I think Krennic being killed by his own creation at the hands of his 'work rival' is better than Jyn killing him out of revenge
Niall murray
how did he die again.. shit i forgot .-. tell me!
deathstar
Kris W 69 he died the same way Jyn died. he was on the planet and died when the death star destroyed the city.
Niall murray I completely agree, I love that he saw it coming and he was powerless to stop it.
fahd s oh yea.. nh Tarkin was like *"do it"* (to the imperial officers) xd
Fan base in a nutshell: if you're not with me, then you're against me.
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
I'll do what I must.
Chandler Bing You will try.
*Y O U W E R E T H E C H O S E N O N E*
YOU WERE MY BROTHER ANIKAN
"No gray area"..?? only a sith deals in absolutes... Greedo will do what he must
made me smile bro
Saying "only a sith deals in absolutes" is stating an absolute
Dun dun dudududu dun dun dun! (Battle of Heroes)
What a twist!
Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?
I liked that Jyn didn't kill Krennic...because we all expected her too. Having another person save her...then they still fucking die? Great.
I'll bet for a second people thought, "hey, They'll make it and become Rey's parents!" Annnd no. Heh.
FACE I'd say only you thought that, it wouldn't have made any sense considering the timeline.
Cynt3r I didn't think that at all...I'm just saying that some people may have.
And if they survived and banged a few years down the road...timeline would totally add up...
I'm not talking about banging right there on the beach...but like a celebratory bang after the Empire falls.
Honestly, I never expected it to connect to Force Awakens. IT SHOULDN'T. The minute you make the standalone films essential to understanding the saga films, you ruin the point of them being stand ALONE. Now the saga films can be essential to understanding the stand alones, but not the other way around
Gamma Beta Alpha GBA I agree...though the Death Star having a hyperdrive I suppose would carry over to Star Killer base...
I like that Rogue One enhances the other films...but it it not necessary.
FACE actually I kinda expected that Tarkin might kill him some how they have a long rivalry
"I haven't felt this way about a movie since..."
*walks away*
In my opinion tarkin was absolutely needed, he is such a crucial part in the next movie. I think the chracters weren't too fleshed out but i still liked the movie alot. But hey that's just my opinion
DarthDominus He was absolutely necessary. Sometimes I wonder how this guy calls himself a fan
agreed
Tarkin is the face of the Death Star. he just is. You love A New Hope so much that I'm surprised you can't see that.
I disagree. If you are going to make a backstory film about the Death Star, the face of the death star needs to be in it. perhaps less direct on shots, but he needed his role. And giving Vader his role, when he doesn't even believe in the super weapon, would make no sense. Hell, he would have less of a cameo in this than Episode 3, which would make no sense.
Benyin the frog if you read the book rogue one catalyst then you would know Tarkin involvement in this movie makes total sense Tarkin and krennic have a long rivalry
Totally agree this Hellogreedo I feel like went into this movie with set expectations and was disappointed when events and situations didn't happen his way instead of just accepting the direction they took. Especially with it being a spinoff movie, anything was fair game in a way
You shouldn't need to read a book to understand the movie. If you can't have Tarkin look good or have a meaningful role to play, then don't have him in the movie.
You don't have to read a book to understand anything. I haven't read any books about Tarkin or the Death Star. I watched Star Wars.
Why did all the planets in the movie have text introducing the planet except for Mustafar?
ajzeg01 Maybe to let fans create theories about it?
ajzeg01 The first planet didn't have one either. It kinda looked like where Rey found Luke in Force Awakens but probably not.
So that the surprise for Vader was more powerful.
Tom Ingham They didn't destroy Coruscant, that was the Hosnian System, not the one seen in the prequels
Tom Ingham There were no planets from the prequels destroyed in Force Awakens. The new Republic was in another system.
I enjoyed Rogue One much more on my second viewing. The first time i felt that the opening scenes were messy and the movie was moving too slowly until the last hour. the tone was overly dour, and the characters weren't fleshed out enough. I still really liked it, but i wasn't as satisfied as say, the first time i watched Force Awakens.
But the second time, knowing how it would all end, i found myself being much more appreciative of the risks the filmmakers took. They wanted to make a war-based, grittier, more melodramatic and subdued movie, with different depictions of the Rebels and the Empire, in addition to still having to world build and set up everything, and they executed it well. I also found myself enjoying the characters much more, since i knew they were actually all going to die in the end. They succeeded in making every character just likeable enough for me to care when they died, in only two hours. With this movie i felt the characters shined in this movie more through what they were doing, over who they actually were. In the end they're not Luke, Han, Leia, Obi-Wan, Anakin or even Rey or Finn, they're all just soldiers, and I'm glad no one had any plot armor just because they're a main character.
And setting all that aside, it still had a phenomenal final act with a great space battle and added context to ANH, well-done fanservice, and *that* Vader scene. Even the CGI characters didnt bother me as much since i saw it coming.
Overall i enjoyed it much more the second time, unlike TFA, which while i still really like, didnt hold up nearly as well the second time. I feel like this movie will be much more revered in a few years time because they attempted to do something different with Star Wars.
Of course, You're completely entitled to your own opinion Hellogreedo.
BattleUp Saber for me it was the opposite i liked TFA much more with every viewing
Michele De Tommasi To be fair I've grown to like Force Awakens much more since it came out on BluRay, and I still think its very good regardless.
