I wish my vet would dispense a little pre-filled methadone syringe for my ferocious 17yo. Taking him in, having the vet tech restrain and the vet herself trim his very thick claws is a nightmare for all of us. He's an old ex-feral, canine teeth are raggedy broke and NOBODY wants to get a bite from him, though he's willing to give them freely! He is such a sweetheart otherwise.
if you leave the cats nails alone on accident until they puncture his paw and almost go through will the cat die? And will it be bad to take him to the vet?
I know this is late, but I'll try to answer. Vet student here, so I may be wrong. But no, the cat will not die from a puncture wound to the paw pad, or even the paw itself. The animal may die from infection due to the claw going through, but the act itself will not kill them. The cat would be in IMMENSE pain, and would be walking improperly to try and get any pain off of that paw. This in turn would lead to arthritis and improper whole body position. It would be a bad idea NOT to take him to the vet. Vets, while expensive, would be able to help this animal out and decrease pain, all while putting the paw back to proper shape.
I LOVE his little paws in that water bowl lol just chillin on methadone getting a manicure

Going in with Methoden preemptively? That is so american... my vet would try it with a calm atmosphere first.
