Introduce your kids to Tool's music, it pays dividends. My Son born in '91 grew up listening to my Tool Cd's and is now taking me to our second Tool Show together. Good Kid turned into a Great Man. Being able to connect with my kids through music, Priceless, as they all turned out good.
My dad showed me tool when I was about ten and I thought it was awesome but I didn’t listen to much of their songs, now I’m fourteen and I’ve started listening to their songs again. The first song I ever heard was tool then it was the pot, a memory that I seem to remember very well is me and my dad driving and he showed me this song and he told me about the Fibonacci sequence and said the number of syllables along with the beat. What’s weird is that I was already fascinated by the Fibonacci sequence not even knowing what it was. Point of the story is I love my dad for showing me tool at a young age and they make fantastic music.
People always mention how you need to EQ your bass, so it "cuts through the mix", but his tone is literally the perfect example of that. It's just so sharp, crunchy and awesome. I can only dream for such a sound...
I'm not a musician by any stretch, but I read somewhere its a relatively complicated time signature something like 9-8-7 if that makes sense? I guess its supposed to mirror the song's theme of spiraling outwards in an infinite loop. Correct me if I'm wrong
Oh cool man thanks for explaining it further. And yea I agree, once I found that out I realized it's literally a perfect song in every aspect. A real testament to how much time and thought they put into every song
Greennaxx123 didn't Maynard say that in an interview that the people who think he used the Fibonacci sequence were so deluded because it would have taken forever to even write a song much less lyrics?😕 i doubt maynard would go that far just my opinion feel free to chop me down like an old used liver of you want
Tool: the only band where the singer isn't in the spotlight, the drummer is the star and the bass is louder than the guitar. They're the best band ever.
Maynard is one of the weirdest yet coolest frontmen in all of rock. His presence is so felt, but he is also so mysterious hiding in the shadows. That I think is what helps me see what Tool is. They're one cohesive unit. There's no Adam Jones or Justin Chancellor. No Danny Carrey or Maynard, there's just Tool. And that's what I love about them.
I live in the town where he went to university (Durham), about 95% of the students I've talked to here have never even heard of Tool. That'll change when I finish this 50ft tall statue of him I've been working on...
Yeah it's the nest song ever. I listen to loads of stuff but an invocation to spread develop and expand in the same geometry as the universe does with religious overtones. Tool are spot on, if you feel existent dread and nihilism will never be topped
Don't get me wrong the whole song in its entirety is a total masterpiece, but from 11:30 to the end was purely epic. Like goddamn, that's some good music
And some guy says that theres no better than D.Grohl!?In Homme,Trent,Dave -Karma session.Sure....keep sleaping dude...And no one said anyothing!?From those 500 hits they all gave that guy, like, your right, thats truth, fantastic drumming(?!)Please listen, and youl know what I mean.Your damn right that D.Carrey is 25 another parallel omniverses/domains beyond anny drummer that I know off or dont...Pretty bad badass-ery!
As someone who has delved into lot of Alchemy and Buddhism, and also used a lot of those concepts to create art, it is absolutely INSANE to see a band perfectly translate both concepts into a song AND pace out the song perfectly to the metrics of the Golden Ratio. Yes, the song does feel like a spiral into transcendence equal to the most intense of spiritual experiences. The fact that they pull this off in both harmony, pacing, lyrics, down to the philosophical level is something I didn't think possible. I've only listened to Tool for a couple of months, and I can say it's easily measuring out to be one of my favorite bands of all time. These folks aren't just Musicians, they are Magicians.
It was the same for me when I first listened to Tool. I was like shit, it's only been a few weeks but I think they're already my favorite band. They encapsulate everything I love about music, they take it to places no one else can.
I’ve been listening since the 90’s and I’ve never left. They easily place in number 1 for best band, Rush coming in 2nd. Magical geniuses, all 4 of them.
You're absolutely right. As someone who has been immersed in the study and practice of all things occult as well as Jungian psychology, it's beyond words how they manage to tie up such divine, transcendent messages into an auditory avenue. You truly feel yourself elevated every time you listen to them, especially this, Reflection, and many, many more. They will always be my top and some of my soul's greatest heroes.
The golden ratio is nothing but a fibonnacci sequence, it is everywhere, and in lots of songs. And their philosophy is ... well... shallow. At best. Great band, incredibly trite lyrics. Anyone who has studied buddhism or even pop philosophy would know that