BattleUp Saber good for you then :-)
BattleUp Saber TFA was horrible in my opinion, no space battles (Rogue One check), no interesting dialogue and acting (Rogue One check), Storm troopers can't hit a barn (Rogue One check), Story that makes sense (Rogue One check), Story that goes somewhere (Rogue One check) ( TFA missed the next chapter after ROTJ Luke's jedi academy! and now you can't go back unless everyone is CGI).
The only reason i knew Tarkin was CGI was because i new the actor was super old or dead. The CGI looks AMAZING!
William Aguilar no
Alec By 2020 NO ONE will be able to tell the difference between CGI and reality I 100% guarantee it. You can only barely tell that Tarkin and Liea are not real because you know how old they are. If they were brand new characters you would almost not know at all.
by 2045 no one will be able to tell the difference between humans and machines
ignore people like him. the anti cgi people are trolls. trying to find pretend flaws to act like theyre smart and above it. If cushing was alive, people wouldn't know it was cgi. theres nto even a difference.
As long as it's a human character you'll immediately know if it's real or not. Our brains have evolved to recognize faces, you can't just hide that with CGI.
Non-human characters are fine, but we're a long ways off from humans.
I didn't mind it in Rogue One though, even though I knew I think it was worth it.
+William Aguilar
I totally agree with you. That CGI was great and I was really happy when I saw them. The only thing that made me notice the CGI (next to the clear "the actor is dead/old") was that it had a higher fps than the humans. But still it was awesome :)
People like Star Wars for different reasons. It's a versatile saga. Some people like the action, or the characters, or the space battles, or the puppets and miniatures, or the CGI. Some people like swinging across a chasm with a princess. Personally, this gritty, war movie take on Star Wars, personally it wasn't for me. I love The Force Awakens, I love the characters, the story, some people hate it, whatever. It's all good everybody.
I totally agree with you! I feel the same way.
My friend didn't even notice Tarkin was CGI, I had to tell him lol
Grant Dosland I was in the same boat. I knew the actor was dead, but I didn't know what they did to ressurect him. Even after seeing it a second time, I still don't think it looks that bad
TheSonicTurtles I'm a sucker for good animation & cgi work lol
***** I still think they did a pretty good job!
Grant Dosland me too.
Grant Dosland did u told him about the CG red leader and golf leader
I think that this is a film that would be improved vastly with a director's cut.
Add another 15 to 20 minutes to the film to explain/explore:
1. Jyn's relationship with Saw
2. Galen's relationship with Krennic
3. The crew of Rouge One. Not necessarily backstory, but more scenes of them interacting/developing comradery
U dare question rogue one?

"Needs more lens flair." -Jar Jar
Aaron Evans you may fire when re- oh, you already did
You may fire when ready.
Star Wars movies (sometimes) need numerous viewings in order to fully appreciated. We go in with so many preconceptions that the first viewing is usually ruined by them. This happened to me. The more I see the movie the more I like it. No Star Wars film is perfect.
Francisco Matallana Exactly no Star Wars film is perfect.
Francisco Matallana No movie is perfect
Francisco Matallana Same. I had to grow up some to enjoy Clones more.
Francisco Matallana or read the books and you will know what is happening through out the film which I did for this movie rogue one catalyst book good read
Most people didn't like The Empire Strikes Back when it first came out, but now everyone praises it as the best Star Wars film.
Love how they used a turbo tank in rogue one
That was my favorite camo actually
I was thinking the same thing with the Turbo Tank, showing that he Empire was still using old, outdated equipment from the Clone Wars during the Galactic Civil War. I also liked how they showed two TIE Advanced Fighters, showing that it was a limited production fighter instead of just a prototype.
Christolclear101 those were tie bombers
+magnasupreme didn't look like Bombers to me. I could be mistaken.
Christolclear101 it had two round pods not one
I liked the review, but what the fuck with with the Tarkin shit? He was very important to the story, and I would've thought he was real if Peter Cushing wasn't dead.
***** No I don't. The lip movements were on par. I don't know what you were watching.
Felix DaFrick he looked too shiny to be real. Very obvious CG.
NeonCobalt Exactly. I think they did a fine job with it.
***** I didn't notice a thing.
I saw it in Imax and I was sitting WAY upfront, but I didn't even notice the CG on Tarkin nor on Lea. I see this a lot that there is a divide of people who found it super distracting and those who didn't notice a thing.
It's ridiculous that people think you hate a movie just because you think it has problems. All the movies have problems. Even Empire. Rogue One for me is like Return of the Jedi - it's solid and ultimately very satisfying, with some awesome moments, but the way it's assembled as a film leaves something to be desired, and the script is a bit sloppy. But that said, it's still an enjoyable Star Wars movie! We're getting one a year, they're not all gonna be ESB quality! This internet mentality where everything is either a 10/10 or a 1/10 needs to stop. It's basically equivalent to Anakin saying "if you're not with me, then you're my enemy."
just like the people who find even the most tiny little flaw that the force awakens has, and they said that is the worst thing ever just because of that flaw. its like they don't look at good movies, they just look at perfection. tfa is not that awfull as everybody says and r1 is not that great as everybody says. they are both good movies with cons and pros. if you want to see a really good movie go and watch movies like terminator 2, apocalipsys now, or the godfather, if you want to see a really bad movie go and watch twilight, jack & jill and the last airbender
TJ Hastie I think its more then just "you either love or hate it". He claims he "likes" the movie but has spent most of his 27 combined minutes of two reviews talking only of what he disliked. Like roughly 21 of 27. Someone who likes s film spends more time on what they enjoyed then so much on the negative.
is there anyone who remembers the names from the characters in the movie "saving private Ryan"? I dont.^^
The reason why all know the names from Episode 7 is:
1. they were all promoted very strong. even before the movie came out we knew every name.
