Smant constantly jumping to start a wavedash and then waiting until he *hits the ground* to actually perform the dash and just does a hyper instead is amazing.
yeah scrolled down to check the comments for that lol
when?

He does it many times at the start of this room, including at this timestamp.
@@alansmithee419 thank you! I understand now
the neat thing is a lot of wave dashes in this map are viable with extended hyper dashes or super dashes

fun fact: originally you couldn't die after getting a crystal heart, but the developer went back and "fixed" it so you could.
I remember reading that time ago on Twitter. Ngl that's incredibly cruel for chapters like 6B or 8C, but also its sadistically funny in a way

@@ike8028 It's understandable, 6B is really hard on first playthrough. Probably the first level that made me suffer was eiter 3B or 4B (bc Oshiro and snowballs respectively)

It's not a bait, it's a genuine question. I played though the main game like four years ago and read it all. This time I came back to it to finish what I couldn't before (7c and Farewell) and I don't remember much from the story. How great is it?

I finally finished chapter 9 and it said I had 6969 deaths. It was fricking perfect.
I loved and watched your entire playthrough of Celeste on these vods. I could tell you were liking the game but also that you were concerned about how many people would enjoy this content and the thought of you completing it as fast as possible just to be done with it and be able to return to your more popular content crossed my mind. I hope you had your fun regardless and, for what it's worth, I don't play ANY of the games you stream regularly but I still enjoy your content a lot because of you yourself :)
1:40:29 YOU CAN JUST HOLD ON AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE BLOCK????
Holy shit the way I did it (let go then wallbounce off the side of the moving block into the blue switch) is waaaay harder than that
yep, you can also skip the coins and it's easier lol
Wdym it's way easier
Did it third try with that route
@@joaopeixoto6224 I didn't say it was way easier just easier, it's not like a difference of intended is impossible and this is free, but I also think when making this comment I neglected that the last dashes are actually kinda tight sorry
Hey, I did the same thing!
@@joaopeixoto6224It is way easier, also way more consistent
At 11:20 the "update" made that screen much easier. The spring block that drops and lands on the lower block... that lower block didn't used to exist. You had to do a fast fall to catch up with the falling block and hit the spring to bounce off it. If you weren't fast enough it drops off the screen.
Oooh si that's why my screen (and Smant's) were different from PointCrow's
Not gonna lie I was laughing a lot on the last screen at some points but not out of malice but because that's absolutely relatable
5:18:30 it's funny seeing him struggle on things I got right away and then one shooting things that took me a half hour.
I really really enjoy Celeste, but it desperately needs a joystick calibration function to let the player decide which joystick positions will go straight vs diagonal. I've had to use a joystick-to-keyboard remapper (antimicro) to get the correct directions reliably. Without that calibration, my death count skyrockets.
Honestly, that sounds like a skill issue.
@@Nalyd_VS Same joystick, same game, same computer, same player... but a 2X or higher difference in death count depending on whether joystick calibration is used or not. Like, I've often needed to hold a diagonal without walking, to prep for a hyperdash, while waiting for the right timing on a cycle. Without calibration, simply holding that is incredibly difficult... but with calibration, it's easy. I'm not a top-tier gamer though. My fastest speedrun time for Celeste barely under an hour.
However, SmallAnt is very skilled and played it on a platform with much better support and testing. And even he died like a thousand times to what he called "joystick moments" or "freaking diagonals". When even a world-class gamer has a problem like this, it tells me the game's joystick code could probably use some changes or calibration options, to more reliably do what the player intended.
@@ToyKeeper I really don't know what to tell ya dude, I play with a joystick on pc and there's no problems for me. Usually when I need to do an input it works as intended. I'm not a "pro" or whatever at celeste, I don't speedrun the game, I don't use advanced techniques to beat levels faster so I'm just speaking based on my own experience. Maybe if I was trying to speedrun the game or trying to do the harder levels where I'm required to do the more advanced techniques, then maybe I'd have more of a problem, but as of now, I haven't had any problems.
@@Nalyd_VS Yeah, if you're not doing speedrun strats, it probably won't be very noticeable. The calibration really seems to depend on the exact joystick used, too.
I tried measuring it one day... and I found that, with the game's native joystick support, there was like a 10-degree range where diagonals worked correctly on the controller I was using. When using an external calibration though, I got it to 45 degrees, which is the correct amount.
The game should be able to do this without external programs. Otherwise though, it's great. One of my favorite games ever.
@@ToyKeeper How exactly would you measure this kind of stuff, kinda curious how my controller compares. I'm not sure if using an xbox controller with windows helps with anything or not, just thought I would mention it.
Maybe it's because I didn't do chapter 9 all in a row (I look around a few months break between sessions), but I thought the last room- yes, the entire thing (almost)- was hella fun.
(Almost excluding the moon berry because trying to do that route is awful)
agreed...although honestly the route up to the moon berry isn't that bad in of itself except for that if you slip off before getting to the final bit of it, you have to redo THE ENTIRE FINAL SCREEN
@@megarotom1590 That's exactly the part that annoys me the most about that room.
@@Gamesmarts194 that's fair...though honestly the final screen isn't really hard just long so once you've got it down, it's mostly just an inconvenience and the route itself isn't that hard, I only died a few times myself.
I loved the moon berry, it makes you feel like a pro even though anyone who can do ch 9 could get it with enough time
42:00
Smant: “I made it through the tutorial section at least”

@@axelling_atk true, but having played the original megaman and Megaman X really helped me with the movement and bosses, but lots of people havent played games with such movement, plataforming, or challenges before, that's why most people struggle, because they dont have the expirience or the patience. it gives you the option to do upward boosts without needing a wall, which is useful in moon berry room for additional options, and is used in a lot of mods
also, you can do quite a lot of the same things with theo crystals, just a bit more difficult
Bro said ‘how many rooms are there’ and when chat responded he said no spoilers and got angry 💀
Where?
Smant ranging is like Princess Azula in ATLA;
chat member: you got this you're halfway there!
smant: by telling me I'm halfway there you have spoiled how far into the level I am and thus are not only backseating but also spoiling the game. for that you shall be muted.
3:02:25 It lines up really well and is one of the easiest levels in farewell if you just start with an extended super dash (not hyper dash)

@@tomas_iss7469 I've done all but the moon berry. I've also only gotten one golden strawberry aside from the flying one
honestly, I think it's worth doing all red berries, the moon berry, the flying golden in ch 1, and the c-side goldens. past that not really, but I also did 1a and b goldens, along with 2 a and b goldens. once you get done with those you should check out the mods on pc. just finished all of glyph excluding goldens personally.
@@Blazewolf000 All the C-side goldens and also 1b and 2b goldens...you have the patience of a saint.
@@megarotom1590 okay, but the C sides are so short that goldens take like at most 20 mins per, and only the final rooms are actually hard (7c and 8c take about 45 mins each rather than the 20) and 2b is just easy and fun so it doesn't even feel like a grind. 1b is not fun however, the rooms where the checkpoints are kind of run killers. Specifically the spring/duck moving platform.
