    Two small tips:
    1) Go to Preferences->Display and increase "Marker size" and "Pick radius" from the default value of 5 pixels. I have mine set and 15 which gets rid of the pixel hunting when you want to select a point/line/whatever.
    2) Just press Esc to finish a sketch, you don't need to switch back to the task view for this.

      Thanks for the great tips! I try to stay away from using the keyboard as much as possible so that people watching will know what I am doing. When I started, it was a point of frustration when watching other tutorials. I like to switch between the panels so that people know they are there, and understand they can access the model tree while in the sketcher. I really appreciate your feedback, thanks for watching!

    Brilliant! Coming from Fusion 360, this video helped with the different ways of doing things. In Fusion you can use parts of a sketch to extrude etc., a master sketch in FreeCAD kind of gives the same functionality as that.

    You could add another sketch on XZ for all the padding and pocket dimensions, name the constraints and use these for the length of pad/pocket .. that way you have 2 sketches which you need to update and everything else changes accordingly. You would eliminate a few 'magic numbers' from your design this way.

      Glad you like it! There are a lot of ways you can model, some are better than others. I've tried a few approaches, and this is my favorite. I'm not saying it's the best, and it gets more difficult to implement the more complicated your model is, but it works well for simple stuff, and it makes very stable models that don't break when. Your change your constraints. Thank you for the feedback!

    Nice tutorial. As a 2D drafter moving to 3D the master sketch was an insight to a tool to drive the 3D model. I know you can name key dimensions and use spreadsheet to populate them. That would a great next step perhaps? Even if one was not intending to make several model sizes, for 3D printing, the 'fit' dimensions sometimes need tweaking to accommodate nozzle size or squish from the 3D printer.

    Will this suffer from topology errors. Lets, say if you change the master sketch?

    • @FPVBuilders
      @FPVBuilders  3 года назад

      I don't think so. I changed a lot of the dimensions and was never able to get an error. Topology errors come when you map sketches nto a face instead if a base plane or datum plane. Let me know if you are able to get it to break.

    Great video! I learned a LOT! But I have one problem -- when you select points, you get an exact point. For example, with drawing a line on a fully constrained view, when I start to draw a line starting on a known point, it not the exact point I selected. This is consistent however carefully I try. If I move the line, the point is NOT the point I think I selected but a new point close to, but not the exact correct point. I have to separate the points and use the concentric point constraint tool. Have I got a wrong preference setting? I can't find any reference in the wiki etc. possibly because I don't know the term for this function.

    • @FPVBuilders
      @FPVBuilders  3 года назад

      Try this: Edit>>preferences -- Click the display icon on the left of the preferences window. In the 3D view tab, locate "Marker Size" and increase the size to 13px or 15px. This will make it easier to select pre-existing points to start a line. Also, when selecting a point, make sure the cursor changes color, indicating that the point will be selected. Hope this helps!!

    Practical example, importing geometry from one sketch to another is a useful tool.
    I prefer setting dimensions from a spread sheet so they have names (and become yellow in your sketch).
    And language-police here, sorry, but the singular of vertices is vertex. I cringe when hearing 'this verticee' as if that is singular.