2. The names were easier to learn. BB-8 is easier then K2....or what ever his full name was ^^
3. they using the names more often in Episode 7, in Rogue One not that much.
The thing is, Rogue One is just one movie, one little Story, while Episode 7 is part of a Trilogy. they have more time for the characters.
K2so not that hard, tbh think that part of his vid was bs
The Reverse Flash he had way too much stretching, this was like the first one a clearly biased review, he went in wanting to hate it and found (and made up) everything he seemed wrong even when they make no sense
The Reverse Flash its his opinion, but i think he had wrong expectations with this movie.
well i remeber jackson, wade, the captain h miller and of course ryan. even if they aren't that solid, at least they give you at least one or two characterizations to remeber them. other characters that i don't remeber the name i still remeber from who they are like the cool guy without shirt slevees and the private that his only job was to traslate the german soldiers. at least they have more develop than most characters of rougue one
Ben_ Slashes Jyn, Cassian, K2SO, Baze, Bodhi, Chirrut
What happened to the force awakens, when it came out everyone loved it now since rouge one came out everyone says it's shit wtf
iron rifle TFA I think was and will always be white... it's a star wars film for the snow flakes and millennials...
People are 14 years old and "edgy as fuck". They find themselves to be cool if they discredit the work of artists, even though they could never in their life create anything even close to art.
personally, i just really wanted to have a good star wars film. i am willing to admit ep 7 isn't the greatest only because we do have a really good star wars movie now.
The Force Awakens was bad from the start, Journalists and movie reviewers with typical "hip" views like feminists and so hyped on seeing a Mary Sue in action said it was the best Star Wars movie so far. Now that the hype has passed the negative views are showing. Old trilogy fans like me fucking hate TFA.
Miratesus Yeah, you sure must be the reference fan of the Star Wars universe for daring to hate a movie based on the fact that feminists like it. Bravo sir, props to you!
cassian stopping her was a good thing. he learned to not do things he would regret. at the start of the film he shoots a guy in the back. he doesn't want jyn to grow into a monster like he did
Bolo Santosi Good point. Dynamic character for sure
Not that it really mattered if she killed him or not...
allday199715 Yeah but since he mentioned it
She didn't grow at all!
Bolo Santosi What I meant was that she died literally a few minutes later. Killing Krennic wouldn't have altered her final moments in any way. If anything it would have provided a sense of fulfillment
I prefer Rogue One over The Force Awakens to be honest. 😅
Of course. It's much more original. The story, sure, isn't the BEST, but it sure does top The Force Awakens.
Yes Rogue one it's better film for me.
Dutch_Atlantic_13 at least it wasn't another remake
TFA is like a 5/10
R1 is a 7/10
Because it's not part of a trilogy and gets to tell it's whole story at once without witholding information and going "wait for the next movie". I also loved the intensity of the battles in R1, and that space battle at the end is easily my favorite of the entire franchise. There's this war movie feel to it, and for some reason looking at the Star Wars universe that way really intrigued me. TFA just feels bleh to me.
+A Dark Shade of Green
"5/10" You don't know anything about movies, do you?
How fleshed out are Han Solo and Lando in their first films compared to Donnie Yens character? Didnt we see some nice progression from his introduction until his death? Did we really need his backstory? How would that have affected the pacing? I felt like Jyn and Cassian had a pretty good connection, and growth in the film. What more did we need to see between them?
bushwick you can't reason with him, your legitimate points pale in comparison to the power of a nostalgia fueled OT fanboy.
bushwick Solo has a complete character arc in New Hope. Do you really think the Han we meet at the beginning of the film would have gone back to save Luke? He only comes back at the end because he has grown as a person.
Lando is a side character and even he changes a fair bit, he learns to stand up against the empire, joining the rebels at the end of episode v, which, again, the Lando we first meet wouldn't do.
Lando didn't even have all of episode v to develop, he had only half the movie or less.
Jason Fenton yes but what do we know about them? not much at all, han was a smuggler working for jabba who shot first asked later and in it for the money, that's it, lando was his friend and controlled bespin.
Loved Rogue One. Every second of it. Here's my favorites.
1. A New Hope
2. Empire
3. Rogue One
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Force Awakens
6. screw the prequels...
Evan Paluch Return of the Jedi is an awesome movie but rogue one had a more serious tone overall. Also While I don't hate the ewoks they were a bit too cutesy for me.
Juliano rocha I feel like Rogue One took alot more chances than both films, but I respect your opinion as well.
Juliano rocha I just realized that we had a disagreement on the Internet that didn't turn into an argument. WOAH.
Ralph Astarita My list :
1. empire
2. revenge of the sith
3. force awakens
4. a new hope
5. rogue one
6. attack of the clones
7.return of the jedi (fuck the ewoks)
8. phantom menace
Schänder MOnd But an awesome prequel
I believe Krennic's death was perfect. At first I thought Vader would kill him for not doing his job. But no. That would have been lazy and predictable. I feel the same about Jyn killing him. Instead, he was killed by the Death Star. Not even the shock wave, the laser hit the top of the tower, right where he was. He choked on his aspirations. It just, worked best, in my opinion.