At 11:30 I always lose it. I have never been lost in a song like that ever in my life... With my feet upon the ground, I lose myself between the sounds.
Very few people know how intense this song is live. Seen them live twice and when this song comes on, everyone in the crowd loses their minds. Amazing band.
I once was a man with a dream to leave this life peacefully with no regrets. Having never been granted the divine right to attend a Tool show, there is no possible way I will leave without regret.
I agree, his stuff isn't the fastest or the most technical, but fuck its powerful! He pretty much developed his own sound, no one else sounds like Adam on the guitar and thats much harder to do then play fast..
I saw them two times on a week (19 march 2015 an 21 march 2015 México). Lateralus is the best song of tool (In my opinion). It was amazing! Tool is one best bands of history!
someone told me they were pissed when they saw Tool play because they just "stood there an did nothing, didn't even jump around, and the singer was in the shadows"! .....ummmmmm........
Jesse Lapham i think he's not human. There's one version of sober on yt where he doesn't blink. Not once. I know because I held my eyes open just to be sure.
Calum Osbaldiston ok, he placed his right stick under his left arm and threw a mallet at the gong behind him, ok a bit creative, but I have seen that done in different ways. I have to say that some of his single stroke fast runs on the tom toms are truly more incredible - but you have your opinions.
All hail Mr Carey! I'm pretty sure some of this fills he did were actually illegal. He should be careful. :P This song is freaking amazing! A masterpiece.
Damn this whole concert was awesome... Good to see Maynard can still hit all those crazy notes and screams even at 50 years old.. CANT WAIT FOR NEW TOOL
The riffs and melodies are not particularly intricate but his tone... off the charts consistent and great. That really is his focus it would seem is amazing performance of those riffs live. @Pedro Vaz I love it when an arrogant prick like you comes on to a video and feels the need to tell people they shouldn't enjoy the music they enjoy just because you don't enjoy it. Its hilariously pathetic. What music do you like?
Listening to Tool makes me very happy, this is a very happy moment right now. I will keep coming back here whenever I feel down to realize how everything is momentary and we're eternal and all this pain is an illusion.
I am a life long Pink Floyd fan and I've been to many rock concerts and even worked in the Cincinnati River Front Coliseum for a year when I was sixteen I just turned 63 yesterday and I think tool is the best rock band in this area and they give you a show today like Pink floyd give us back then they are so amazing and I wish I could have gotten a chance to see them
Regretting painting himself blue and singing almost naked 15 years ago while reminiscing to back when he had the best voice in metal... That or making wine
I've seen Tool 5 times. I've been waiting to see them again since 2007. I'm now 28 years old, first became a Tool fan at 16. Lateralus is my favourite song. A great story is when i was 17 a guy let me stay in his hotel room at Nottingham with my mate and him and his GF, years later I recognized him at the Manc Apollo gig and said thank you, he said he wasn't with his GF anymore, but we had a beer. Life changes, Tool don't. If he ever reads this, I now have a better job, lets have another fucking beer on me, thank you!
Since you seem to know a little more about drugs than I do (lol, 😂) are drugs kind of like dreams in that psychedelics can produce melodies and whole entire music from the back of your mind and subconscious? Is that how psychedelic music is made?
what can you say about these guys that hasn't been said already...I grow up in the 70's when progressive rock started. bands like ELP, Yes, King Crimson, Zepplin, Sabbath, and Pink Floyd. FM radio stations was the only place to hear these bands. In those days radio stations would play entire albums. My very first concert was Yes, 1977 in st. louis. Tool takes me back to those days...
I can only imagine what drudgery it is plating most every night and fulfilling other commitments but when you see bands such as Tool perform their music as good or better than than recorded versions it truly shows how much they love playing. Just look at Justin absolutely leaving it all on the stage- that's why we pay $100 for concert tickets- ROCK ON!!!
I'm a 50 year old man and seen alot of concerts never have i seen these guy's. THE TOP TEN ROCK BANDS OF ALL TIME IF NOT NUMBER ONE. NEVER GET TIRED OF THIS GREAT BAND.😱👽👁🤘
My dad passed away last year ago. Frankly, he wasn’t know TOOL. When I play this song and he literally thumbs up. And he says good kid you got a great taste. Love you always Papa❤️
After seeing this video, I now realize there is nothing more to do on the internet. Finally, my quest is complete, and I can go outside.
he is still on his quest and may never return, *salutes*
exactly 100 percent agree with this statment💪✌💯💯
One more special message to go, then I'm done, and I can go home :D
This response is fucking brilliant.

