Very hard work put into this video, which is one of the reasons I just purchased this camera. When you talk extemporaneously, you bring up what first pops into your mind, which some of the critics below just don't appreciate. I hope you produce more videos, which I think are great.
Best camera design ever. All the knobs are thr place they should be. Cannot find any faults whosoever... Simply falling in love with the Hunchback of Solms! Mine is working flawlessly so far. Planning to buy another one just in case to be prepared should any part fails. Does anyone know where I can service my camera in the future ? Thanx, happy shooting and stay safe!
Good job! Got one & love it too. It's worth a mention that there are digital backs for this camera, albeit too expenisve compared to what you can get nowadays. Arguably, the most one of the most advanced 35mm SLR's ever made
Pozdrawiam Autora kanału i życzę dużo radości z posiadanego aparatu i pięknych zdjęć. Dziękuję. I have one R8 from last batch (it´s from the end of 2001) and after 20 years of use work like they work in the first day. Very solid camera and fits very well in the hands ,also the ergonomics are great because I can make all the settings in the camera whitout leave my eye in of the viewfinder. Is simply a joy to use . The only thing I don´t like is the fact that the R8 is so much heavy.
Accidentally set the multi exposure bitten and rewound. Forced it a little before I realized I hit the wrong switch. Camera seems to be working normally. Do you have any idea what potential damage this could have done?
Great information. I would like to know: 1. Does the camera come in gray, or, black only, 2. If you use "regular", non-rom lenses, can you use aperture and shutter speed priority, what can rom-lenses do that "regular lenses nanotubes do???? Thanks
Hahaha. Don´t worry. Most of the critics are from people who don´t know Jack Shit about real cameras. I got this R8 too with a winder and a 75-200mm. It´s one of 3 Leicas, 1 Nikon and 2 Canon, and not only for collection. And this little dent in the ring of the lens doesn´t affect the quality of the pictures of a Leica, unlike some cheap digital new cams most critics might be used to. But people, who can´t even make complete sentences, surely won´t understand that either. This is a review with explanation of some antique camera. What most people don´t understand is, that this should NOT be a comparison to any modern digital camera. This is a review of an enthusiast who likes to collect old cameras. Well done.
Short explanation: "Full frame" is a term used in cinematography to denote the act of capturing pictures by fixing the film gate at its maximum width and height. The standard technical specifications of "full frame" for 35 mm film are an aspect ratio of 3:2, camera aperture of 0.980” by 0.735” and projection aperture (silent) of 0.931” by 0.698”. Cameras employing "full-frame" technology are more popular and are considered to be advantageous for taking high-resolution images. "Medium format" has traditionally referred to a film format in still photography and the related cameras and equipment that use film. Generally, the term applies to film and digital cameras that record images on media larger than 24 by 36 mm ("full-frame"; used in 35 mm photography), but smaller than 4 by 5 inches (which is considered to be "large-format" photography). LOL
Outclasses how? Frames per second? Yes. Metering ability? No. The metering in the R8 is awesome. Build quality? No. Above Nikon or Canon offerings. Lenses? No way. It was discontinued because it was replaced by the R9. In terms of the grip, the reviewer specifically mentions how comfortable the grip is, but maybe you have small hands.

I have to say, the build quality seems great but the grip doesn't seem comfortable. Japanese SLR at the same era completely outclass this technologically. I guess that's why it was discontinused

It's nice to see a well lit video. You can see the black details of the camera and the hands are not blown out.

I bought the R8 when it first came out to replace my R7 which I barely liked. The R8 immediately became the most astounding SLR I have ever used!

The only thing I don´t like is the fact that the R8 is so much heavy.
The Design of the R8 is perfect
I received mine just a few days ago. I always end up in this channel 🤩
I have a few Tamron adaptall lenses. What adapter should I get to get those lenses working with the R8 or R9?
The ‘unknown’ lever is for the so called “independent mirror release” aka mirror-up mode...
The Minolta Maxxum 9 is a wonderful SLR, the R8 reminds me of it a little.
What a gorgeous camera! Great video you make me want one GAS station indeed!
It was the Pentax MZ-S with the slant top, controversial design when it came out, but now seems brilliant, nice review!
Accidentally set the multi exposure bitten and rewound. Forced it a little before I realized I hit the wrong switch. Camera seems to be working normally. Do you have any idea what potential damage this could have done?
Wonderful R8. I have a R4s and it is wonderful!
Does it make sense to use R8 or R9 with old (non-electronic) lenses?
Great information. I would like to know: 1. Does the camera come in gray, or, black only, 2. If you use "regular", non-rom lenses, can you use aperture and shutter speed priority, what can rom-lenses do that "regular lenses nanotubes do???? Thanks
Yes, they do come in a grey/ silver colour..I prefer my black one as it isnt noticed as much when your'e out shooting.
how do the R lenses compare with the M lenses? I think it would look nice on my X-Pro1
Hi! Just a quick question, Have you ever had battery draining problems with the R8? Thanks!
Just put up my review of the Zenit 412DX. Definitely takes some styling cues from the R8.
I use my 35-70 on my X-pro 1 and get really nice results. I really do like the R glass!
Yeah, for what they pay me, and how much you paid to watch this video, I should be doing a much better job. My apologies...

The lense has a damaged inner ring from what I can see, did you drop the lens or bang it against a wall or something?
Yes but is it heavy and well built? How well does it fit your hands?
Do you know if the leica sf20 or nikon sb 900 can work on the R8 without damage it ans in TTL mode?
Full Frame?
LOVE THE FILM TYPE REWINDER!!!!
Ha! Been looking for one...they seem to be a little pricey... I will keep looking for one tho!
a full frame 35mm camera???? Never heard of one. lol
You do realize that there are also half-frame 35mm cameras, right?
Haha yes, this intro ! I guess it helps with people coming from digital too... but sounds a bit weird here.

What about leica R Digitale Module? where can i buy it?
I have seen it on E-bay for about 2.000,-$. That´s unfortunately not a bargain anymore.
Hello, Nice review. I'll receive mine tomorow!
very strong camera, i hope for a cheaper R10 version in digital (not as the S2).
I have an R9 - SUPERB!!!!
compared to contax rtsiii
nice view...the only thing is, why start a camera review by talking about accesories like winders and stuff? first things first!
I still like my pentax k1000 better, maybe I do not understand something
Full frame? 35mm.

so many words and so little usable information :(
So Vadim, what exactly did I miss? What would you have liked or wanted to hear about?
Today, we have many children & beginners think they know about camera/photography. Many are down right rude.
"its filmm.....mmm...its leica errrrr ehhh ehh"