I agree with 100% I prefer Force Awakens to Rouge One.
Disturbed Shifty What why? R1 was so much better. And in not saying force awakens is bad, its great but R1 is better. And of course the CG characters are not perfect its not the year 2035. And btw i loved all of it even the middle. It was great. And im not saying that just because its sw its just awesome. Im sad that some dont agree with me, but i think its the best star wars film yet.
interesting. I Really saw it the other way around after my first watch. I thought that episode 7 was too much like someone trying to sell me a used car.
Eemeli Kuusela mostly because the characters didn't resonate with me. Force Awakens has better character development. Plus, I grew up with the original trilogy. So the returning characters struck a cord. And I know that it's a remake of A New Hope but to me it is a refined version of A New Hope. I actually like it better than A New Hope.
Disturbed Shifty I agree the problem I had with rogue one was that I never felt involved in the characters and the plot until maybe the end. I also didn't care about them dying. The force awakens was much better even with his issues.
Disturbed Shifty i also grew up with the original trilogy and i liked the tfa more than anh too. But i just like R1 better. There was not a singular character i did not like unlike in Tfa (kyloren).
Wanna watch a great action movie Greedo? Watch John Wick. Fricking amazing!
Darth Levy, "He killed 3 people with a pencil, a F*CKING pencil!"
Darth Vader, "He isn't the boogeyman, he's the person you send to kill him!"
"It's not what you did son. It's who you did it to!"
Darth Levy yes John Wick was a fantastic action movie and I can't wait for the second to come out!
I aint afraid of john wick!!
HelloGreedo, I definitely LOVED Rogue One but I have to say your second take and review of this film is respectable and articulate. This is a different of opinion I like to see.
Is Rouge One the best prequel?
Ricky Wright yes
It´s the "worst prequel", but that doesn´t say much. It´s still lightyears better than The Force Awakens.
Of course.
+fundhund62 Got any real evidence to back that up? Anything a real film critic would respect? Or are you just going to misuse the term Mary Sue like everyone else and talk about the plot being similar to the plot of the film that defined hollywood?
Hans Von Witzland
Moulin Rouge One
You're nuts.
Tarkin is mandatory in this story.
"Book should never dictate what can/cant be in a film...."
You've just lost my Star Wars respect with this.
You're free to feel this way, but this feel so wrong to me.
PeedgeMcDuck I agree. Tarkin and the first death star go hand in hand.
Also, the books are the same story as the movies. Each depend on each other. That's what makes Star Wars so special.
+PeedgeMcDuck Just ignore this fake stormtrooper he literary wore a shirt saying "In JJ We Trust" and most things he says are BS lol.
The Reverse Flash His opinion does line up with yours and you bash him for this. I don't mean to be rude but really? Are you that childish?
The force awakens was good. But the plot was very unoriginal and it relied too much on plot holes and cliffhangers. Everyone loves it because it's basically the modern OT. Rogue One is new and different and dark and that is why it is the superior film in my opinion.
I liked how after the Death Troopers killed the engineers and Krennic smacks Galen down and Galen tells him "You'll never win" and Krennic asks him "Now where have I heard that before?" Which was a throwback to Lyra's last words before Krennic had her killed. It brought more evil to Krennic's character and it was a nice thing I caught during my second viewing.
Brian Boardwell I didn't catch that, wow! Thats great.
Brian Boardwell thank you for that. I couldn't remember where the You'll never win line came from and I knew Krennic was saying it in a stinging way.
Preston Ellis No problem.
Good eye
Brian Boardwell I just wish Krennic was in the movie more! He made too little of an impact sadly.. Him and Galen Erso should have had more scenes
1 year from now I fully expect the SW Fanbase to be decrying Rogue One as the worst movie in the entire franchise.
Because episode VIII is going to be AWESOME ?
no because after the release of the phantom menace everybody say that is an amazing film just like the OT. untill the hype goes down, everybody start to point out the flaws of the film
+motor4X4kombat Is like Avatar-ish hype or Frozen-ish hype, or you can say it is better than both?
Finding MOMO naaa. its all depends if you still like it or not
Crackers and Cheese *prequel fan boys* that's what I've noticed is how toxic they can be. You can like the prequels just don't be toxic
Those who say "You can only love it or hate it" are mindless extremists who dont know a shit about films.
no offense but that Imperial Labour camp nitpick I think was kind of stretching to the bottom of the barrel. if that is a major concern I think the movie wasn't that bad. in my opinion it just seems like you don't want to love the movie and you were trying to find excuses to not like it.
mr. Fakename your an idiot
yes
mr. Fakename he does this with everything not the originals and the remake of a new hope, even when his arguments hold no water or are stretching so far Mr. fantastic is sweating at the prospect
You are completely correct, he is stretching to find negative things about the movie, I find it hard to listen to what he is saying after the first review and now this one is even worse
well sory guys but you all act like theres nothing wrong with this film and act like this is the new citizen kane. pointing out one or two flaws don't mean hate the film, is being honest. a think that you will start to learn when your hype is going lowers
The Force Awakens > Rogue one
Трах Трахула I agree
I would agree while Force Awakens doesn't have an original story I felt the characters and over all pacing was better handled in that movie. Rouge One has a better story but pretty bad pacing in the first hour and none of the characters are really all the interesting probably because there are a ton of new characters
Agreed, the R1 isn't bad by any means. Just TFA to me is more entertaining to me. But we got to be careful, opinions arn' t welcome in these here parts..
