@@hipe8987 Yeah It wasn't really in your face but thry hinted subtly yet clear enougj we can understand . I loved how they reference Monroe here not as a sex symbol but as her true self .
The real meaning of the song is that women's bodies are seen only as a sexual fantasy so especially if you pay attention to the lyrics the song basically wants to say that when I'm nude I'm not a sexual fantasy I am my pure self truly me and my body is beautiful+ soyeon (one of the members) is the producer
Soyeon is such a genius. When Soyeon told about the concept to their ceo, he said "That’s too sexual for a concept" . But then, she said "Okay then here’s a reason to do it"
To further elaborate on Banksy’s part: the statement he wanted to make with that artwork was that people with a lot of money will pay millions to buy art just to use it as a status symbol without seeing the true value of the artwork. In the same way, icons like Marylin Monroe were praised for their beauty but as women they weren’t given value. They weren’t seen for who they are and they were just “there to look pretty”. So the whole idea is that women are often not seen for who they are and people often just want to use them for their desires. Also a little note: that animated character is likely referencing their former member Soojin. The character has a mole under her eye in the exact same spot as Soojin.
The Banksy reference can be taken two ways as well: 1. Capitalising on rat that is meant to send a message about the current state of society therefor devaluing the purpose/message as it’s just become another novelty of consumerism (a rare piece of art being sold to a single person when meant for the masses) which is exactly what you said, perfectly put 2. When the art was shredded, just as replicated in nude, it was the creator disagreeing with the use of their art being looked over and used for the wrong purposes demonstrating the message was lost or missed. The nude woman drawn is also in the style of Jessica Rabbit who was overly sexualised by other men apart from her husband (which is its own story) which may also portray a sense of how they, gidle, want to redefine woman and/or nudity in their field (so k-pop or musical artistry) and take it away from simply trying to please an audience as Jessica Rabbits character design did, you can think of it as fan service, this is ALSO said in the lyrics about how nudity is nakedness but actually the exposed true self Thank you for coming to my rant, I am an English student so trust me to read too much into things 😂👍 (I also just copied and pasted this from a comment I already made)
😭😭😭 the possible reference to Soojin...yoo...as I watched this I was thinking about how she would have fit seamlessly and the possibility that it represents her...
yes it references Soojin, its actually "explained" in the video, check "Nxde" at 1:39 at 4k, the pic where the cartoon is framed, at top corner theres a red heart balloon from TOMBOY, and it has the missing G from I NEVER THE DIE/ I-DLE EDITED to correct the time in the video
@@germanher7528 I NEVER DIE* and yeah they disagreed with being G-idle since one of their members was attacked by false allegations and was removed from their band. The allegations were proven false and they still haven’t added her back as Cube (the company that owns G-Idle) cannot without being open to being sued. So right now it’s suspected he band themself are doin things or asking for things within music videos and their songs themself as Soyeon (The leader of G-idle and also the rapper so fort hose who arnt familiar with her she was the one who was the statue rapping during a segment of the music video) writes all of idles songs herself. So props to her and all the band for not backing down on wrong and rights for another member of their band. For those that care, Soojins doing fine her friend that’s publicly known as her friend that’s not within the kpop industry has said she’s fine on a live and that she’s doing well so hopefully when cube lets up she may come back to the band but until then G-Idle likes to be referred to as idle as they arnt whole without soojin 😊
Yeah and she had to convince company management that this wasn't to risque of a concept as Cube managers were nervous this might get banned from broadcasts. Nice to see that Soyeon stuck to her guns and worked to come up with this gem maybe with a few compromises on visual content. Great video, great meaning.
Everyone forgets that Marylin Monroe wasn't just a sex symbol, but she was so much more than that. She was incredibly intelligent, she had a sense of humor that couldn't be replicated but was literally Stereocasted as the Dumb blonde, fought 1950s Hollywood for better treatment of her fellow female stars, and was 1 of 2 women in Hollywood history to own their own studio.
Marilyn also advocated for Ella Fitzgerald to be able to perform on a popular venue, she was first denied because of her race but Marilyn called the owner and promised to sit at the front table every night Ella performs. And she kept her promise, what a legend!
Soyeon is so smart for this. She’s fighting South Korea’s huge child pornography problem by naming it “nude.” So when that word is searched, the song will pop up first.
fun fact: Soyeon is described as the best girl because (g) idle's nxde, that she wrote. Because a lot of men in korea search aibeul nxde that means children nxde so when they try to search it, (g) idle pops up
umm do you have a source for this or just made it up? because it's true that "ah-i-deul" ( idle ) sounds like the korea word for "the children", but i highly doubt real pxd0s make a google search for cp using " ah-i-deul nxdes", grammatically doesn't make sense and it will alert the police.
this comeback is really conceptually important for kpop for me, I saw not many women empowering songs there, so for kpop this one is literally something, I hope we'll be talking about it longer and pay attention to the message but not stick on the visuals only
I think female idols took less risk lately because there had been a big anti-feminist movement in Korea (the presidential candidate who agreed with that was even elected) so it's good that things continue to evolve, I was worried about Soyeon when Tomboy came out but she didn't care, a queen
@@doremiyeon0131 considering all the members really do love soojin and soyeon especially is involved a lot in yhe creative processes, i think the animation is very obviously supposed to be soojin (it even has the same moles soojin does)

