Went through the same process back in April when i bought mine. I took the mufflers off and put on a set of 5 inch muffler deletes. I had to cut my elbow pipes out the muffler cause they were stuck and didn't feel like paying Freightliner $190 a piece for two of them
It will be a good idea to crawl up under the truck and inspect the Y pipe cause it rust out in the split of the Y. Also you gonna spend a CRAP load of money at the dealer..go to eBay or 4 states truck or miami star truck parts or Raney's truck parts, way cheaper than the dealer. Me personally when I built my classic I snatched those mufflers off and put me a set of 7inch lincoln chrome stacks on mine. Good luck with your build.
Thats why I didn't want to but that stupid elbow because in the future I plan on buying straight stacks but that y pipe has to be replaced its like old plumbing

You have the money you should have got the new parts for the pipeline and new clamps because once you used the band clamps you can’t reuse them
I did use new clamps. I cut through the old ones with a grinder