Nathaniel Mauro Agreed. I loved Rogue One, but Force Awakens was a much better film when it comes to characters, dialogue, and acting. In my opinion.
Unlike TFA, Rogue One holds up on second viewing. It feels like I already knew everything I needed to know when Force Awakens started a second time, but in R1 I went in wanting to get as many details as I could, anticipating that I missed something. As you said with the Labor Camp, there's so much more in this movie that I would like to be expanded upon, it would take another movie to cover it all. It's funny because I saw Jakku for the first time and I'm like "yeah, that's a desert planet, move on". After that Maz's castle and a forest "cool, an old castle and trees" and in the end, Hoth with Death Star in it.
Here I want to see more of the Jedha - its streets and the Kyber Temple. I felt like Eadu could use more screen time too. It had a base which probably could have some cool interiors, and the shuttle depot could be the first time we see a large imperial landing platform filled with ships.
TFA hit with nostalgia, but R1 hits with familiar theme filled to brim with new stuff that you want to see and explore.
In A New Hope. When luke is looking up at the twin suns, that makes a beautiful wallpapper
I think Rogue One was good (7/10)
TFA- 8.5/10
ROTS-6.5/10
TPM & AOTC-4/10
ROTJ - 8.5/10
ESB - 9.5/10
ANH-9/10
SW Christmas special - 0.5/10
That's fair. Though I would give Revenge of the Sith a 5 at most, and Attack of the Clones a 2.
For a minute I thought you ranked Revenge of the Sith lower than the other prequels
Rick Berman McCallum in my opinion Rogue One is my top 3 with Revenge and Empire
fahd s Perfect list
fahd s You're freaking stupid. SW Christmas special is a solid 10/10
The film has some flaws
But for some reason, I really felt emotional watching this film...
Well put, Mr. Greedo. You can't blindly love everything labeled "Star Wars," just because it's Star Wars. What a crazy idea it is to formulate opinions based on past experiences and preferences...
1.The Empire Strikes Back
2.Return of the Jedi
3.The Force Awakens
4.A New Hope
5.Rogue One
6.The Phantom Menace
7.Revenge of the Sith
8. Attack of the Clones
TheEmperor Wait you have TFA over Hope? Ok... You do you I guess.
ProGMO Vegetarian
Actually TFA and ANH are on the same level.
But I like TFA a little more than ANH.
But I still love all the Star Wars Movies (except the shitty prequels and the Holiday Special).
TheEmperor I don't agree with this list for myself but I can appreciate it.
People always hate on ROTJ, to me it is tied exactly with ANH, with a slight edge to ANH simply because it came first. "But Ewoks..."
Anyway, I think most people agree that ROTJ has to come in third out of the OT, and therefore it gets picked on when people want to make a hot take list with episode III or TFA in the top 3
(i like TFA, to me it's 4th as the OT is basically untouchable)
With rewatching the SW films recently my order of likeness is..
Empire Strikes Back
Rogue one
Revenge of the sith
A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
Attack of the clones
The Phantom menace
A New Hope( 2015).... Sorry I meant... The Force Awakens
TheEmperor Almost my exact list:
1. Empire
2. New Hope
3. Force Awakens
4. Jedi
5. Rogue One
6. Phantom
7. Sith
8. Clones
The prisoner transport was a turbo tank used during the clone wars
well, i loved it. it wasn't as good as force awakens. saw's story was a little sloppy but he was a great mirror image for darth vader, half-robotic guy who lost his humanity in war (seemingly) of the other side. whole movie supposed to be even darker or course. a director's cut i sense.
existential. anarchist other way around
existential. anarchist read the rogue one catalyst book it will most likely going to answer your questions about saw and how he met the Eros
existential. anarchist it was better than force awakens. It was original and not a copy and paste like ep 7.
Joseph Bailey So? I'd rather take a copy/paste film with great, characters, plot, cinematography, lighting and great dialogue than one that hardly had any of that. Rogue One was bland.
(and actually, Rogue One does copy/paste the citadel arc from The Clone Wars TV show just as much as TFA copies New Hope. It's not original)
I loved the reason given for the flaw in the Death Star (though that never bothered me). I also loved K2, and I agree that Jyn should have killed Krennic.
Loga Rugamon I thought the fact that his obsession and creation was what killed him. Just my opinion.
Yes that was full on karma at its best. You know tarkin bust a Viagra nut when he found out krennic was killed
Kenobi 2020
Yeah I get that, but I think it would have had the same effect if Jyn killed him on the top of the spire and the blast from the Death Star still blasted his body when the beam hit the spire.
I was thinking about it. I was wondering why Jyn didn't kill Krennic. But I feel that it was better that the thing Krennic worked hard for (the Death Star) was the cause of his demise. It's just a big middle finger to Krennic. That's how I see it
Gabr Garc actually Tarkin wanted to get rid of krennic for a long time and take over the Death Star so Tarkin actually got what he wanted he knew what he was doing
I love that you compared a labor camp to disneyworld
0:28 "boring conversation anyway" you should have left it there. "Luke we are gonna have company!" ruined it
Thank you for your honest review! Summed up exactly how I felt about rogue one
I think it is a better movie than TFA overall, but that's just my opinion
personally tfa first viewing was pleasurable but in the end on repeated viewing it got old real quick because it was a rehashed of a new hope. rogue one did a lot better on second and subsequent viewings because it took a new angle on star wars universe. i put rogue one slightly higher than tfa. i watched tfa 4 times. i'm probably gonna watch rogue one 5 times.
