Troll horde really teaches you the power of this kind of tactic. You’ll often do far more damage given your strength and toughness, but lose combat because regeneration saves count for combat res and you rarely have ranks / banners. But a well positioned Hag behind your trolls means they FBIGO or even flee through to safety and then unless it’s an absolutely top tier combat unit it’s going to have a scary time. And your trolls rally and give up few points. It allows you to play beyond what the army should be capable of if you get the movement right.
Thanks for the detailed response. I think this strategy can make durable and/or numerous infantry very playable. Combined with the point-scoring system where you really need to destroy units, the era of a big cavalry charge breaking and catching a defensive unit in one turn is no longer a given.
