Respect! The 92 year old design still rocks! It held and still holds records in every form of racing, land or water. Guys like Don Garlits, Victor Edelbrock, Ed Iskendarian, Stu Hillborn, Bruce Crower, Doug Thorley, etc. Etc. Cut their teeth on these! John Dilinger even wrote a letter to Henry Ford praising the Flathead V8!
Nitro fixes that inefficient combustion cycle. Amazing sound and fury, and congrat's to the engine builder for making this survive at these power levels!
I can't believe there are people that didn't like this. This is almost as old school as you can get. Damned thing is fast...... real fast to be what it is..........
That's because you simply don't get it Nicholas. Exactly like many people who don't get hot rodding & racing altogether. Same thing. These flat head fanciers are NOT "wasting their time". Plus you act like "300 hp" "is nothing"........Shows how little you know. I challenge you to hunt down a tweaked '87 Buick GNX with meek to moderate upgrades.........nothing "too crazy".....not talking about the ones that are so modded they really aren't the same motor & car anymore. Just find one that's been tweaked just right. Should be makin' right around 300 hp. You'll get your damned doors blown off. Because while you're sitting there spinning your tires on the launch "with all your hp".........That Grand National will leave you like you were tied to a post. Go ahead. I dare you..........then just maybe you'll learn something about "power is NOTHING without control". Or you can look 'em up here on youtube, just destroying most everything on the 1/4 mile, and save yourself the humiliation. See YT video title: "Getting Passed by a Grand National Like I'm Going in The Opposite Direction". You'll find it. I believe its a 2006 Camaro built for the 1/4 mile, complete with roll-cage and he's the one with in-car camera. That GN passed him so fast, and by at least 8 or more car lengths, it looks unreal. The GN ran 9's @ 150 mph. And probably had 1/2 the hp of the Camaro. The Camaro owner/driver posted the video on his own channel. The FACTORY STOCK Buick GN's & GNX's OUTRAN EVERY FACTORY CAR ON EARTH, from 0 to 60 AND in the 1/4 mile, including EVERY V8 and Ferrari, Porsche, Lambo, etc, that ALL made far more hp. Those factory Buicks weren't even making 300 hp. LOOK IT UP. Truly good mechanics & racers respect what other people are running. You can always spot the immature and/or inexperienced guys, because they're always harping against everything "they don't personally like".....nor do they understand. The Ford flat-head V-8 was the fastest & among the most reliable engines of it's time. Especially after they worked the bugs out of block casting & improved the oil pan after the very 1st run off the line revealed the problems.
Wow! Thanks for the ride! I would really like to know how you built that flattie. I have a stock 239. Mine will stay basically stock but, I would like to know how you got yours so powerful. Simply amazing.
Just curious, would changing to a rear engine setup (same engine) be beneficial for higher speed / lower et? My thoughts are better chassis balance and chassis tuning than the older digger chassis. Just askin'.
Congratulations to all. I can remember the announcer at the old strip in New Brighton referring to a run by Tommy Hoover that dipped into the 7's as being in "The Twilight Zone."
Does it have an extra pair of exhaust pipes coming out of the top for the middle cylinders? I gather that's a relatively recent speed trick for Flatheads - it helps open up the long constricted exhaust passages through the block.
Actually a rather old trick, done since the 50s anyway. The center exhaust ports would be split, one now routed out the top, the other out the original port. Those may be the top port exhaust pipes just under the blower at mid engine.
7 I've seen that dragster with the Flathead run if it's the same one Rick out at b i r Brainerd International Raceway that thing is just awesome thanks for the pics and all the work it takes to build something like that amazing
The Martin and Rea blown Alky flathead here in New Zealand ran A best of (from memory), 8.39@159. It would often pull the front wheels way up, and was raced for many years.
fear not, I have built many for oval tracks loose as a goose class A division = never had one come undone they are forgiving....................................
I wonder what kind of black magic they have to get all of them ponies out of that old motor and keep it from flying apart. stock flathead was about 110 HP
Henry's first race car was a 1903 18.9 liter, 1,156 cu in 4 cylinder that made somewhere between 75 and 100 hp. The pistons were bigger around than gal paint cans!
When I I saw this vid, it made my blood boil ! I'm patiently awaiting your build of my EAB. Certainly it will never dyno at 900, but I'm crossing my fingers for 300.
Is that for 1320 feet (quarter mile) or for a1000 feet?. My old dragster was owned by Stan Lomilino and it set the national record in 1967 at 9.00 160 mph at the Indy Nationals. No transmission and injected. 98% Nitro 2% alcohol. I learned a lot of tricks for flatheads from that guy.
This and all our runs were 1/4 mile,. Back in the 90’s we raced against Joe Hendricks who had an in-line Ford 6 with a pieced together Cleveland head. I believe Stan was part of his crew.
I bet but I wouldn't know how they would do it but it has more than 3 mains. That engine broke recorin bowling green but the would let know body see the internals of that engine.