Paradox it truly is better.
This is why I enjoy this channel so much. Insightful real thoughts and opinions without the bullshit. Keep it up dude.
My mom didn't know Tarkin was CGI...... She thought he just had a lot of make up XD
Me too though I do need to wear glasses and it was 3D so I took them off
The combination for the shield gate is 1-2-3-4-5.
Are you going to do the Rebels reviews once again?
hell yeah for sure
I loved Rogue One. The first 20 or so minutes was has a bit choppy editing, and the first hour was a bit slow but I didn't mind it as it was building up to an awesome, satisfying, final hour.
I do prefer this to The Force Awakens, I just related to the characters more in Rogue One, these felt like real people and real people that I know. I related to Bodhi and Cassian a lot more than I did to Rey, Finn or Poe. K-2SO felt like that funny guy that always cracks jokes and makes me laugh, Chirrut felt like my overly-religious friend who has complete faith in his beliefs and follows them to be the best person he can, Baze felt my athiest friend who always makes fun of my other friends beliefs but still has some faith himself, etc. I felt connected to these characters more than I have any other Star Wars characters, and for that there was more connection to the movie and the mission, and more emotional impact when they each bit-the-dust. Not to mention, Rogue One actually has a original storyline which is more than what TFA can do which instantly gives it a point in my book.
And for those reasons, and many others, this is now I would rank Rogue One with the other films:
1# Empire Strikes Back (10/10)
2# Rogue One (9/10)
3# A New Hope (9/10)
4# The Force Awakens (8/10)
5# Return of the Jedi (7/10)
6# Revenge of the Sith (6/10)
7# Phantom Menace (3/10)
8# Attack of the Clones (1/10)
You know, it kind of feels like you're basing Tarkin's role on a special effect rather than his place in the story. If Tarkin was an actor with heavy makeup to make him look more like Peter Cushing, would you have the same complaints about Tarkin being in this movie?
Not remembering the name of characters is not saying anything. I rarely remember the names of characters even if they're from my favorite movies unless they're big budget franchise films that I love.
except for the character Development and Soundtrack i have not many complaints.
atleast for me the movie feels more necessary then Episode 7.
Force Awakens: 7/10
Rogue One: 8/10
- SPOILERS BELOW -
I think what really stood out to me with Rogue one was just how damn dark the movie was. Before viewing, I had an idea that a good chunk of people would die and maybe even all of them.
But At that final part at Scariff, with the Rebels scrambling is when it began. At that moment, the lead heroes knew their fate and knew they were going to die. Especially the final two, Felicity and Diego's Characters. Like it was the rapture, and you see the explosion from behind and it slowly incoming while they hold hands and hug, preparing for death. And top top it off, they revived Darth's badass quality.
I do feel they missed out on characterizing and emphasizing on these characters. Most felt relativity dull. And the beginning felt like it was jumping around a lot, like with that random truth-octopus.
Despite these flaws I still feel it was an awesome movie. I agree that it wasn't anything spectacular, or better than TFA. But I do feel like it succeeds beyond the prequels however doesn't top any of the originals. 8/10
I liked Diego Luna's character the best.
Mika the angry German same
I thought he was awful.
Yes, right from the very first scene he proved he is no pussy and has some balls. He is my favorite because he is not a super-man-hero guy.
Ewwww no. He is one of the worst SW characters... behind Jar Jar and Boss Nass.
So the labour camp is called Wobani, an anagram for Obi-Wan don't know if it's meant to mean anything
The names thing doesn't mean anything in my book, what movie that has 5+ mainish characters in it do you leave remembering all of their names after one viewing? It doesn't happen. Ask these people if they remember the guys names from saving private Ryan. Same thing lol
BOOFIRE191 nope. Those characters are ingrained in people's heads since birth nowadays. Nobody left a new hope after FIRST viewing knowing the whole cast of characters names.
I my self feel like this when it comes to the force awakens. It was just OK to me. I do think a lot of that had to do with just JJ Abrams being the director I did not think he was the right person to do it.
My whole family couldn't tell he was CGI. And no No NOO. Tarkin needed to be there God Damn it. Anyone who knows anything about the Death Star or Tarkin should understand that.
I may always agree with your opinions, but it sure is enjoyable listening to you as you back up your opinions with clarification. I know I am late to the game here, but I just found your channel a little bit ago. Thanks for the fun.
I enjoyed Rogue One much more than I did the Force Awakens. I left the theater after episode 7 feeling extremely underwhelmed, almost betrayed. With Rogue One, I didn't have feelings either way. It was just "okay".
personally i always check my expectation when i'm about to watch something really big like star wars. it helps me to enjoy it more and not being too nitpicky about the movie. i enjoy both tfa and rogue 1, and even fantastic beasts.
I tried to do the same. However, in the end I still couldn't enjoy TFA.
