      A couple of years ago, I read an account of the Titanic sinking as told by one of the survivors and with just one or two sentences, it ended up being the most terrifying detail about the event I'd come across: The survivor was in one of the lifeboats in the middle of the ocean and though one would think the hundreds of people that had been screaming was the worst thing to hear, their voices quickly died out. Instead, they claimed that shortly after the ship finally vanished beneath the surface, _they could actually hear the ship implode from beneath them._
      I would have lost my mind. Knowing that it was a two-mile journey to where it came to rest doesn't help either. I do want to say the last time I mentioned the account there was somebody that spoke up and argued whether the physics of the story were accurate and that the ship or any part of it wouldn't have imploded. Thoughts, anyone?

    I don’t have thalassophobia, but I feel like it’s one of the more rational phobias to have, the fear of hopelessly floating over an endless void full of mysterious creatures is exactly what made Lovecraft’s work so popular lol. It wouldn’t be fun for anyone.

  • @The_Story_Of_Us
    @The_Story_Of_Us 4 месяца назад +377

    If I had to critique this artistically, I’d say you could make it scarier by showing less. Thalassophobia often is sort of encapsulated by the fear of the unknown and unseen, but when you see the monster it kinda takes the fear away a bit. So in that first bit instead of just appearing over the water almost in its entirety it could just be like 1 tentacle pops out and knocks the boat over and then when the guy falls into the water, you see like basically through the dark murky water almost just the blurry outline of it with the red eyes piercing through it.

    • @Ditpo
      @Ditpo 4 месяца назад +58

      this. it's always scarier when they show you less, unfortunately too many self-acclaimed horror writers don't seem to understand this. the fear of the unknown for example is what made the original backrooms genuinely morbid and horrifying before the fandom came in and fucked it with levels and "steps"

      Something similar to this that proves your point is JAWS. The shark animatronic in the original movie didn't work too well when underwater, so they only got a few manageable shots out of it. Steven Spielberg decided that the lack of actual shark footage was better for the film because it added suspense and enhanced the "fear of the unknown" to the audience.

    Inaccurate. The human mind can’t comprehend what Cthulhu looks like because any who’ve tried have gone insane. We’re just going off of interpretations. He could look like anything and we don’t know it

    I don't understand the motivation here. What does Cthulhu have to gain from killing this one guy? It's like squashing an ant, you don't get much out of it. Just feels like a being of it's power would have more important stuff going on I dunno.

    • @blastard8980
      @blastard8980 5 месяцев назад

      It's just a animation, of course it doesn't make sense cthulhu is even remotely here. Actually it could probably make more sense if the man wasn't eaten but just let see the monster, so he can convert and spread the word in the form of a cult. Anyways, it's a cool video.

    • @BakedBunn
      @BakedBunn 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@blastard8980 I'm simply making an observation based on the context of the animation. It's art and art tells a story. I'm giving my opinion on what the story is presenting. Just because it's "just an animation" doesn't mean it can't inspire thoughts like how you've just made your own interpretation. It is a good animation, never said otherwise, but the idea (within the context of the animation like I stated in my original post) is a bit silly, at least in my interpretation, and I wanted to express that.
      Not trying to argue, but thought I should give my two sense. Have a good day.

    Looking forward to more of these.
    No one's really done a good one of Zoth-Ommog, one of Cthulhu's sons.
    His tomb is also in R'lyeh, with a huge statue of himself that apparently can come to life & he can manifest through it.

    Imagine if you were actually alone out at sea and then THIS HAPPENED.
    I’m pretty sure if you didn’t go immediately INSANE, you would die of cardiac arrest from the sheer amount of FEAR and STRESS.
    Anyway, MAD PROPS to the animator. The pacing, atmosphere, and sense of tension/dread were all well-executed to the point that this ACTUALLY CREEPED ME TF OUT more than ANY modern horror movie I’ve seen.

    Very interesting video. I imagine Cthulhu being much bigger though, and the person in the raft would have gone insane from fear just being nearby cthulu. Even if he couldn't see it. At least that's how the lore goes

    . Also great video by the way I love Cthulhu 💗🎉🎉
