Test audiences have a lot of power and they didn't like this. It's on par with what the censors did in the 60s when they had a little girl struck by lightning in a movie adaptation of a book. The little girl lived in the book, but the censors decreed she must have a punishment for all the people she murdered.
I did this musical two years ago. It was so much fun! I especially liked how the costume designer made the various forms of Audrey 2 and the boy who voiced Audrey 2!! 😍
I dream of being Twoey or the dentist even though I'm a girl. I'm not a first soprano so I couldn't do Audrey. I could choreograph it too but still...😔

What if the Theatrical ending is the real ending? I have 2 ways this could happen.A. Are there any plants eating us? And B. This could be just SEYMOUR and AUDREY NIGHTMARE? Could be? What do all of you think?
It'd be a bit weird that they'd both have the exact same nightmare, not to mention that Audrey wasn't clued into Audrey 2's intentions until much later in the show.
It's not the real ending, the original ending is where Audrey II eats both Seymour and Audrey and then takes over the world and that Seymour, the dentist, Audrey and the shop owner sing this at the end of the musical.
Honestly I don't like this ending version, mainly because it just doesn't make sense. And to prove my point, here is a list I call "Everything Wrong with this Original Film Ending in Under 10 minutes. GO!! 1) Why would Seymour just feed the plant his dead fiancée. I mean, yeah she's dead, but doesn't really show you love you feed her to a demonic plant. 2) We see the guy come and try to make a deal with Seymour, but if Seymour originally died, how come the guy was still allowed to make copy's of the thing and HOW ON EARTH WAS HE ABLE TO. In addition to this 3) The film never shows the guy stealing it or even writing a fake signature on the contract, so how would he have still been allowed? Was the company seriously just like, "Well, we would be making trade illegally, but ehhh, whatever". 4) Seriously, of ALL the times to eat Seymour, he does it now??? That's not evil, its just plain laziness. 5) They are in the shop during daytime, and the plant has to have a 4 minute song sequence before ACTUALLY killing Seymour? 6) (back to the contract guy) REALLY? Did he just stood there for a full 4 minutes and waited for Seymour? He never TRIED to see where he had gone or what he was doing?? 7) Did the contract guy not even HEAR the loud music playing. (Seriously, the contract guy is both the stupidest yet most mysterious things in the film (original ending) 8) I know this is set in the 1960s and everything, but, really. Of all the things that people would be interested in, its a plant?? 9) How did the plants persuade people so quickly to feed them people?? There's no concept of time of how quickly these plants breed, so how did they eat people so quickly. 10) Really, nobody questioned where Seymour went?? His disappearance isn't on the news? 11) Why doesn't the plant eat the backup singers? Just favouritism :/ 12) Really, the American army is going to take down the plants.. with bullets... Ok, hi, um, heres a crazy idea. Ummmm you know how these are plants right? Yeah, well, why don't you use AXSES?!?!?!? OR GIGANTIC BOMBS... OR FIRE?!?!?!? (seriously, have you noticed that the American army is always depicted as stupid in media?) And there we go.
Bringing this sort of logic to a film and musical where dentists get to torture their patients without consequences, people sing in unison every day, and plants seem to attract anyone nearby to do anything they want is pointless to even attempt.
For the first question, if you watch her death scene, she says to feed her body to the plant so he can feed her and water her and take care of her after she's gone. She then says that it's not that bad because she'll finally, in some way, go somewhere that's green. It's actually a quite beautiful sentiment.

Because this is their new threat they dont know anything about the Plants because it might not work heck they need to study it to know its Weakness. Done
About the plant weaknesses they are extremely durable that in alternate ending we see army trying bullets but bullets just dont work and its safe to assume that they are durable to metals and axes are ussuaslly made off of metal