A lot of people say that I’m a loser for this, but my least favorite Star Wars movie is Rogue One. I mean, if you can even really call it a Star Wars movie. Here are my reasons:
1. They had Forrest Whitaker, and Saw Gerrera is one of the most important characters, but he only has 10 minutes of screen time.
2. Tarkin really makes me uneasy. The CGI really is off feeling, and I feel like bringing an actor back from the dead is, in my opinion, completely unethical.
3. The story bounced around different places, each place getting so little screen time. They could have explored Wobani, Jedha, Yavin, and Scarif, but it was like they said, “Okay, we’re here! Onto the next place.”
4. I hated the cheap nostalgia and cameos in there. “Hey! There’s Ponda Baba and Dr Evazan! They were in A New Hope!” “Guardians of the Whills! Cool, I read that book!” “Squadrons reporting in! They did that in the original movies!” “Bail Organa! He was in the prequels!”
The movie itself was really just a fanboy pleaser cash grab, and really did nothing to push the story of Star Wars forward in really any way.
Honestly making a Death Star movie without Tarkin is like making a Clone Wars movie without any clones. You gotta have it. It's so integral to what it is. And that's not just because of Catalyst. That's the canon. Tarkin's involvement with the station needs to be seen in a film this close to A New Hope. You don't wanna watch this and then see Episode IV introduce Tarkin's involvement with the Death Star there.
His involvement in Rogue One also made Krennic's role make more sense. The political drama between them-Krennic wanting to be credited for the station, but Tarkin knowing he has the power to take it over-was great and led into ANH perfectly.
Did Tarkin *have* to be CGI? That's where I won't argue. If you didn't like it, hey fair enough. I thought it was brilliant despite not looking totally real. It honestly would have been more jarring for me if he had been portrayed by a different actor since these films are neck-and-neck in the timeline, but to each his own.
There's my little Tarkin rant lol
meh to me tarkin was like legolas or galandriel in the hobbit film, out side the fact that they were alive in that time, they both had no reason to be in the story. you don't need to read the book to understand this
I really like that you do reviews multiple times by watching it multiple times. Thanks for the new perspective.
It was so badass when Vader threw the rebel trooper on the ceiling and cut him in half. Am I the only one who noticed this?
you noticed when he repeals a blaster fire and kill the rebel with it? that was amazing throwback to empire when he blocks han's shoot
I was waiting for your second video, I am so happy that I was able to find your channel a while back. A true honest opinion is really hard to find. I will continue to support you any way I can !
Keep it up bud !
Is it safe to say that this is still your favorite of the "Star Wars prequels"
okay so i recently started getting into star wars like crazy and i came across your channel today and you have become my favorite youtuber by far
I feel like Krennick's demise is better if it's at the hands of his own weapon rather than by revenge. The latter is just too expected and not as satisfying as one would think. The utter humiliation that comes with Krennick being killed by his own people, consciously, is way more satisfying.
I love your channel HelloGreedo... you have a great appreciation of Star Wars and it's Lore... and I love your a great fan like so many of us.. keep up the good work
I agree with everything you have said in both your reviews 👍👍
(Especially how Surprised I am by everyone's protective reaction)
The solution for Tarkin would have been really easy.
They should have just showed him via hologram-transmission...
As puppetmaster in the background.
Where I'm from a 70 out of a 100 is a B so that's pretty good. Personally I loved Rogue One, it was something new and different and I've only seen it twice but I'm planning to go again. The ending is pretty sad with jyn but I feel the original cut before the reshoot had somewhat of a different ending for those characters as in the trailers it showed jyn and casian running at the at acts with the data tape but who knows.
True, and strange
As always, great video HelleGreedo! :)
My personal current Star Wars best to worst list is:
The Empire Strikes Back
A New Hope
The Force Awakens
Rogue One
Return of the Jedi
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones
The Phantom Menace
Ross T agree 100%!!!
***** The reason TPM is my least favourite is because I can't stand Jar Jar and child Anakin, the only part I like is the final fight with Maul. Also, do you really think R2 and 3PO in the desert drags? It's not really that long before they meet Luke.
Ross T I my opinion, R2 and 3-po in the desert is one of the most realistic parts of all Star Wars, even if it drags. It really creates the feeling of being lost on an alien planet and makes you sense how far away from everything they are. The music is really fantastic and quite unique in the Star Wars films. I think the prequels and newer films do not set up new planets and locations as Tatooine and the rest of the original trilogy, and also the first Ewoks film did. Most films make things happen to fast and don't set the scenes well enough, in my opinion.
My personal current Star Wars Best to Worst list:
The Phantom Menace
Rogue One
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi
A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
The Force Awakens
John Doe You think that TPM was better than the original trilogy and TFA?
Saga Films:
ANH: 7/10
Empire: 9.8/10
RotJ: 8/10
TFA: 8.5/10
Spin off:
R1: 6/10
I can respect HelloGreedo's opinions, but I'm not sure I agree with him on thinking the Beginning/middle of the movie was sluggish. I thought that portion was pretty well paced in my opinion.
It's fine to dislike it, be unmoved, like, or love the film. I think some people are still in prequel shock
Noire Requiem II Yes I agree
The Star Wars fan base can never agree on anything, it seems.
true
RiceDuke Most of us can agree that Darth Vader is a great villain, ESB is great, and Jar Jar is annoying if you're not a kid.
Very true, although some people think Empire is boring.
