn't angry when watching it unlike US
Spiderman TNAS was a seriously underrated show, wish it could've continued.
I think the worst part about this is the continuity. This is fully connected into Avengers Assemble and guardians of the Galaxy the animated series which had already crossed over with Ultimate Spider-Man. Avengers assemble however also establishes in flashback to be Earth's Mightiest Heroes Universe which had spectacular spider-man. Meaning that three different Spider-Mans exist within this world.
But as to what it does do special, it's the only show to actually properly adapt The Superior Spider-Man storyline. I think they did a decent job even if it's a little watered down.
Spectacular Spider-Man was not canon to EMH. Original plans was for them to be, but they fell out because of Sony's pressure
@@mawinstallation6626 Yosh said it was canon. It is, just EMH is not canon too Spectacular.
I think the Superior is BY FAR the best part of this series. I’ve watched all 3 of those SM series and AEMH and it just gets so confusing
Great review!:) I've seen a handful of this show and i think its charming but just wasnt really my thing not saying the shows bad just didn't gravitate to it
Thank you! It’s honestly nothing special, if you’re obsessed with spider-man like myself then check it out if not then spend your time doing something else
6:53 ok so Miles always had camo mode and his bio electricity. He always stood out in the beginning run he’s just standing out more now. Also I think miles is the same age as Pete in the show
Very interesting! It makes sense that they’re the same age in the series, but Miles just seems so immature that it made me think he was almost his little cousin with their dynamic
Nothing will ever top Spectacular Spider-Man. I’ve never been so amazed and astounded by a plot twist that I already knew about. Those writers were GASLIGHTING us, I fr thought Norman was innocent
Norman is NEVER innocent. The gaslighting in this show does not hold a candle to how hard it is in Spectacular
And what’s even funny is that the pormo art is way better then the show
Totally agree. The show just looks bland
I'm kind of nostalgic for this Tho...
I’m VERY nostalgic for Ultimate Spider-Man even with its flaws. Like what you like man!
@@codycoxx fr same i grew with ultimate and Marvel
1:06
Now people love ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN 😅
I’m an Ultimate Spider-Man truther
the superior spider-man arc is the only thing i really like about this show, im glad we got to see that comic arc adapted and they even got Dan Slott to help direct that arc
i also like Mary Jane and Peter’s chemistry in the show and his dynamic with Ms Marvel
I heard that this series was in the same universe as ultimate Spider-Man
There’s no way
So the thing is that the Avenger Assemble characters crossed over with Ultimate Spider-Man which also crossed over with Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H but in season they changed the art style in Avengers Assemble they show Spider-Man again but its the 2017 one. It makes no sense and is just very confusing.
I’m Seven minutes into the video and I agree with you especially on the spider people when this show came out I really liked it mainly cuz they had different spidermen but looking back it seems cluttered, I feel like if they wanted multiple spider people I feel like they should have their own dedicated season or arc and what you said about them having the same move set besides miles is so real cuz Peter is not special when you have Anya and Gwen I feel like they could have given them different abilities like in ultimate spider man Ben Riley had Stingers that I believe had venom in them
Exactly! If you are going to have multiple spider-men make them stand out.. especially from the main character!
Just putting a shadow layer would hv made it look 10 times interesting
Totally agree. It felt so flat and most of the storylines fell flat too
It was Vulture, not Jackal as the big bad in Season 2.
I know I misspoke

@@codycoxx your welcome i was looking for some fresh and new marvel content then i saw your video recommendation and saved to watch later and came back 30 minutes later to watch your video great vid
You know what Spiderman TV shows Need?
Original Villains
Like making goofy silly villains like what you'd see as the Flash Villains, BUT have them defeated in one episode an all for them to eventually come back with new powers/abilities and strats, have them being their own thing, also i'd Write the Old Spiderman Villains as some sort of Allies(?) Or at least some of them as Allies, like Flint marco Redeemed and Being a Super hero, Doctor Octavius as the Tech Genious who helps Peter with Gadgets and stuff (so peter doesnt depend on Ironman or someone else), Venom as the Anti Hero Venom we see on the comics nowadays and so
Have the Iconic Villains being not villains
That'd be a nice spin on Spiderman TV shows imo
Also, Original Villains for Spiderman shouldnt be Difficult, just make stuff like idk, GeckoMan a low league Bank Robber from Los Angeles who moved to NY to "Face off Spiderman" just to get arrested and Humiliated by Spiderman, Defeated and Humiliated starts seeing Himself as a Major league Villain, in his crazy trip he makes what he calls "The Gecko" an Alter Ego who's a "Big Bad guy" with "Impressive Tech" but it's a Green Jumpsuit with rudimentary Climbing gear
So through the Series The Gecko evolves and makes his tech actually a Treat for NY and Spiderman
Boom, Spiderman Villain WITHOUT Osborn, WITHOUT Venom, Without someone else's Tech or Backstory
Isnt so difficult, i guess they can also just make up Spiderman Villains without a real Backstory and just have them being there
It’s needs a mix of both, I’d say 75% original and 25% new. As long as they are well written it would work
Spectacular Spider-Man was short, but sweet ultimate Spider-Man was the equivalent of watching paint dry but marvel Spider-Man was the offender because the character designs were boring and the stories were basic
I will agree with you on that but I believe it’s potential got slipped on
Ultimate Spider-Man was amazing
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN TRUTHERS STAND UP
The best part of the series is the animation.
And the animation is horrible
There was no shading
@@codycoxx animation is the way the characters move. You mean the rendering (shading, lighting, etc..). The animation is great, it just needs better rendering.
The most interesting thing to me is the use of Hobgoblin > Green Goblin
Same. It was good to see the hobgoblin used in an interesting way
Season 2 big bad was goblin king/ vulture not jackal
I know, I miss spoke. I made an edit in the video
i love Codycoxx woo
I love you random citizen! (Metro man reference)

As much hate as this series gets. The superior Spider-Man arc was lowkey goated and was way better than the rest of the series. I feel like this series got good right before it was canceled sadly
The superior Spider-Man arc is by far the best part of the series
U made some genuinely good points but some of the stuff u said u was chatting out ur ass the whole copying ultimate Spider-Man thing with the school and rag tag group of friends is just something that happens in so many of peters stories
Soooo this means the MTV one is better right? LFG
I think so yes. I’m going to make a mega video and combine all of my reviews and then re arrange the placement abs explain why. That’ll be out end of the week