This comeback of them is rlly the most important comeback this year. The Message is just so amazing and I hope everyone can agree that we should be nude like them and just be our selfs
I haven't seen anyone mention this yet but the whole reason they did a video entitled Nxde was because that's what child predators were using as a search term to find CSA videos. But now that search term can't be used because it's flooded with nothing but kpop search results and kpop fan art. So that's why they did a video entitled Nxde to begin with and just built the song and concept around that
The fact that Soyeon actually discussed about this theme personally with company members all the staff were kinda dissatisfied for the extreme sensual agenda but thankfully Soyeon sticking to it got us this masterpiece!😌
There was also another reason why Gi-dle decided to to this song was, the Korean name of the group is "Yeoja Aideul". They are basically referred as Aideul. Aideul also means Children in Korean. So if anyone types "aideul Nxde" on the internet they are straightly directed to Gi-dle music video and other articles of them. This is such a power move from the queens. She recently explained this in an interview.
by far you're the only male reactor who explains and understands the message and concept of the mv. I'm so impressed, thanks for supporting the queens fr
I’m a blink and YG told that Pink Venom is gonna be an expensive MV ever for BP but after seeing Nxde I bet this MV is by far the best MV by Kpop acts ever.
I remember back in 2012 that 4 Minute's "Volume Up" was supposedly one of the most expensive short-form MV's filmed to that point at a budget of about $100k. It still holds up pretty well. This decade has really seen amazing improvements in video productions as technology has improved and as bigger sales have allowed MV budgets to get bigger.
Expensive mv sure but got the same recycled concept of "haters gonna hate me cause they are jealous of me but I'll still slay". I honestly want to see a different concept from bp but i guess it's asking too much as the company would play it safe as possible, "why risk doing a new concept when you can do the same old one but still got amazing acceptance and hype from the audience?"
@@Hope-rd7vm i’m kind of scared that you took all of these influences in the mv and was like “this is just another ‘wanna be myself’ concept” When there is a different concept going on here.. also I don’t see the concept you’re seeing in this mv
nudity is normal, literally when we born, were not babies with clothes like literally also i think that song is so real about embracing women's body's beauty and so sad to see most men seen our bodies as their satisfaction
1:19 I think it should be noted too that while doing this movie, Marylin got into a scandal because of old nude pictures resurfacing, which also caused the movie to change the outfit of this iconic scene from a sexy burlesque outfit to the pink dress we know all. It fits the theme of the song so well.
i love the way you explained that bansky scene and that " NOW I DRAW A LUXURY NUDE" part .. Soyeon made them buy a draw that costs million dollars just to cut it and make them like fools who just want to see nudes... She's a genius. she did the same thing in her rap scene you should read the subtitles when she said I'm sick because they see her as something they can buy with money
In Soyeon's part after the book transition, the lyrics actually said 'Twisted Lorelei don't need no man' which I'm pretty sure is referencing the character Lorelei from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and how (at least in a couple of scenes) she appeared to be highly dependent on men. Thus, Twisted Lorelei doesn't need a man. (I wrote this as I was watching the video so if this is said in the video I apologise)
I'm so happy to see more artists producing music with a message. The generic pop stuff is fun but empty. Hwasa and Mamamoo were the only ladies that really had anything to say for a while there. I'm really glad to see IDLE is going hard with it! "Lion" was another awesome song with a message. We need more of this!

