La Dessalinienne est l'hymne national d'Haïti, adopté comme tel en 1904. Justin Lhérisson a écrit les paroles sur une musique de Nicolas Geffrard (1761-1806), ancien Général, acteur de l'indépendance haïtienne en 1804. L'hymne tire son nom de Jean-Jacques Dessalines, premier empereur d'Haïti et un des « pères » de son indépendance. Remarquons que 97 ans sépare la mort du Compositeur au texte, ce qui revient à dire que la musique n'a pas été à l'origine composée à titre d'hymne national.
La Dessalinienne succéda, comme hymne national, à Quand nos Aïeux brisèrent leurs entraves, qui était le précédent hymne national haïtien.

La Dessalinienne is the national anthem of Haiti, adopted as such in 1904. Justin Lhérisson wrote the lyrics with music by Nicolas Geffrard (1761-1806), former General, actor of Haitian independence in 1804. The hymn is named after Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Haiti's first emperor and one of the "fathers" of independence. Note that 97 years separates the death of the composer to the text, which means that the music was not originally composed as an national anthem.
La Dessalinienne succeeded, as the national anthem, to Quand nos Aïeux brisèrent leurs entraves, who was the former Haitian national anthem.
