Note to anyone just starting off with bikes don't keep the kickstart depressed as you will knack the return spring. Not telling this owner how to suck eggs but standing with your weight on the Kickstarter your can hear the spring tightening and whining..not good. Should have full choked and advanced timing IMO..
@kevinburk7861 It's not a good practice for any kick-start motorcycle. It can munch up your whole starter mechanism. Just listen to it when he holds it down, you can hear it.
Gotta tell one on myself about an untucked shoelace loop... You haven't lived until one of them gets stuck over the end of your shifting lever, & can't put that foot down. ~DU69160
I did better than that, just ridden my bike in to get serviced, got on the shop loaner and headed up the road. Stopped at a red light and fell over. Forgot I didn't have a sidebar attached, 😢
1964 .Yes a lot of money back then .I was in a good job in london and had a new mini. Was earning about £25 ,a week .Hard to equate that these days.@NigelOrmsvik
@A. Fox (Guitarman) It was not known as "The Beast" for nothing, mine once threw me over the handlebars back in 1964. Hammond really had no idea how to handle one properly.
@NigelOrmsvik that settles it. Had my right foot crushed and my 1450 does it to the starter on rare occasions but my thumb is fine. Mine was made 10/98, demonstrator FXDL sold through dock gate 20 so probably came from Warrs of London. It'll be historic one day but I think of it as new.
My grandad left one of these along with 2 other rare bikes in the garage of his old house when he moved out, god knows why because they ran just fine (my dad used to use them without asking)
What rpm is peak torque, how much torque to the wheel ,how light is the machine, how aerodynamic is the bike, how tall is top gear. How efficient is the valve train and is it tuned for peak torque at peak rpm. This is what made it have an incredible top speed.
I love British bike's and own a few but these things are way over priced for what they are , anything V twin has a nasty price tag in todays market . Not worth the money .
I owned a 1955 Black Shadow. I had the engine disassembled and balanced. BIG performance difference.
that engine! Is a piece of artwork !
My buddy has one of these 1948.
Its immaculate.

When was the last time you started a Vincent Black Shadow?

That bike is beautiful!!
Fantastic 👍

I don’t wear lace boots. In the 70s I rode with a guy who got his stupid bell bottoms pants legs caught in the shifter at a stop light! 😹🙀😹🙀

Much LOVE😊
Beautiamus!
WhatNo tacho.?
Sooner stick to my Autocycle, or early James Comet 😀
Shame they cost so much If they were twenty grand i would get one
Mine cost £135 in 1964, and that was a lot of money, took me 3 months to save up for doing 2 jobs.
Mine cost me £140, but it needed work!

Good job it didn't kick back 🤔

No electric start?
I'll give you £1,000 for it.
Lol you have no idea
Are you "here all week"?
Lol😂
You can get an electric starter fitted at The Vincent Workshop.
It's a beautiful bike, but I had no idea it only made 55 hp out of 1000cc. A Harley Sportster can beat that.
That is 7bhp more than the 1200cc Panhead if we compare what was being made in 1948.
Try to follow that bike with a sportster !
It's from the 50s..

You clearly know very little about Vincents, let alone ever ridden on.
And that my friends why electric start is brilliant 😂😂🥷
Not everyone’s a Nancy boy, some of us are real men 😊
I had my right foot crushed and don't fancy starting a black shadow with the left, even more so if it's warm/hot.
Did your mother have any kids who lived?
And thats what getting to know uoure bikes all about ,if you just got in to bikes before they went all electronic and fuel injection u missed out .