Not only the music, the video and the concept are amazing. Soyeon is a genius. in Korea there is a problem of non-consent female porn (of all ages), they film under the skirts, in a public bathroom, etc. And (g)i-dle's name is very similar to the word children in Korea, so when they search i-dle and/or nude the first thing that will appear is their music. perhaps I did not explain myself very well, i think there is a conference where she explains it better.
There is literally no proof at all that these things occur in Korea more than any other country, i have no clue where you got that news from. Edit: the idle sounding similar to child in Korean is true though
@@ammarahmed4532 it was literally all over the news in around 2018-19 when alot of perpetrators were arrested. There were also tons of SK feminist marching for this exact issue.
Soyeon's genius and talent with these girls' individuality created this MASTERPIECE. G-IDLE just doesn't disappoint. Keep it up, queens! And Jordan, you are amazing! Your video always helps me to better understand stuff like this.
Part of the genius of this song is how it is meant not only as an empowerment to women but also the title “Nxde” serves another purpose too. In Korean, (G)I-DLE is called (여자)아이들romanized as “yeoja ai-deul,” with “ai-deul” having the same pronunciation as “idle” in English. “Ai-deul” means “children” in Korean while “yeoja” means “woman,” so what their name really translates to is “female children.” Though this name has been widely regarded as rather silly, (G)I-DLE are using it to their advantage. Any attempts at searching for “female children nude” will now be filled with the group’s performances, interviews and other promotions.
Things Jordan missed: - Didnt even mention one of the members' names! - Marilyn is one of ex-member Seo Soo Jin's heroines (miss her so much!). - It is theorised that the animated blonde performer is a reference to Soo Jin as it appears to have her facial beauty mark under her left eye. - All members have blonde hair - "Lorelei"/ "Loreley" used in the video is a reference to a singing siren who lured men to their destruction. - The chorus has a modified sample of the theme "Habanera" from Bizet's opera Carmen. - The cone bra worn by Soyeon is a design by Jean-Paul Gaultier made for Madonna's Blonde Ambition tour which started April 1990. (Madonna's was a pink corset design with not as large cones!!) - Yes the shredded artwork is a reference to Banksy who through a piece of peformance art shredded his "Girl with Balloon" piece which had sold for £1million prior to shredding. It was then sold as a piece named "Love is in the Bin" for £18.5million !!
The Lorelei reference is likely also a reference to Marilyn Monroe's character (Lorelei Lee) in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (the same movie the first pink Minnie scenes are an homage to).
The Banksy reference can be taken two ways as well: 1. Capitalising on rat that is meant to send a message about the current state of society therefor devaluing the purpose/message as it’s just become another novelty of consumerism (a rare piece of art being sold to a single person when meant for the masses) 2. When the art was shredded, just as replicated in nude, it was the creator disagreeing with the use of their art being looked over and used for the wrong purposes demonstrating the message was lost or missed. The nude woman drawn is also in the style of Jessica Rabbit who was overly sexualised by other men apart from her husband (which is its own story) which may also portray a sense of how they, gidle, want to redefine woman and/or nudity in their field (so k-pop or musical artistry) and take it away from simply trying to please an audience as Jessica Rabbits character design did, you can think of it as fan service, this is ALSO said in the lyrics about how nudity is nakedness but actually the exposed true self Thank you for coming to my rant, I am an English student so trust me to read too much into things 😂👍
@@dmore Possibly. Its confusing as the captions in the lyrics spell it "Lorelei" as in "twisted Lorelei", but the newspaper graphics spell it "Loreley" which is the German for "Lorelei" . Also "Loreley" is an opera by Catalani based on the German legend. The cover of the original libretto features Loreley as almost mermaid like with flowing hair and nude! (well topless at least, modestly covering her lower torso!!)
Unlike any other group, I am always excited for gidle's comebacks because you just don't know what kind of concept they will bring on the table. And they nail it whatever the concept is. Just amazing!!!!
