  • Couple of things to look out for:
    1. Detroit Pistons center Mark West's fighting game sound effects every time he tries to body up Shaq in the post (0:13, 0:30, 5:00, 5:35, 6:45).
    2. NBC's Tom Hammond impressively working in references to his network's upcoming TV movie adaptation of The Beast, no matter how flimsy the tie-in (0:40, 3:15, 8:30). For those hankering for The Beast's 1996 TV movie trailer: • The Beast - NBC TV Mov...
    3. This clip offers a rare glimpse of the Pistons' Bad Boys-style red alternate jersey. One of the first teams to debut an alternate road jersey, the Pistons introduced this design during the 1994-95 season and wore it intermittently for two campaigns before the teal horsepower re-brand following their 1996 playoff exit.
    4. Leading a 60-win second seed (behind Chicago's 72 wins), Shaquille O'Neal finished with 29 points (13-of-19 shooting), 7 rebounds, and 6 assists in a 92-77 Game 2 win over the Detroit Pistons in the first round of the 1996 NBA playoffs. A year removed from an NBA Finals appearance, O'Neal and the Magic reached the Eastern Conference Finals in '96, only to be swept by Chicago.

This is the 1995-96 NBA Playoffs, O’Neal’s final with the Orlando Magic. He signed with the Lakers in the summer of 1996 and played his first season with the club in 1996-97.

    0:16 Offensive Foul

@Ryan Van Dusen Thank you for sharing this clip with us. Less than 10 minutes of footage in which O'Neal gets away with (at least) five offensive fouls. He would have fouled out in the first half of many, many games had he been officiated fairly from the start. What we see here is the result of the biased treatment he was afforded. You can also see flashes of what made me like him at the beginning of his career. The quickness for his size, some of the spin moves, and a couple of the passes (though there's nothing all that impressive about facing triple teams and finding an open guy at the 4:02 and 4:05 marks, which happened a lot to him in L.A.). Right from the start, I saw the enormous potential he possessed. The man-child that he is, a ton of it was never realized. It's truly sad that players of the golden era had to pass the torch to someone like him.