Empire has the best acting and character development in Star Wars. However, Empire has a small, very limited plot where not much of any gravitas happens versus Vader's reveal and Han's kidnapping. To me it's not enough which is why the huge serving of plot in Episode III makes that one my favorite of all.
That I can agree with you on.
I still think the farce awakens is worse than the phantom menace. so this has to be better...
sw1000xg are you sure about that?
Triaim TPM is misguided. TFA makes me angry...
sw1000xg heck no, (IMO) TFA blew away the prequels
J Hamstra yeah
sw1000xg I have no idea how you think phantom pain is good, I've heard of a like 7 hour cut or something that was godly but the base movie is just bad
It was okay movie, I definitely cringed whenever Forest Whitaker spoke
Loved your shirt with the Black Flag reference! (Oh, and great video too c:)
It is the best Star Wars movie ever. It's even better and darker than Empire Strikes Back....
I feel like you conveyed your opinions way better in this video, helped me understand your opinion on the movie. I want to go see it a second time myself, but from my first viewing I adored it.
I still feel like Tarkin had a place though. If he was the "big bad" of ANH, then he needed to be the big bad in the store that takes place literal days prior. As the head of the Death Star in ANH, I feel like it would be too difficult to write him out of this film where, once again, the Death Star is a main plot point. I feel like the CGI was great, and while I CAN'T be convinced that Peter Cushing was really there because I KNOW he wasn't, it was solid. Leia though? I agree with the "should have just been a profile shot". Would have been more powerful in my opinion, and less obvious it was CGI. I still respect your opinion though, I can see how it's jarring to some.
Great video Greedo, love the opening!
You saw TFA 6 times?!
MrSmilesCam I watch TFA every other month i live it rouge one was okay but has boring parts
MrSmilesCam i saw it in theaters 7 times in December lol
MrSmilesCam great movie unless you ask the contrarians
TFA is a great movie? Hahahaha. It was mildly entertaining at best; a derivative, unoriginal slap in the face at worst.
XBlueM0ndayX that's your negative opinion I like it
I think the "truth octopus" is loosely based on creatures from HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu stories. both the creature's appearance and its psychological powers were ripped straight from one of his short stories.
The book Rogue One Catalyst is canon, so it kind of has to dictate the movie.
Phenomenal review (not just because I agree with you, but because it's truthful and well explained). Keep it up!
I don't think it's so much about people blindly loving rogue one, it's more about people liking rogue one much more than force awakens. I remember seeing so much criticism for force awakens when it came out because it was pretty much a soft reboot, but rogue one has either had like warm receptions or very very good ones, the people who said force awakens sucked are saying they loved rogue one. I noticed this while I was watching rogue one, I laughed much more at rogue ones funny moments than force awakens, all those laughs weren't forced but involuntary, and at the end I clapped, again it was like I wanted to clap, where for the force awakens I felt like I had to clap cuz everyone else did. Since watching rogue one I've been noticing the problems with force awakens more and more, and while I don't hate force awakens, the film did and DOES have more problems than rogue one.
I LOVE THAT BEGINNING YOU NAILED IT SO GOOD!
6:41 Well, that's where you'd be wrong bucko. That's how the new canon works. The movies can't mess with the books, and the books can't mess with the movies. They all have to align with each other because they're all equally canon. You'd know that if you READ AND REVIEWED THE STUFF. Tons of us have only been asking for like the past 100 videos if you could read the new stuff and give us your thoughts on it, or watch Rebels or even The Clone Wars finally. You would actually like the new stories. You said you would read Catalyst after you watched Rogue One, but I doubt that's happening. Especially after your opinion of the movie. Having the Death Star without Tarkin is like having a Captain America movie without the shield. It's not right. I'm sorry that so many seem to not realize this for some reason and have no idea who or what Tarkin is despite watching A New Hope. Come on guys.
I purposefully didn't watch the trailers for Rogue One to get the best experience possible, and honestly, that really improved it for me. I had no idea about Jyns parents, about the rescue mission, or really anything related to Galen, which really made the mystery in the first act much more engaging for me.
I did not even notice tarken ... and I study digital art for heaven sakes
Hmmm take another subject...
-_-
electrocat1 I watched it in the middle row Imax
I agree with everything you said except the very last thing, but I am glad to see there is someone else who liked Rogue One without loving every second, and I'm glad you have enough self-worth to stick to your own opinions instead of jumping on either of the polarized bandwagons.
Force Awakens was just a cheap safe knockoff of the original trilogy
no it wasn't
atleast it's more original than your comment
And Rogue One wasn't? Rofl. People pretend that Rogue One wasn't just as safe, if not safer. They eliminated the problem that fantards had with TFA, fan service that didn't fit the time period. So they just made a prequel to Episode 4 and that gave them a perfect excuse to include loads of unnecessary shit such as AT ATs, AT STs, Death Troopers, Clone Turbo Tanks, Doctor Evazan and Pondo Baba.
M Phylo rogue one a prequel to the original trilogy dumbo
King Ross
Yep... That's what I just said...Dumbooo
Hellogreedo can't handle new things, he only love The force awakens because it's similar to A New Hope
Darth Binks But he didn't even notice the similarities between TFA and ANH until he looked at reviews
SpringThatTrap still he hate or don't like almost all new things in star wars
Darth Binks What do you mean? He liked Rogue One, not hate. He seems to really like the new stuff except for the Prequels -can I even call those new?- So eh
Darth Binks Also I love your username and profile pic