Okay so, Ahem. Explanation: For those of you who don't know, the animation girl, is actually representating Soojin, a former member of the group (G)i-dle. Soojin was basically kicked out of the group due to scandals, rumors and this video is kinda dedicated to her, this music video and tomboy is without Soojin. The editors really did an amazing job with the animation stuff, Hats off to Soyeon for producing the music very efficiently. The theme Marilyn Monroe is there as the symbol of the song itself as well as, Marilyn Monroe being Soojin's role model. That is quite the reason I used "dedicated to Soojin" for the song..That's all! (These all are just theories, the Soojin dedication, animation....not all can be true...)
More than "Marylin Monroe is a sexy icon" i think that they are trying to communicate how behind someone there is always a person. They are talking about woman, about self respect and about how the society treats woman as object. They literally did for Marylin Monroe a lot more than the movie blonde did. queens
Definitely. After showing the "dumb" and "sexy" front of Marylin with Minnie, they say "as if!" with Yuqi's deep voice. After that it shows Soybean's part featuring Leaves of Grass (this specific book is one that Marylin read irl + the sexual imagery of nudity in this book isn't just for the "sex symbol" but depicted as pure and a connection to nature rather than something dirty + Song Of Myself from LOG is one big example of transcendentalism with it's message of self and individuality) while saying "bookworm obsessed with philosophy" and "self-made woman" is definitely showing another side of Marylin beyond the dumb blonde she was portrayed as. Nudity here is used to refer to physical nudity, but also symbolic showing of the true self (both of (G)I-dle and Monroe) and I love how this fit's (G)I-dle so well, the focus on "G" aka girl aka woman and "I-dle" aka I (plural) aka themselves as individuals.
Honestly (G)idle are so talented and credits to the producer, editor, directors and also soyeon (she also writes the lyrics). I love the dance and the concept they’re always slaying in every comeback.
I like how at the end when they say I’m born nude they say “the pervert is you” or “byeontaeneun neoya” or “변태는 너야”, they all mean the pervert is you, and the pervert is you adds A LOT of character to the meaning of the song
THE SONG WAS ALREADY ICONIC , IDK but the amount of transition and effects this Man showed and told us about the small details where we couldn't pause to look at was AMAZING. You did a great job! ❤️✨😭
Sam Son (@samsonii) is both the director and editor of this M/Vs, that's why it looks amazing. She also done Tomboy for (G)I-DLE as well as NMIXX - Dice and Taeyeon - INVU amongst others.
soyeon is also amazing for this one: in korea, a lot of men search “aideul nxde” which “aideul” means “children”. “aideul” is also the group’s name I-DLE in korean characters, so now when they search it, only I-DLE will pop up :)
This is literally one of my favorite RUclips channels. I'm always excited for Jordan's analysis of mvs, and maybe he can go back and do some older ones that have significance and tell stories like Nxde (like some B.A.P mvs). *_Nxde is a masterpiece_*
fun fact: Soyeon named the song Nxde because creepy old men search about childrens yk so she named it nxde so when they search it (g)i-dle’s song pops up and its hard to find what they are looking for. Best leader, such a genius
loving the recent songs of g-idle honestly. not a kpop fan, but their songs is pretty catcy and nice in a unique way that hey can only make. Its kinda giving me y2k but in music vibes
Soyeon said that she specifically named this song this way because she wanted when people search for their song the internet search engine would only show results about this comeback, leaving behind the other horrible things that some people search for on the internet. This is where I want to add a not minor detail, in Korean (IDLE) it's also translated as child/children. If you type "(IDLE) Nxde" into a Korean search engine, I think you can imagine the unpleasant and dangerous information that can come up. Personally, this blew me away.
watching this 1 year after it's release made me appreciate it more. The fact that Soyeon directed this, dayum. She never fails to amaze me. When she writes a song, she already have images in her head on how to show it through the MV. She's such a genius. I'm forvere in awe of her mind and talent.❤
I love watching these types of videos, cause it's so interesting seeing all sorts of people's input. Like this guy. Or people who dance, or sing...whatever it may be. it just gives me a whole new prospective on the music, like as opposed to my initial reaction. I really enjoy how each person breaks down certain aspects, and show case's parts I wouldn't have noticed originally.. But overall it makes me happy seeing how much they love it, just as much as I do.

