REMEMBER TO LIKE & COMMENT. Traveling Italy?I have a few more Italy videos to share, so stay tuned. Over crowded, hyped? This was on my bucket list for Italy. Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterroso Al Mare, I solo travel Cinque Terre in 24 hours. Cinque Terre Travel Guide (coming soon: grrrltraveler.com/things-to-know-before-traveling-cinque-terre )
Out of all of the videos I have seen about this place, this really helped me understand this area a lot better, so I can figure out where I want to stay when I visit. Very good video!
I can almost imagine myself being there when I see the excitement on your face in each town. I can't wait to visit Italy's Riviera, it looks so beautiful. Also I keep hearing Mama Mia's theme song going through my head as I watch this video. Thanks for the journey.
Thanks for sharing your real experiences, there were some great tips for traveling to this part of Italy in general - fellow island girl (Moanalua side)!
Corniglia has a few AMAZING airbnb's. We stayed in one about halfway up the staircase and the views are EPIC!! Also the hike from Corniglia to Vernazza is stunning as well if you have more time!!
Thanks for your short and sweet video of your visit to Cinque Terre. I would work in improving pronunciation of the names of each of the 5 villages and adjancent cities. Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. As well, adjacent cities as La Spezia and Levanto. It's such a beautiful area that truly deserves respect and admiration. Corniglia is quite a hidden gem! Yes, there are 377 steps to get to center but also you can take the bus for 2.50 Euros or have the pass. I would recommend spending 2 days per town minimum. Day 1 to explore and get used to the town and Day 2 to enjoy hiking, the beach or do some shopping. Otherwise, you would be missing all that the town have to offer! Pretty good for a day trip!
Thanks so much for this video. I'm off to Italy next week and plan on a day trip to Cinque Terre from Pisa. Some great tips here and it looks stunning.
It's best to look at Cinqueterre by boat. The villages look great from the sea. It's also possible to walk from one village (I forgot which one) to another on a small path. But when you are in the region, visit Portofino, Genova's old town, and the hill villages of Liguria in the interior. And please, try the regional specialties, forget about that pizza. In Liguria, you should try pesto. There are so many beauties to find in Italy where almost no tourists are around. Ask the locals.
Excellent, good to see someone who explores the lesser known areas, rather than the standard destinations(I hope the bathroom cleaning was a regular thing and not because they saw you use itLOL)
Enjoy your videos. I'm a subscriber. Just want you to know I love and enjoy your videos and appreciate and thank you for all the hard work you do to present them to us. 👍👍👌👌🙂🙂
Thank you for sharing. Excellent and informative. I will use this as my template when I visit the area. I will be based in Genoa. Have you been to Positano Christine?
For other travellers, the actual town of Monterosso is back where that "castle" is. Out of the train station you turn left and walk along then through the tunnel. It's similar to the other towns with narrow streets but it has also got a nice shaded courtyard area and kids play park. There's a market on certain days too. Worth the 10 min walk.
Christine: I’m spending the pandemic lock down watching your old travel videos of some of my favorite places in the world like The Cinque Terre. I visited several years ago in late September as part of a solo trip to Italy and stayed for several days in Corniglia which was the least touristy of the 5 towns - and in retrospect was my favorite place to return to in the evenings. And I did read about the little shuttle beforehand that meets the train so I didn’t take that brutal zig zag walk up to the town from the train station in Corniglia like you did. I think it’s totally worth spending a few days on this coast. I took a lovely boat trip from Riomaggiore in the south to Monterosso in the north. I really enjoyed the different food specialties of each town so what you found in one town, you couldn’t necessarily find in the next town, just a 10 minute train ride away. If travelers have the time, I recommend not rushing through this area as a day trip and try to go during the shoulder season if possible (ie avoid the heat and crowds of the summer). Much aloha!
Because of those islands being "over-touristed", I decided to go to the other sister islands with the same, exact features, but that are not as popular with tourists.Thst was summer 2018. I took the ferry in and only hit like 1 or 2 of the Cinque. Took the train out once the majority of the cruise ship passengers were headed the other direction. Visiting the less popular islands was MUCH better for me because the cruise ship passengers were FLOODING the Cinque Terre. I enjoyed watching your video, of course. It inspires memories!
I suspect summer time would be a BRUTAL time to visit. I find opinions are usually love or hate in re to the overtourism issue. Cinque is not an island. It’s just coastal villages. What island did you visit? 😃
Such a great video! I like that you showed yourself in trains and now I could see the ticket. We’re going there in Aug and we’ll be staying in Manarola for 5 nights. I wish I would have warched more videos before booking because I think I would have chosen Vernazza for my home base instead. :D It was more expensive to stay theye but I love beaches. Well, it’s close still. :)
Wow, I did not know one can travel to each town in Cinque Terre in one day. A train pass, and a bathroom pass for the whole day can do it. Then, spend time eating at a restaurant. Thanks for the information and vlog to confirm how it can be done.
Looks amazing! 😊 My new year's resolution is to film more vlogs and it's videos like this that inspire me so thank you! 😃 Happy new year to everyone reading this comment 👍
The restaurants on the main road are always more expensive, usually go behind a few alleys, it's cheaper and less ppl :) well given you have plenty of time to explore back alleys lol
Yes - wish I planned a better visit. My cold was full blossom and my body wanted to stay in bed. - unfortunately those steep backstreets tempted curiosity but not my physical condition 😀.
A friend said that besides exploring the towns it’s also nice to get onto a boat tour to see all 5 towns from the sea. Corniglia is pronounce as cor-ni-lia silent g 🙂
Greetings from Bangkok!!! Been watching your videos for a while, some great ones! Im actually planning this exact trip later this year with my folks, they might find the long walks or steep steps challenging, which of the 5 are more manageable? Thank you!!! Hoping you come back to Thailand soon as well!
Great video, thank you! Like you said, those villages are very beautiful, but also very hyped and over touristed. Out of curiosity, what month did you visit? I'm guessing it was late fall, it's crazy to see how many visitors are still around.
Spooky that you were wearing a mask before they were a thing! Predicting trends! 😂 Just kidding! It’ so important to care for others when we have a cold! Loved the video!
I'm going in August! 😍 Do u recommended one or two days there? I'm not sure if I'm hiking or taking the train yet...I want to make sure I have time to see all 5 towns.
You can only walk between certain ones due to path closures. And the closest are 3km apart by path, it would have taken a couple of days to see everything. On the train its 10-15 mins each.