900 HP from an old flathead is incredible...just shows how much potential they have.
Potential? Without that blower pushing 15 pounds of boost the thing would be down to 300. Could never waste my time making a performance flathead.

To make a Ford Flathead withstand 15 pounds of boost... that is pure Hot rodding. Some people can't be happy doing average stuff.
Curious Betsy vlogs it actually makes 23 pounds... I know I’m a bit late but still, you’re just mad your new car can’t keep up with an old flathead ;)

I love it! The flathead Ford is the coolest engine ever built and I run a McCulloch supercharged 41 engine in my 32.
just realized why they call it dragster. its from the fact that anyone that is willing to drive one has balls so big that they drag on the ground. lol
Lol amen!
Ole flathead getting it done!!
Fun ride and a fabulous sound.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Mike & Robin
Wow! Thanks for the ride! I would really like to know how you built that flattie. I have a stock 239. Mine will stay basically stock but, I would like to know how you got yours so powerful. Simply amazing.
How exactly do you keep the crank inside the oil pan? Seems like you must have one hell of a girdle setup.
That's great, must be doing a lot of things right, and looks and sounds good to...love it!
Keep it up "Worlds Quickest Flathead"
Just curious, would changing to a rear engine setup (same engine) be beneficial for higher speed / lower et? My thoughts are better chassis balance and chassis tuning than the older digger chassis. Just askin'.
Who would want to?
My eyes just popped out! That's a fast flathead engine!
Out of curiosity, what kind of transmission is it running?
wow ! My first car (in 1963) 1949 Ford coupe V8 3 speed stick ~ put on aluminum heads & 2 carb intake, I loved it !
Congratulations to all. I can remember the announcer at the old strip in New Brighton referring to a run by Tommy Hoover that dipped into the 7's as being in "The Twilight Zone."
Now that is a hot rod.
Big thumbs up.
Sweet sounds even after he shuts off the engine. Very nice
Flathead forever 900 horsepower, this is what I am talking!
Coolest dragster in world ever :)
Benny Jakobsen I agree! something just totally awesome in getting so much grunt from a flattie!
way cooler than one of those jet engine dragsters
I was at BIR a few years ago when Rick's son made that run. Fun to watch.
Just googled Martin and Rea Flathead Dragster, and turned out it was an 8.29 run !!
Beautiful slow nostalgia ...... I love it!
That was RAD. Sounded so sweet
Was it a quarter mile?
WOW! All empty grandstands. What a pity. Very cool Flatty.
7 I've seen that dragster with the Flathead run if it's the same one Rick out at b i r Brainerd International Raceway that thing is just awesome thanks for the pics and all the work it takes to build something like that amazing

Awesome work guys!
Very impressive. But empty grandstands? People would pay to see this I would!
It was at an MSRA event. Not a large crowd.
Man them old flattys sound good
Love the station wagon, that's one long beast.
900 on 24# of boost is like 375 na. A flathead making that much is unreal i love it
fear not, I have built many for oval tracks loose as a goose class A division = never had one come undone
they are forgiving....................................
I would love to see all the internals ❤
What type of transmission set up ?
I wonder what kind of black magic they have to get all of them ponies out of that old motor and keep it from flying apart. stock flathead was about 110 HP
Congrats Guys from everyone @ RavenWorks
Congrats:) Very impressive:) Really, really hope to get my Flathead down in the 9 sec ET. Next weekend:)? Have you Dyno'd the engine? HP?
...WOW...that's cool...thanks for the video...
Sa-WEET! brutal tire shake too.
flatheads forever they rule
Was 1/4 or 1/8 miles run?
That's a quarter mile run
Must be billet EVERYTHING in that engine! Including the block and heads!
Old Henry would be dumbstruck !!
And pissed off at Jews...
Henry's first race car was a 1903 18.9 liter, 1,156 cu in 4 cylinder that made somewhere between 75 and 100 hp. The pistons were bigger around than gal paint cans!
Epic. Flatheads rule.
Great video
Nitro =power
i got sucked in i thought it was a single CYLINDER engine-----single engine indeed----they all got single engines
When I I saw this vid, it made my blood boil ! I'm patiently awaiting your build of my EAB. Certainly it will never dyno at 900, but I'm crossing my fingers for 300.

very cool

well done flatty

awsome
WAYYYYYYYY COOL!!!!
...O, and fastest too...Nice
True flat head! No, Arduns!
Why does it make so much noise and idle so rough?
John Adams it's praying to the gods of internal combustion...
aggressive cam profiles tend to make an engine struggle to make power at low RPM
Nitromethane fuel and hi compression
love it
simply awesome
Warp speed!!!
Well damn!
i should put gears on my foot and not leave the steering wheel.
That was so koool
Real Fords don't have valve covers....😂
See me can you see me now?
That's pure sex !
Knows the guy who built this,,,:)
And only 3main bearings 😅
I bet but I wouldn't know how they would do it but it has more than 3 mains. That engine broke recorin bowling green but the would let know body see the internals of that engine.
thats soo cool but flat heads were not used in dragsters much i believe