She really loved Merlin Monro and girls made a wonderful song that she will like to listen and a mv she will watch Oh, and I am really sorry for my English
GIDLE emphasizing that everyone should be who they are, and be confident and trust themselves for being who they are GIDLE saying everyone will suffer from public gaze and judgement, but what others think about you is just like the shredded art work, some opinions around you should just ignore and keep being your true self Such a song and MV production

As a young Korean director and editor, it seems that the technology in our industry is developing more and more. I've been participated in so many idol music videos, but it seems to be even more so for the past 3 years.
I've been watching and listening to G-idle's Nxde.. 3 or 4 things I noticed. 1. There's an animation of someone who's from their group before: Soojin. She was kick out of the group because of a false accusation relating to bullying. 2. Soojin's favourite actress is Marilyn Monroe. 3. Korean male often search about "Younger Nude", I found that out from a speculation video. cttc. 4. This song is the essence of women's empowerment and how other men often declares that women are no different than a slave, housewife, nobody, and submissive. I love this song so much... that's why I'm all eyes.
there is a theory going around right now that the cartoon character shown throughout the video is soojin an old member but she recently got removed last year. idle misses soojin and apparently soyeon (the rapper of the songs) made a tribute to her because soojin loved marylin (i am typing this in the middle of the video so idk if he went over this yet)
this is the first video that i watched from your channel, and i really appreciated the deep dive into the Nxde video! i was surprised at how hands-on your analysis was too- the newspaper example!🔥 subscribed and thank you for taking the time to make this!
while other idol groups are busy waiting for the agency to make another independent GIdle to make their own songs, because there are members who can make songs
this is the first time i've watched nxde reaction where they focus on transitions of each scene and ive been waiting for anyone to even mention it because theyre awesome and captivating.
Fun fact:One of the reasons Jeon soyeon wrote this song is because many men in korea search "Aibedul nxde" which means children nxde, When they search that now children nxde does not come out but Gidle's song does.
I'm a bit disappointed that you didn't talk about the sexualization/objectification and commercialization of women and their bodies, since that's exactly what I feel they're referencing. They chose Marilyn Monroe not because they want to be sexy like her, but because Marilyn was a brilliant actress who was pushed into this sex symbol which is now the only thing she's remembered by. If you listen to the lyrics more, you'll find that yes they're criticizing judgmental people, but mostly how women have been pushed into these characters who are dumb but sexy (listen to Minnie's line in the beginning). I feel like this way the Banksy reference also makes a lot more sense, since by shredding his painting Banksy was also criticizing commercialization. And the statues in the video also show me how women's bodies have always been "for sale", additionally Soyeon literally being auctioned off. Still love your video, but I was really excited about this reaction because I thought you would catch up on that topic.