Getting my bags ready! Loved your videos, you give a real perspective!! Trying to decide where to stay?
Wow can’t believe how much you were able to do in a single day and I love the colors of each town. I would need several days just to try the food!
You should. Some travelers stay in Cinque to explore, eat and hike.
I just wasn’t sure how much it would all cost upon planning.

I’ve found Italy public toilets are mostly pay toilets, so it’s better maintained. 😉 The true test- summer crowds.
Absolutely stunning! I can't wait to visit!
Excellent. Does it mean that the train ticket you purchased doesn’t require to be validated.

I am so happy, that I traveled the world 20, 30 years ago. it is actually only full everywhere...
Have not been to these locations yet but i missed Italy since 2015. Thx for sharing your journey, mahalo and aloha.
From Honolulu I’ve seen deal tix as low as $500 RT to Milan. 😁

Thank you for sharing. Excellent and informative. I will use this as my template when I visit the area. I will be based in Genoa. Have you been to Positano Christine?
Awesome. I made this as a roadmap for travelers. Enjoy Genoa and Cinque!
One of my favorite places that I visited! Enjoy! Such a magical place!🤗
I’ve always wanted to visit the Cinque Terre
It is ridiculously easy! The hardest part will be getting to Italy.
Thank you for sharing. Will add this to our itinerary when we visit Genoa. Have you visited Positano Christine?
Couldn’t make it on this trip as my exploration goal was more central. Next time!
I love Cinque Terre, so beautiful, yet so touristy unfortunately.
Did they start limiting the amount of tourists yet?
I didn't encounter any limitation. Although I read some of the hiking paths connecting certain villages were closed.
For other travellers, the actual town of Monterosso is back where that "castle" is. Out of the train station you turn left and walk along then through the tunnel.
