- Hello! Eh Up! And how ya Diddlin?! In this weeks video, we go exploring the magic of the Cromford canal and its Florence Nightingale connection. We have touched on the Cromford canal before, some time ago now, but BIG PHIL, The Dolph Of Derbyshire, was kean for us to explore some parts today, that I’d not been to before, including the surprising link to the famous nurse, Florence Nightingale. To be more accurate, a family member of hers. As per usual I hope you enjoy the video.
Cheers, Steve ❤️

That were fab Steve, so much of interest in this video. You could have probably got a couple of videos out of that.
So much lost but thankfully a fair bit still to see. Definitely an area on my list now
Thanks lads
Thank you very much Lord Sloan! They’ll hopefully be some interesting stuff ovah Christmas as well m’lad!
Great video fellas 👍😎
Cheers me ode china!
Yay! Great nosey! Thanks all!
Thank you very much as per usual Clair. I know you’ve been busy watching the older stuff! They’ll be more to come over Christmas.
@@LeiceExplore Hooray! Will look forward to it! 'As and when'; as they say. This episode sparked debate between my partner and I, I said that the Romans used aqueducts (and probably pre-Roman too!) he thought they were just for trains, boats, and horses... alas, I was right. We love these videos, and has really made us look at the world a little differently when we're out on our own nosies in Cornwall. We spent the day exploring Moorswater Viaduct last Sunday, complete novices compared to you all, but a lot of fun!
@@clairharwood I’m hoping to get some videos done in Cornwall next year, as we’d like to holiday down there. I haven’t been for a number of years, and have missed it.
@@LeiceExplore - Yay! There's some great places to explore here. Give us a shout when you pop down, it would be great to meet you and join you on a nosey!
Brilliant video really enjoyed it.
Thank you ever so much. It’s greatly appreciated.
Crackin video youth.
Cheers buddy! I’m very pleased you enjoyed it
Brilliant explore to both you and Steve. I loved following the video alongside my OS explorer map. Such a lot of super detail and local history content. Well done Steve
Thank you very much Chris. The maps are such a great resource.
Fab video 👍
Thank you very much!
Great video and very well presented.
Thank you, cheers mate
Another good one Steve ! Just wanted to say thanks for taking us along and sharing your adventures. I'm an American chap but very much an Anglophile. My friends say I'm as British as I can be, for an American :) (I'm building a model railway set in Somerset in the 1920s) and have been very lucky to visit the British Isles 3 times. Wish I could visit again, but until then, I enjoy your videos. Take care, Happy New year, Felix in Oregon
Thank you very much Felix. It’s fantastic that these videos, and what I’m trying to show in them, are being watched all around the world. Somerset is a really nice part of the world, I haven’t passed through the county for quite some time, but hopefully will be this year. Happy new year to you, and thank you for watching my videos.
What a pleasant surprise, right up my street (canal)👍
Thank you Anthony. This was very enjoyable this morning. Canals are the reason I do what I do. It was the first thing as a teenager that got my heart racing with this stuff. Thank you very much for watching mate.
You are a top bloke Steve, keep up the great work!
Thanks a lot, it’s much appreciated
Well you couldn't have packed more interest into a video, I love all things connected with railways and canals. That bridge from 1792 was just a sight to behold, good work Steve.
Cheers buddy, thank you so much for watching
Amazingly interesting Steve, keep up the good work ! 👍
Thanks a lot, I’m very pleased you enjoyed it

Hello mate. Belper is actually going to featured in a video at some point in the nearish future. Keep your eyes peeled!

Always fun to watch you out and about with the gang Steve 👍
Haha! No worries. Yeah I enjoyed making this one. Actually, I enjoy making all of them to be honest. The whole process. Having the Noseh, then editing it.
I wonder if the CRT woupd examine that barge for museum
Damn shears 😊.
It may be past being salvageable, but you never know
I Think she was an advocate for fresh water canals. I don't know if that would be working canals as well. She fought for drainage, fresh air, sunlight And cleanliness. I know here in the USA the nurses upon graduation from nursing school actually take an oath to her. As an Honor to uphold Florence's Ethics Created 18931. It is a modified version of the hypocritic oath. It's repeated at the pinning ceremony and I have seen information boards on the hospital walls here in Plattsburgh New York. She is considered the mother of modern day medicine and nursing. So I'm guessing that she was involved somewhat with canal system, just not sure if she would have horses pissing and shitting so close not to mention mention that the narrowboats of the day might not have even used a chamber pot. It was canals starting with Country house Gent the vlogger that actually changed my mental health. I had nothing to strive for, nothing to look forward to and found out the affordability for living my dream and it's achievable. This eventually got me immersed with having to learn about your heritage, industrial archeology and other inventors like Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Jessup and onto more modern people like Frank Whittle and his jet engine that I believe if he had backing on the beginning with his financial need and metalogists because of the heat created was more than likely sufficient at the time. If this was priority to the military and not thought of as impossible Germany would have had a even more to contend with than the spitfire and Lancaster. hat and how in the 1930s had a patent. Way too long was not given the means until a small amount of backing to create the first prototype in 1937. So approx 3 years of improvements with your natural resources they would have lost the air wars much quicker. I get uncomfortable if I meeta person from Germany because of my History education, and my brain processes it differently than it should. I am ranting, sorry. I'd go on and on.
Very interesting and informative, I’ll look into it
Ant just did a piece on this lol, There are no coincidences !
Ant?
Ah yes, I see what ya mean. I dunno, I ain’t seen it. Although, I know a lot of people have covered this area extensively, but not myself.
At about 26 28 mon, tgr ywo squares making a rectangle in tue wall of thay tunnel, i am okly guessing but maybe it was a chute for material on top to be loaded into carts or whatever om the path or is it too low on the floor to load anything. What do you think?
I’ll watch the video back and have a look
I really need to edit my messages. I blurt out my thoughts and incorrect spelling sometimes whole words especially with auto correct makes it worse. Sorry.