Soyeon is the one who planned this tribute to Manilyn Monroe. She created a PowerPoint and contacted and discussed it with the MV director.

She was incredibly intelligent, she had a sense of humor that couldn't be replicated but was literally Stereocasted as the Dumb blonde, fought 1950s Hollywood for better treatment of her fellow female stars, and was 1 of 2 women in Hollywood history to own their own studio.
who's the other woman
Marilyn also advocated for Ella Fitzgerald to be able to perform on a popular venue, she was first denied because of her race but Marilyn called the owner and promised to sit at the front table every night Ella performs. And she kept her promise, what a legend!
Yeah she mentioned that in a video from an episode called Home Alone

this comeback is really conceptually important for kpop for me, I saw not many women empowering songs there, so for kpop this one is literally something, I hope we'll be talking about it longer and pay attention to the message but not stick on the visuals only
I think female idols took less risk lately because there had been a big anti-feminist movement in Korea (the presidential candidate who agreed with that was even elected) so it's good that things continue to evolve, I was worried about Soyeon when Tomboy came out but she didn't care, a queen

This comeback of them is rlly the most important comeback this year. The Message is just so amazing and I hope everyone can agree that we should be nude like them and just be our selfs
Being nude is not sexual!! I love this message!!
That’s so genius, directing people away from child pornography

Soyeon's genius and talent with these girls' individuality created this MASTERPIECE. G-IDLE just doesn't disappoint. Keep it up, queens! And Jordan, you are amazing! Your video always helps me to better understand stuff like this.
Nxde is definitely one of the most iconic kpop songs!! I'm obsessed...🤩🤩
I really love how he breaks down both the editing and the concept of the M/V, truly informative and entertaining!!
Things Jordan missed:
- Didnt even mention one of the members' names!
- Marilyn is one of ex-member Seo Soo Jin's heroines (miss her so much!).
- It is theorised that the animated blonde performer is a reference to Soo Jin as it appears to have her facial beauty mark under her left eye.
- All members have blonde hair
- "Lorelei"/ "Loreley" used in the video is a reference to a singing siren who lured men to their destruction.
- The chorus has a modified sample of the theme "Habanera" from Bizet's opera Carmen.
- The cone bra worn by Soyeon is a design by Jean-Paul Gaultier made for Madonna's Blonde Ambition tour which started April 1990. (Madonna's was a pink corset design with not as large cones!!)
- Yes the shredded artwork is a reference to Banksy who through a piece of peformance art shredded his "Girl with Balloon" piece which had sold for £1million prior to shredding. It was then sold as a piece named "Love is in the Bin" for £18.5million !!
He probably doesn’t know about Soojin
yassss
The Lorelei reference is likely also a reference to Marilyn Monroe's character (Lorelei Lee) in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (the same movie the first pink Minnie scenes are an homage to).
The Banksy reference can be taken two ways as well:
1. Capitalising on rat that is meant to send a message about the current state of society therefor devaluing the purpose/message as it’s just become another novelty of consumerism (a rare piece of art being sold to a single person when meant for the masses)
2. When the art was shredded, just as replicated in nude, it was the creator disagreeing with the use of their art being looked over and used for the wrong purposes demonstrating the message was lost or missed. The nude woman drawn is also in the style of Jessica Rabbit who was overly sexualised by other men apart from her husband (which is its own story) which may also portray a sense of how they, gidle, want to redefine woman and/or nudity in their field (so k-pop or musical artistry) and take it away from simply trying to please an audience as Jessica Rabbits character design did, you can think of it as fan service, this is ALSO said in the lyrics about how nudity is nakedness but actually the exposed true self
Thank you for coming to my rant, I am an English student so trust me to read too much into things 😂👍

If you type "(IDLE) Nxde" into a Korean search engine, I think you can imagine the unpleasant and dangerous information that can come up.

this is the first time i've watched nxde reaction where they focus on transitions of each scene and ive been waiting for anyone to even mention it because theyre awesome and captivating.
