  • After living for one month in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, it's time for an update to our monthly cost of living! This month was a little different than last month. Oaxaca was a bit cheaper, but Playa has a lot more activities that you just have to pay for. But did we spend too much?

What do you think? It's little more than we spent in Oaxaca, but things do cost a little more over in Playa del Carmen!

Since my husband and I spend close to that for going to a resort for a week, it's quite affordable. I'm adding in the airfare and any activities we do as well. I've been interested in spending a week in Playa del Carmen sometime at an Airbnb and just going out to eat instead of staying at an all inclusive, so you're videos are very helpful.

Wow. $1000 was more than I expected? So many $500-700 options in Baja. We limited to 3 days a week, only 1 meal a day eating out. Saved a lot!! Tried to limit to $3 tacos out at times. Meds and dental are like $2 to see a doctor, $5 meds. Never needed insurance. Dental is much much lower than US. I cannot imagine $400 for activities. I brought a bike and that’s all I use. Car Rentals are commonly $7 a day, used for some distant beach visits and for whale watching trip. Under $20 for month.

Another great video! You two did a lot of wonderful and memorable things this month. Good for you! After just spending a week in Cancun area I was surprised at how expensive stuff was. Inflation has definitely been a world wide thing.

Thanks Debra! Yes, it was a great month for sure. But you gotta pay to play here. Definitely more difficult to find cheaper options, but we found a way to save here and there.

I just got back from a couple weeks in Playa and now I've been watching all your videos lol. I obviously want to move there now. If you want some proper mexican food go check out Taqueria La Bendicion de Dios after 7pm. Its at 10th Ave and 100 st. Which is the area of town I stayed in. Things get cheaper the further away you get from the main tourist area. Some people may be under the impression it could be an unsafe area of town, however I found it to be the opposite of that personally. Also Playa 88 is a pretty good beach, and the street art in that area of town is phenomenal. Cheers.

Hi thx for the video but this isn’t really a “living expenses” it’s a “travel expense for a month in playa del Carmen” it is obvious u we’re visiting as tourist packing in as much as possible so it’s slightly misleading to label it as monthly living expense not saying it’s untruthful but there is a clear difference between canadiens visiting for a month budge vs expats living there as retirees or as regular person actually living there
