  • We've all seen it. Whether at a car show, on a race track, or just cruising down the highway, there are plenty of fast cars that have flames shooting out their tailpipe. However, it requires cars of a certain caliber or with specific modifications to get the fireworks going. We explore what those are.

    Is BMW's twinpower turbo techonolgy considered as an anti-lag system similarly to the one mentioned in the video?
    Because my F56 JCW Mini has one and it pops and bangs, but never spit fire. My guess is that that the only restriction it has is the catalytic converter (Just the downpipe cat, not the 2nd cat most cars have due to European regulations), resonator and muffler (Just the downpipe cat, not the 2nd cat most cars have due to European regulations). It has the stock exhaust.
    However, the JCW Pro exhaust has a resonator delete, and it's a valvetronic system with one is considered a straight pipe exhaust when the valve is open except for the downpipe cat presence. Still, I've seen people install this exhaust on their cars and it doesn't spit fire. Some have even got a catless downpipe for the exhaust, and still not fire at the exhaust. I'm really clueless what's causing it not to spit fire...
    I mean it has a performance JCW tune, a turbo with Twinpower turbo technology (that I'm guessing works similarly to anti-lag systems). catless straight pipe, short exhaust, because it's short car uses no less than 91 octane gas. So, what could be the reason preventing it from spitting out flames?

      @maxwell5428 2 года назад +1

      I’d imagine you’d have to be fully catless. It could be that your mini is just shooting baby flames. Have you tried setting up a camera at night time or in a dark place?

    • @B1SQ1T
      @B1SQ1T 2 года назад +1

      Think of flames as just more extreme pops and bangs, you still have fuel being ignited at the end of ur exhaust which is the pops and bangs but there probably just isnt enough fuel for a massive flame

    • @HemlockHK
      @HemlockHK Год назад +2

      BMW's twinpower turbo technology refers to the fact that it uses a twin scroll turbocharger (a turbo that has 2 chambers in the exhaust side with 2 opposing cylinders attached to each chamber). This allows the turbo to more efficiently use the exhaust pulses to steadily build momentum and thus achieve boost faster.
      The anti-lag on these engines in factory setup are tied to the transmission computer programming in that it only activates on high demand during shifts (often referred to as DSG farts) when you hear that stutter from the exhaust during shifts.
      The pops in your exhaust won't shoot flames with catalytic converters or with stock tuning, you will need a custom tune for that.
      Hope this helps.....

    • @itzshark6737
      @itzshark6737 2 года назад

      Yeah this man doesn't know any thing.most of the time front engine,front mid engine,rear mid engine,rear engine cars can doesn't so much with backfire/afterfire. Forced induction or not that doesn't matter a lot as well.(forced induction means using a turbo/supercharger). Nowadays even sports cars have catalytic converters most of the times cars that can backfire are modified and tuned like deleting the muffler and deleting the catalytic converters. And tuned to make the spark plugs fire late so most of the fuel exits the the combustion chamber unburned and burns at the exaust tip.

    • @itzshark6737
      @itzshark6737 2 года назад

      There is another thing called 2 step that cause small puffs of fire and makes that gunshot sound that is a rev limiter that is used to hold the revs at the point where u have the can get the most power to the ground. It holds the revs by holding back the spark plug firing time. Again this causes unburned fuel out of the exaust tip.

    • @itzshark6737
      @itzshark6737 2 года назад

      Na mid engine sports cars can backfire like normal that's how lamborghinis backfire.the only lamborghini with turbos is the lamborghini suv the urus. other cars like the huracan the aventador the countach is naturally aspirated thy can backfire
