Thanks for this video. I have 2 original pentax M42 adapters and they work well. But i've heard several horror stories of folks who use non pentax adapters that have become trapped on the mount. The issue is that little spring loaded "locking piece" that you need to fold back to release it. If that breaks or cannot be moved to rlease the adapter, you are in a bit of a pickle. Soem people prefer to remove the piece of metal all together (it's just screwed on with a small screw). But that means the adapter is not fixed into the mount, so you solve one potential problem, and create another one. Moral? Go with official pentax adapter i guess.

There's just some things you absolutely can't skimp out on. The M42 adapter is definitely one of them.

My Pentax M42 adapter is made in the Philippines, not Japan. Works perfectly all the same.

i bought 2 third party m42 k adapters and both are not working well. it will lock at 12 o'clock position but when i screw in the lens it'll rotate further and lock at 5 o'clock position. But it's still not a secure fit and both lens and adaptor will easily fall off the camera... but if i install the m42 adapter in anti clockwise motion instead of clockwise, it will lock properly at 5 o'clock position and works fine but it's not facing upwards so i got to see things and adjust at 5 o'clock position... and others are saying it can potentially stay locked and never come off giving bigger problems... it's quite frustrating and i can't understand why third party manufacturers can't manufacturer this dead piece of metal to make it work right... it's not a smart adapter with electronics involved... it's just a simple metal adapter ring with a locking mechanism... it shouldn't be that hard to make it work properly right? anyway i guess i got to fork out and pay a full price for pentax original piece for a price more expensive than I paid for the lenses :( :( :( .... funny to think a metal ring will cost more than excellent Asahi lenses with superb optics

I don't get why it's so hard to make either. Sorry you've gone through this though. Check eBay, it's probably the cheapest place.

@@KobieMC my order for a pre-owned genuine Pentax M42 K adapter arrived today and it fits beautifully. Gives a confidant click when mounting on the body and doesn't need a tool to remove it either. Lenses screw in and stays snugly tight. Everything works perfectly now but just a small abnormal thing I notice is lenses don't sit 100% up right, may be around 11.30 position when they are fully screwed and tightened

Do you need to stop down for metering?

Yes you do. Time for the Pentax green button 👍🏽

Will a K & F equivalent adapter be suitable? I doubt I could source an original Pentax adapter.

It will work, make sure it comes with the tool though just in case.