My son is 11 and I'm working on getting him into Tool. My dad was the bass player for America. Kids are tough. My boy just wants to read.
My son is three and he loves the "my shadow" song..as ge puts it.
Went to the last concert with my daughter and granddaughter.
That is so cool! I seen America live in 1993 Evansville Indiana. Great concert!
I love how clearly you can hear Justin
Goes to show how important good EQ and changing your strings before a show/recording actually is.
Not like some other bands *cough*and justice for all*cough*
Especially with the twangy Wal bass preamp (which I love)
People always mention how you need to EQ your bass, so it "cuts through the mix", but his tone is literally the perfect example of that.
It's just so sharp, crunchy and awesome. I can only dream for such a sound...
@@darkySp well said
Only Tool would throw a mini jam sesh/drum solo in the middle of a song with one of the most difficult time signatures and make it fit so seamlessly
eppursimuove311 Zeppelin did it back in the 70s.
LZ was definitely great at this 40+ years ago. This performance of Lateralus was SOLID and really enjoyed the diversion!

11:21 - 11:25 Danny indeed is hitting those drums like they owe him money.
Pedro Vaz the music sounds cool, man. chill.
Those drums were beaten like a ginger stepchild.
@Pedro Vaz when your ex listens to tool

They're the best band ever.
Very true

Whatever Maynard is doing from 11:30 to 11:40 is officially my favorite live dance ever
I love how Adam walks around so cool like he's playing in front of 20 drunks guys at a local nightclub in some half-assed garage band.
Epic foreal haha
Yes I remember a dude told him why dont you dance around more and adam said if you don't like it don't come to our shows then 😂😂

Life changes, Tool don't. If he ever reads this, I now have a better job, lets have another fucking beer on me, thank you!
I'm still waiting btw. But I did go see APC in Vegas in 2010 which, as an Englishman cost me a fucking fortune.
If I could see this song performed live, my life would be complete
PURE SOUND OF LSD, has me crying...thank you so much for sharing
Utterly fabulous! Perfect music to build lego to on a sunday morning with my babies :)
Good parent award! Raise them on the right music.
Adam Rory Porter Best parent ever
Very nice!
So cool...my daughter likes pop music....🙄🙄🙄
This is one of the best videos on the internet.
9 minute+ mark is magnificent
Tool is one of my top bands, Maynard can belt them out and lyrically speaking...mind blown!
wow, what an epic performance. I would cry like a baby during the whole song, those last minutes are beyond epic
tool live never gets old, only gets better.
I’m so happy that ToolArchive is back!!!
i did acid a year ago and chilled from rock/metal music a little bit, and started to enyoy psy trance music.. but then i heard tool..
Tool defines the level of consciousness you experienced and helps you reach higher even off drugs.
Awesome to read that!
Blessed to see this luve several times and will cherish it forever
I'm sure you will have another chance. Tell me where and I will suggest it for you. If it's Mexico don't hold your breath.
going to see them tonight... first time ever..one of my dreams has come true!!!
this is honestly the coolest thing i have seen on the internet
I can only imagine what drudgery it is plating most every night and fulfilling other commitments but when you see bands such as Tool perform their music as good or better than than recorded versions it truly shows how much they love playing. Just look at Justin absolutely leaving it all on the stage- that's why we pay $100 for concert tickets- ROCK ON!!!
You better drop that $100, grab your ticket, and run all the way to the show🤣
Best sound quality of live TOOL I have heard yet drums and bass sound incredible as well as guitar and vocals!!
Latetalus is my all time favorite song , it’s Beautiful ~
Justin's bass sound fucking rules.
Love you always Papa❤️
best channel on youtube, thanks so much
Danny throwing something at the gong at 12:12 just about might be the wildest, coolest damn thing I've seen in my life
The things I would do to see them perform this song live someday..
Amen I gotta bring my Pops to a Tool show legiiiiit lol
12:11 Danny is a beast
